You read that right, boys and girls. CineTel Films have picked up the rights to the controversial 1978 rape-revenge film I Spit On Your Grave from the original's writer-director Meir Zarchi.

Initially titled Day of the Woman, Zarchi's film starred Camille Keaton as a young woman who heads to a remote cabin to write her first novel. Four hicks come a-callin' and soon they rape her, beat her and leave her for dead. Later she seeks revenge on every one of her sick suitors.

According to Variety, the update will be produced by CineTel prexy-CEO Paul Hertzberg and Lisa Hansen, with Jeff Klein, Alan Ostroff, Gary Needle and Zarchi as exec producers. A theatrical release is in the cards.

"After seeing what was done with an R rating on films like Saw and Hostel, we think we can modernize this story, be competitive with what this marketplace expects and not have to aim for an NC-17 or X rating," Hertzberg tells the trade.

Pitches from writers are now being taken.

If there ia a thread about this merge it then.

I don't know if this can be made without going to NC-17, but they might tone it way down for an R so they can make more money.

Well i nthe interview thing it says they should have no trouble with a R due to such movies at Saw and hostel.

if they don't show boobies, i'm not watching it.

I highly doubt the rape scenes will be as graphic as the 1978 film. That is definitely the one aspect that's going to get changed. The reason that film was so controversial and disturbing was because how real it felt. I doubt we'll get that with the remake.

Wel lthere was that one scene in the hills have eyes remake that disturbed enough people to leave the theater before.

That scene was tamed compared to I Spit on Your Grave's scenes. But if that scene in the Hills Have Eyes can get people to leave, then I guess a dumbed down version of the film can easily disturb people. I'm still not thrilled with a remake.

I've never seen this movie but yeah it was kind as bad as some people made it out to be.

Its not like they actually showed penetration did they?

exactly. if they don't go as hard or extreme as the original, then there's no point in remaking it.

If you're talking about Hills, then no. No penetration is shown. And the scene has a lot of cut aways and really doesn't show much. I don't understand why people were leaving the theaters over it.

No i was talking about the I spit movie.

I liked the original. I know they're going to water it down.

This really is ridiculous. Are there any 70's slasher films that they're NOT remaking?

I think they should take it one step further remake EVERY movie made in the 70's, not just horror films. I'd love to see the Blaxplotation genre make a comeback. I know we had a (lousy) Shaft remake but they need to remake Dolemite. THAT would be something I'd pay to see, even if it totally sucked.

William Lustig's Maniac. But I'm sure they will at some point.

Even Suspiria is being remade. and also I just saw that Night of the Demons is being remade. It's got Shannon Elizabeth in it. I'll be in line right away.

Hollywood's barrel of ideas is officially empty.

Maniac was a good one. I knew a few guys who had a band and they used the poster art for the albume cover down here and had a lot of song on it that dealt with killing people in Maniac fashion. It was awesome.

It's not really a slasher film though. In fact, i think she only killed one of them with a blade (and what a kill THAT was, lol. Still makes me wince just thinking about it :wow: )...

It's an explortation/revenge flick I would say. She does kill I think two people, and leaves the others to suffer. But it's more about what they do to the girl in the first place and her living to seek a twisted revenge. I didn't much care for it the first go around, but it's just one of those 'Really? Watch this!' type films.

Heh, I don't even remember makin this thread. lol.

I saw the thread and i saw it was me and i'm like huh?:o

Why remake this thing? It has no discernable market-value outside of a small cadre of gore-hounds, so why not do something similar (albeit original) with a slightly different backdrop? Is this the next phase of horror: Small-town rape revenge tales? Yeesh.
