"Shin Megami Tensei": what was once purely an obscure cult JRPG series with hardly any English game is slowly becoming one of the most popular word of mouth RPG franchises in gaming and for good reason. Be it the main SMT series of dungeon crawling and demon fusing or the Persona offshoots where social links and making the daily grind addictive are key, the SMT series has something for everyone. Originally more of a Playstation exclusive here in the states, the series has now found a home on Nintendo's 3DS with upcoming releases like "Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers" and the long awaited "Shin Megami Tensei IV" on the way. It's not as big as your Final Fantasy or your Pokemon but it deserves to be.

Are there any fans of this dark, creative, addictive JRPG series on the forum? Let's discuss!

I don't know if I would consider myself fan, but I'm eagerly awaiting Persona 5 and SMT IV.

Hah! Why would you be awaiting them if you're not a fan? Have you played any other titles in the series?

I've played Persona 3 and 4, and I'm just very curious to see what all the fuss is about with SMT proper.

I'm a bad Shin Megami Tensei Fan. I really enjoyed every single game I played on the PS2, Nocturne, Persona and that future game where we transformed into monsters I think. But I never actually managed to finish a single game. I really love them, but at some point, I always get sick of the grinding, then I stop midway and it takes months, heck years, before I can get back to them.

I feel your pain. I never finished Digital Devil Saga (the futurisitc one you mentioned) either. But finishing one of, say, the Persona games is WAY worth it and very satisfying in my opinion. I've beaten Persona 2 (the first game of it. P2 is split into two games), Persona 3, and Persona 4. All fantastic RPGs connected by similar themes and familiar demons/powers.

Today the latest enhanced English SMT release (of a game previously released in 1997) is Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers for 3DS. I can't wait to play it. :)
