Hype TV Club does Game of Thrones in February!

back to season 1.

i don't know how close the ages compare to the books, but i imagine quite a few are aged up.
Viserys and Dany were siblings, she being late teens, he about the same, early 20's at the most i'm guessing. it's said they're older brother is the reason Ned's sister is dead, and that Robert was supposed to marry her. cersei said they've been married for 17 years. the targaryen kids were exiled cuz of this happening right? so i feel like i have the time frame all out of whack. their older brother must have been a lot older than them, or this was changed for the show?
i remembered it cuz the old old man at the Wall said the Mad King was his brother or his son (i forget) which, and wouldn't that make Dany his granddaughter? So she and him are the last of the Targaryens as far as i know.

CC is so confused!

Honestly, I hated [blackout]Ramsay[/blackout] just because I find him gross AND I find his scenes painfully boring. I REALLY don't care about [blackout]the Boltons[/blackout] at all.

My pleasure! So that makes Kane and Maximus the other den mothers, right?

Oh, and #teamDragonstone all the way.

But Iwan Rheon is so hot on Vicious! :oldrazz:

Yeah, they've aged all of the younger characters up by about 2-3 years. Jon Snow's supposed to be 14 at the beginning of the books, lol. And Dany's somewhere around there at the start, too. But I think aside from the practical reasons for doing it (the restrictions on filming with minors), it's a really good change, considering especially what Dany goes through in S1.

That said, the Targaryen kids were indeed very far apart in age. Viserys and Dany were just small children when they were exiled, and their older brother, Prince Rhaegar was, well, old enough to be married with two kids when he ran off with Lyanna Stark and sparked Robert's rebellion. But you are correct in that their father, Aerys "The Mad King," was related to Maester Aemon, the old man at the Wall. But Aemon was like his great uncle or someone like that. He refused the Iron Throne and his brother took it instead, but his brother was like 2 kings before the Mad King. But yes, he and Dany are the last known living Targaryens at this time.

FYI, there's a very popular and probably accurate fan theory that Rhaegar did not in fact "kidnap" Lyanna Stark (as Robert believed), but that they actually fell in love and ran away together. And that Jon Snow is their son, not Ned's.

^ i was thinking that Jon might be Lyanna's myself. i don't know if they ever say how she died, but i was thinking maybe complications with birth

it's hard to believe that Ned being known as such a noble guy is so notably known to have a bastard son.

Yeah, they've been vague with the details of that event thus far, but we know that Ned's the one who found her dying in a tower after a battle, and that her last words as mentioned in the first book were, "Promise me, Ned..." So of course the prevailing theory is that she died after giving birth like you said, and made Ned promise to keep Jon a secret and safe from Robert's wrath should he ever find out what really happened.

ok just finished episode 1 of season 2.

the only time i ever really liked Cersei was when she slapped Joffrey. Robb Stark seems to be growing up to be a decent Ned Jr. The dude marrying his daughters jealous of Snow was kinda funny, but he's creepy for marrying his daughters. so he has daughters who are his daughters, and kids that are his daughters and children, and maybe grandchildren. oy vey. like Snow and Samwell, i too am wondering what happened to his sons.

Dany is having a rough go at it for sure. and i'm glad Baelish got a little bit of what he's dude. shady mofo lol. and i don't like how they're taking out robert's children. that was kinda sad in a i can't believe the length's they will go way

Oh **** I forgot to ask, JP [BLACKOUT]what did you think of the Red Wedding and Snow/Ygritte?[/BLACKOUT]

i love jamie... then I remember he pushed a child out of a window. then i hate him...

but then i love him again cause hes awesome... **** bran and his legs.

The former I saw coming. Not cause I read spoilers, but because when I watched the very first episode I recognized certain actors from other tv shows that came out recently so I just did the math... So I had been preparing myself.

The latter I think are cute af. :atp:

Magic legs Lt Dan.

sorry he just looks too much like John Oliver to take seriously

Ramsey. As I mistakenly said to Kane above, Joffrey didn't do much of anything in S3 that stood out as being awful.

Though I don't even hate Ramsey! Theon deserved all of that.
Really? The guy tryig to ear his dad's respect or love or whatever and made a lot of mistakes doing it deserved it? I accept Theon ****ed up, I do not accept he deserve the fate he's got.

Started s4 btw.

Magic legs Lt Dan.

Lt Dan, I got you some [BLACKOUT]Jojenpaste[/BLACKOUT]

@Sabretooth: What's funny is (Season 4 Spoilers) [BLACKOUT]Ramsay and Theon are both trying to earn their respective fathers' respect.[/BLACKOUT]

Ramsay's
just a sadistic asshat though. lol Not a fan of him.

I felt a little unsettled by the
Red Wedding

well i'm 2 episodes in now...

Tyrion is still a-ok to me, as is Arya and Gendry. i hate so many of these people lol why do i keep watching this?

Because you're waiting for them to die horribly.

I don't think [BLACKOUT] Theon [/BLACKOUT] deserved all that ****, for all his faults he was never maliciously evil and tried to keep things peaceful even as he continuously ****ed up.

Lt Dan, I got you some [BLACKOUT]Jojenpaste[/BLACKOUT]

I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is, Meera.

He ****ed up PRETTY ROYALLY and continually. I don't really have an ounce of pity when I watch those scenes.

But then again, as I've said since I started watching this show, 90% of the characters are a-holes, so I don't see how I can feel bad when one a-hole does something awful to another a-hole. lol

He flew too close to the sun. I did feel pity for him every now and then, but I'm always reminded how he **** things up.

He did, he did **** up big time, but he was always conflicted whenever he made those decisions and I think he was genuinely remorseful about it too. But then, his life was pretty ****ed from a young age, what with his biological father being a warmongering prick, his older brothers all getting killed, and his adoptive father treating him with cold restraint, with them both knowing that one day he might have to take the kid's head off.

I think it's very easy to see where he ****ed and why he ****ed up, and it's a common feeling to hate traitors, but I don't for a second think that he deserved that level of monstrous cruelty heaped upon him. It wasn't even justice, it was victimization at the hands of psychopath.

i'm avoiding yall's spoilers for now cuz i'm obviously not as far along as most.

i don't like theon's sister. i just don't like her face or something. i think it's cuz she reminds me of someone i used to know and not get along with lol
brianne of tarth is a tall lady. at first i thought it was camera or to make her appear taller but i googled and she's 6'3
cersei really does not like tyrion at all
sansa is really in a sucky situation. i would not want to be the first born girl in a family i don't think. but then again the leftovers might be worse haha

edit: JP's favorite just entered this episode :o she might have the best eyebrows in all the kingdoms haha

Exactly, it wasnt like Joffrey where he was a sadistic psycho brat. Theon's life was sorta already various levels of screwed.

And then [BLACKOUT]there was that groping his sister thing.[/BLACKOUT]

Theon [blackout]killed two innocent little boys in cold blood on his quest to "prove himself." He deserved a great deal of torture for that, imo. The Starks treated him far better than they had to, so it's not like he had the worst life imaginable before going "home." He wasn't dealt a terrible hand compared to many in that world.[/blackout]
