Hype Survivor Hype Survivor 29: Spy vs Spy - Day 19: End Game!

Start counting the days ladies and gentlemen, unless there's some protests I expect to start the Survivor 30: Big Brother sign up thread sometime around the beginning of September... be on the look out. I won't go into details but I'll simply say this....

1) If you're bored of the same old Survivor routine... this game's for you.

2) If you're a new player and want to be on level ground with the oldbies... this game's for you.

3) If you're a fan of the show Big Brother... this game's for you.

See you then.

Myself and Matt actually disagreed quite a bit when it came to the strategy aspect for the record. ;)

Haha, we disagreed on a lot and I think that's why we work so well together. :)

Seriously dude, for the first time in forever, for the next month I have no class, little work, and a ton of time to catch up with friends and sleep. I'll be around for a bit. Gotta HYPE!

I'm more interested to hear your opinion man.

Your co-host had no problems expressing his views throughout the entire game...but you were mostly silent.

If your name is Matt... this game's for you.

If you're name is not Matt, and you are willing to provide personal favors to the hosts... and you're female... this game's for you.

Its good to see the right person win the game and im glad i had a hand in that. Stay true to your word...and dont piss off members of the jury. Thats good advice me thinks.

Well I kept my council as I didn't want to seem like I was pushing in any direction as I was not favouring anyone to win.

My issue with SF's strategy was not in the method of it, it was in the set up of it and the final plays.

To me if you are gonna play the "screw em all" method you need to be either staggeringly popular or you need to get allies in that last 5 that are the types that are laid back about the game and things in general.

I know you and Powder fairly well and you are about the last 2 I'd choose to screw over, especially right before the jury where I know the recriminations will populate post after post of the day threads.

So the choices of "dupes" was a poor one IMO and then when it came down to the final two screws I again felt the moves were bad ones, Ahura had not been on for days so to sour you early for an inactive player made no sense to me, had he won the next challenge and then you lost the vote out to Powder and Kal I feel you'd have been less angry.

Then the final choice, this for me is where I think for all the names he has been called SF's biggest failing was suddenly getting sentimental, he took his buddy to the final which meant betraying Powder, now if I have my read of the two guys right I think Kal would much sooner forgive the play than Powder would, and since both Powder and SF had been allies to vote you out before final 3 your vote would then become up for grabs IMO.

So where as he lost yours and Powder's vote with his plays, if he'd made the moves I suggest above he may well have had yours and Kal's vote on the jury and that would have made it 3-3.

* Note, not saying you were just taken b/c you and SF are friends Kal, but looking at it coldly SF had made two indentical promises and strategically I think breaking the one to you would have given him a better chance to win.

Haha, that's the truth. I thought a few times after that vote out, that you were going to resign from the game. I'm glad you didn't though, we made a good team.

i may have wanted to at times but I'd never quit in a game unless something crazy in my real life happened.
the Intersect Alliance was great

Anyhoo, my thoughts on this game, as I promised:

First of all, congratulations to Kal. He is a worthy champion and played a hell of game. I bow to him.

I was privied to having inside knowledge on both Kal and SF's strategies. Both were actually really impressive.

I'll start with SF. You were brilliant, bro. You ran the game through and through. Your biggest flaw however, was one that I made many times, you didn't account for the emotional aspect of strategy. I warned you, back during your game, when you were plotting this out that Marx and POWdER may be bad choices for a big alliance due to their emotional nature. Unfortunately, I was right. :( It was the one flaw in an otherwise perfect plan. Last game, following the merge, my major allies (aside from CC who I knew would be in the final two with me) became Knowsbleed, NYS, and Kane. All of whom are not overly emotional or prone to taking things personally. I believe I even recommended NYS to you between games. I think if you tied yourself to someone like that, you'd be the winner right now. That said, damn. The way you ran this game is so f'n impressive. The silence throughout most of the game is evidence to that. You put down any potential threat to you and yours before they could become one. You were the puppet master throughout and you executed perfectly. Well done.

Kal on the otherhand, played a much different game. Marx should make no mistake about it. Kal was just as devious as SF. Kal simply did it, the way you originally intended, SF. I remember when you were planning this game, you said you intended to use POWdER as a shield for your more deceitful moves. Kal basically did that with you. He was a member of your alliance, yet while you were plotting, he was pandering. Kal, you've played a social game that is right up there with Bella and CC as one of the best. However, I should not sell your strategic prowess short. One move in particular, was brilliant. I won't say what it was, unless you give me the go ahead, but it involved a PM and I think it is the reason that you won. That one move was brilliant and changed the tide of the game.

I said last night that is the best final two I've seen in a long time. I stand by it. You two make such a good team, you are the yin to the other's yang. You both play amazing games on different wave levels, that when combined in an alliance make for a perfect pairing. You should both be congratulated.

In regards to backstabbing, I said all I have to say yesterday. People who complain about it come off as hypocrits, IMO. A certain player who shall remain nameless, for example, spent the past couple weeks attacking SF at every turn. Yet he benefited more than anyone from SF's moves. It was only when they were turned on him, that he found a distaste for them. It was a sickening display of hypocrisy, IMO.

That said, Jewhob hit the nail on the head. It is part of the game. If you can't deal with it, you ought not be playing. A few of the personal attacks on SF went way over the line because as Jewhob said, this is an internet game with no prize or personal stake. People shouldn't take it personally. POWdER, I applaud you for apologizing to SF. I said yesterday, that you're not quite in SF's league yet as far as champions in the making go (you'll get there though), but you certainly showed with that display that you are one of the classiest players.

Also, I apologize for bringing up your run in with judges, you are correct that you have gotten much better about that. I simply meant to use it as an example of how emotionally invested you become in these games. No disrespect was intended.

Now, on my closing note, I would like to thank Hunter for everything. Without him, this game would have been mediocre and boring. Hunter was the most amazing partner in crime that I could've asked for. :)

I hope everyone had fun. I'll see you guys as a player next game and a host in HYPE SURVIVOR 3000 (coming Summer 2011). :)

Thank you good sir.
I believe the PM you are referring to is the one I sent to Marx. It was the one I sent telling him that he was going to be voted out. I did it for two reasons. One, I really didn't want him to be blindsided. He was a very good ally and I thought I owed him that. Two, I knew that it would help me if I made it to final two. Marx isn't affraid to speak his mind and I counted on that. He can debate with the best of them, so who better to have fighting for you then him? I saw nothing but positive from just a simple PM. The only way it could have backfired was if he told SF and Powder that I told him. He said he wouldn't and I knew he was a man of his word. Plus, if I did make it to final two, I knew that would mean Powder would be upset as well. So I would have two strong voices on my side. I will say that I did not know it would get as out of hand as it did, but I'm glad to see that everything is cool now between them and SF.

Thank you for all of your kind words Matt. They do mean a lot to me.

Exactly. It's nothing personal in the game. I mean, I have been screwed hardcore by a few people, but there is NO ONE I wouldn't ally with again. I mean, CC and I def have had bad moments in the game, but I'd be the first to openly say if we had an arrangement I felt would work for us, I'd ally with her again.

haha thanks, care to play some scrabble? :halo:

i may have wanted to at times but I'd never quit in a game unless something crazy in my real life happened.

Next time we'll do it in an even more devious way so they never see it coming. :woot:

That is indeed the PM I refer too. It showed incredibly strategic foresight and a great understading of the social game. Despite being a small gesture, it was, IMO, the play of the game.

Did you unleash the wrath of Marx with that PM? Absolutely. :cwink:

Spider-Fan knew not to cross me...but he did it anyway. That being said, I still honestly do not see anything devious in your sending that PM. We were allies from day one and I sincerely appreciated that gesture.

SF and I will be just fine. My heated words were never meant to be personal...they were attacks within the scope of the game.

Unleash the Marx! Lol!

Like I said before, being blindsided sucks. It has happened to me several times and I hate it. If I could prevent it from happening to someone I am allied with, I will always give them a heads up.

I didn't comment on your strategy KAL as my theory on it did not seem to be correct, but reading what you just wrote about the PM to Marx makes me think I might have been right. :cwink:

I agree with this criticism of my strategy 100%, and I knew I was making the bad strategy move in picking Kal. But, when we got to final 4 and Kal's number was potentially coming up and I knew it, I realized that I didn't want to screw him over. I think Kal more than likely would have voted for me, but I didn't pick Kal in an effort to make my chances at winning better. I did that to stay true to my best ally, even if it cost me the game. Like I said to Kal, I think in picking him, I scored a personal victory for myself because I stayed true to him. If this had been me back when we played TNC, I may have betrayed Kal in this same situation. I was far harsher. But, when it came time for me to decide, winning wasn't the paramount thing on my mind. I've grown up a lot since my first finals appearance, and I think this was a sign I have matured. At least, I like to think so :)

Kal is a deserving winner, and I have no issue losing to him

Besides, I'll be back here eventually...mark my words :cwink:

That brings back very bad memories...I was a jerk back in my Survivor youth :csad:

Hah! I've always liked the idea of naming alliances. I don't know why I've never done it.

I think at the end of the day SF your actions kinda went against all of the things you were accused of, b/c if you'd made the cold play your chances doubled, yet you made a play that you felt had integrity and thus screwed yourself....of course Kip would just say you were too soft. ;)

No doubt about that, he played for me the best all round game and that is why he won, and why, no offense, I thought he deserved the strategy trophy.

Oh I am sure of it. :D

Congratulations KAL. I figured you and CC would one day rise up from our ranks and use the power of the Matrix to light.... wait...wrong speech. I always knew you guys would win eventually. I didn't really follow this Survivor, but if you played half as hard as you played in the one you were with me, then I know you were deserving of this win.

SF. What can I say, always a bridesmaid never a bride. 2 runner ups is almost like kissing your cousin. I mean sure, she's hot but it's not as good as with someone who you aren't related with.

My advice to you is to take a Survivor or 2 off and hone your skills. I knew after you pm'd me about going into the Final 3 with Kal and POWder, and then after you chose Kal, you were done. Were you are too paranoid to trust anyone else with your destiny? Also, others knew you were throwing challenges towards the end. The trick is to look like you tried and not be so obvious.

But congrats on making it to the Finals twice. Very few people can say they have.

I think my alliance management as the game went on more than warranted my award, LOL! :cwink:

But, like I said before, Kal is more than deserving of this win, and though picking did likely cost me the game, I would have made this same move knowing the ultimate outcome. Kal became a target several times in the past due to being allied with me, so abandoning him now I think would have been wrong, though I definitely think he would have been a jury vote for me and completely changed the math.

Thanks Optimus Erz. I actually learned a lot in that game with you. Thanks for the kind words.

Congrats on the victory Kal!
Thanks Squirrel.
