Hype-Time Achievement!

:hrt:

I love ya, CC, but Solidus and I go back a ways. He's my Hype bro.

Y'all people have terrible ideas of who and what constitutes a Hype life time.

I feel bad for 'Fire…he has an awesome avvy, he's been here since time immemorial…you deserve this one, buddy

ImmortalFire should take it this year. 2001 and still active? Hell ya. Erz can have it next year haha

Hey, I've always wondered…what in the hell is the language in your sig? I can't ever frickin' find it anywhere :lmao:

It's not the time you've had, it's what you've done with it. I nominated Kane not because he's had a long tenure, but because he's become a pillar of the Hype community. Where would we get our gifs from? Where, I ask?

The Easter Bunny.

Farsi
Words of a poet
Indeed.

It means,

So much strife have I been inflicted in these thirty years, (the length it took him to write the book)
I've quickened life to the "Mute" with Farsi / I've returned the state of "Ajam" to Parsi (Ajam was a derogatory term meaning "Mute" and Parsi/Farsi is the language and people of Persia)
I will never die, as I have been made alive (Either the culture/language or even the author hath been made immortal through the writing of this book)
Az I have re-planted the seeds of our culture.

Essentially, when the Arabs made their way across the world, they did the same thing as the Europeans. Forced their language, culture and religion on those in the land they are occupying, often times using deceitful politics to do so, and then gained control, attempting to completely wipe a culture from the country. Persians were threatened with having their tongues removed if they spoke Farsi, so instead they decided to not speak at all in public (refusing to speak Arabic) and thus were called "Ajam" or "Mute". This was used as a derogatory term and went on to mean "non-Arab" in modern Arabic.

However, the Persians had a way with Poetry that the Arabs admired, and were permitted to write. Ferdowsi (one of the most acclaimed Poets), said that he could only write in Farsi, and was given permission to do so.

He spent thirty years recounting Persian mythology and history in verse and completed an Epic with such symbolic potency that it puts Homer's work to shame. (There's actually a really cool story about his son while he wrote the book and another one about the king which he presented it to, but that's irrelevant to my signature.)

So once the book was developed, more and more Persian poets were commissioned, and the "Ajam" would recite poetry as a means of communication (Poetry was the only time Farsi was allowed), resulting in the survival of our language and culture and a very poetic language (and a whole LOT of Persian Proverb).
Actually I heard the same thing last year. :(
At least you get considered.
:whatever:

How do you think I feel when people call you the #1 Star Wars fan on here? Clearly you come 2nd place. :oldrazz:

Ahh, I see. Now I know why Google couldn't translate it. It wasn't in its original Arabic :hehe:

That's cool

Second, though Erz should also get one.

I give this speech every year and I shall give it again:

Hypetime Achievement should not be whoever is popular at the time. That is why we have It Boy and Poster of the Year. It should be someone who has left a lasting impact on the Hype. Whose presence can be felt throughout the Hype's long lifetime.

Other possibilities, aside from Erz and Immortalfire are KPB, Toven, Brodie, and Bakerboy. I wasn't a fan of Toven or Brodie, but it is undeniable that they played a role in shaping this site's culture for many years. And that is the type of person who deserves the award. Not the person who is currently trendy.

On a side note, are there going to be two this year? Marx, I thought as the Hype-Time Achievement committee grew you were going to consider making this award a committee only award, as the committee is more likely to consider the "historic," contribution to the Hype, rather than popularity of the nominee.

I thought it was always an "unspoken rule" that it go to an active SHH member. The only inactive obviously being the banned award. Although I do see the reasoning behind a "committee" to award not as popular members and maybe a new achievement award for posters that have been banned or just no longer post.
