Tornado

One of the scariest moments of my life. Sounded like a train was about to come through my house. You could hear the trees just breaking in half and debris hitting the house. When my family got down stairs, the power went out. When we got to the cellar door, it looked like a strobe light was going off outside because the of the tornado hitting the power lines. Here are a few photos of the aftermath.

WOW!!! It sucks to have to go through that kind of ordeal.

Holy mackrel! I'm glad you made it! What part of the country do you live in?

I live in North Central Pennsylvania. Never thought that we would get one here since there's so many hills. The National Weather Service came in and confirmed that an EF1 Tornado ripped through our town. I'm so glad that no one was hurt. Could have been a lot worse since this happend at 1:45 in the morning.

That's to early for a tornado.

Wow, yeah. Late nite storms are the worst. And it's so weird, too, that in PA you got hit by a tornado, especially at nite! Well, I truly am glad you're ok. Here in the midwest, it can get pretty rough, so I know what you must be feeling. Again, glad you and your fam are ok.

I'm glad you & your family made it. Things can be replaced, lives cannot.

Thanks. I can't imagine every year going through something like this like you do in the midwest. I also can't imagine what Joplin is going through right now.

Thanks, Duke.

In 5th grade I expierianced a tornado. It was scary as hell.

The storms have been really bad this year. Glad that everyone is ok.

Indeed. Last week we had about 4 rotations in my town and a few touchdowns just outside of it. Was crazy. 1st time I've had to go to the basement in years. Our town site in a dip so alot of the tornadoes pass right over us but touchdown just outside the city limits.

As long as I've lived in PA we've never had tornadoes, this year, I've seen 2.
Glad you're okay, this weather needs to stop :down

What town are you in? I'm near Allentown. Haven't experienced a tornado yet.

Glad to hear you are ok. I've been lucky as several tornadic storms have passed by my area, and generally never touch down here. We've had several funnels this year alone though, the storms coming through have been really bad this year. I cannot imagine how scared I would be in that situation. Was your home damaged?

I'm in the same situation, DreamMaster. I live in northeast Kansas, and am pretty much desensitized to sirens going off at this point (though that's partially because they get a test run every week).

Glad you're okay. We usually have smaller tornadoes out here... They seem to typically touch down near my apartment, but they never actually come through my area. Usually a couple blocks away or so. I've still yet to actually see a tornado in my life, tho.

I can just imagine how scared you were. I am really glad you are ok. Storms now are so scary. I hear hurricanes will also be awful this year.

Not too bad. We had a few of our shingles blow off the roof.

I'm in a little town called Knoxville. Around three weeks ago the town of Elkland(which is about 6 miles from my town) had a small wet microburst. That's when very localized column of sinking air, producing damaging divergent and straight line winds at the surface that are similar to, but distinguishable from, tornadoes, which generally have convergent damage. Only one house was damaged in that. Also last Thursday, the people that I work with watched a funnel cloud pass south of us. Here's a few more photos of the tornado damage that went through my town.

This photo is the roof of the town's community center.

Experienced my first one little over a month ago. I found I was more freaked out the next day than when I heard it flying over my roof.

the fact that you didn't run outside and take pictures of the tornado is a great disappointment to me. I hope you have more courage and journalistic integrity the next time.
