Hype-Time Achievement!

I thought it was always an "unspoken rule" that it go to an active SHH member. The only inactive obviously being the banned award. Although I do see the reasoning behind a "committee" to award not as popular members. Or maybe a new achievement award for posters like that.

Oh, I'm not sure. If that is the case, I nominate Erzengel and Immortalfire (Are we allowed to do two? If not, Immortalfire because Erzengel has enough votes to make the ballot).

It was my understanding, when I first suggested the committee to Marx, that it would eventually transition into the sole decider of this award. I think the committee has grown sufficiently. It now has several active Hypsters on it. A committee decision just makes sense. Some of the names being thrown out here in this thread (won't say who) have contributed nothing to the Hype outside of being solid posters. Which is fine for It Boy/Girl and Poster of the Year, but that isn't a historic contribution to this site so as to warrant this award. This award shouldn't be "Anoint your friends." It should be "Who made a real and tangible historic contribution to this site?"

I do agree it's hard not to have this particular award turn into a popularity contest but I will nominate Fire too. He hasn't changed since I started posting. I've voted for him for Moderator of the Year on multiple but it's hard to go up against Hunter, the Jimmy Johnson of SHH.

Last year we were only allowed one
The same rule probably applies this year

No there was 2 last year, Darthphere and Matt.

They won together, it was a tie in the ballot
You could nominate 1 in thread

I misunderstood you.

But there were 2 winners last year. It wasn't a tie. One was voted by posters. The other was decided by committee.

If you mean how many nominations are you allowed, I never found it to be a heavily enforced rule.

Matt and I winning together was something special.

On a side note, are there going to be two this year? Marx, I thought as the Hype-Time Achievement committee grew you were going to consider making this award a committee only award, as the committee is more likely to consider the "historic," contribution to the Hype, rather than popularity of the nominee.

I absolutely love the committee aspect of this award. It's one of the best ideas you've had. I really think it is best to continue on with two winners for right now. I would like to add more names to the winner's list before ever potentially eliminating the "people's winner". Truthfully, I think all of "the people's" nominees that have actually made the ballot have been very solid choices.

2011
Anubis
C. Lee
Dew K. Mosi

2012
Erzengel
Darthphere
Immortalfire

I was the people's choice in 2011?

I did not know that.

You were one of the nominees on the ballot.

Ohhhhhh.

Well, I was in good company at least.

Numbers-in-name members should be disqualified from these awards.

Just don't let it become the Hype's version of the Oscars :o

Y'all people have terrible ideas of who and what constitutes a Hype life time.

yep

It's not the time you've had, it's what you've done with it. I nominated Kane not because he's had a long tenure, but because he's become a pillar of the Hype community. Where would we get our gifs from? Where, I ask?

imgur and tumblr lol like he does

i've never understood why there'd even be a limit of one nomination. more nominees gets the discussion going, gets more people talking and might even help us remember someone or something worthy that we've forgotten. when it goes to the ballots, naturally the list could just be of those most nominated or whatever, but i've never adhered to the 1 nominee thing unless i could only think of one suitable

i do what i want! /loki
