    Happy Independence Day, Guest!

Identifying a geek/nerd

Having more than a passing interest in comic books automatically qualifies a person for geekdom. There are other ways to qualify but this one is always near the top of the list.

what are the others?

Having an strong interest in Sci-Fi and/or fantasy. Having a strong interest in mathematics, computer programming and/or science. Being shy around the opposite sex. Being uncoordinated. Having the "Millhouse" look ,as people have posted in this thread, also helps.

See in some circles calling yourself a nerd/geek is quite trendy and cool. It's pathetic.

An easy way to spot these bull**** *******s is their clothes first of all. Do they have a silver surfer t-shirt but a very trendy haircut that is either gelled to perfection or flops about in front of their eyes? Chances are they've never read a Silver Surfer comic in their lifes.

Do they have emo hair and bull**** thick rimmed glasses and skinny jeans? Not a nerd or geek, just emo.

Another easy spotter is how quickly they mention they are a geek or nerd. First two minutes of meeting them? **** them, they're a fake *******.

The same thing applies with bull**** trendy rock people. I once met an obese girl at a party who within the first 5 minutes of meeting her and talking to her, she proclaimed "I am a genuine rock chick", and insisted she is "real", and told me she has tattoes and offered to show me. She was ugly in both appearance and personality.

I'm a little confused here, possibly because I have very little musical knowledge. If she's into the "rock" scene, doesn't that make her a "rock chick"?

soo ur basically saying everyone who doesent fit into your personal veiws of a stereotype is a fake??

i am a huge anime fan, i love rock music, i wear thick rimmed glasses, i own skinny jeans (7 pairs), my hair flops around in front of my face, i love science, i have Naruto t-shirts,and last but not least ive been called a geek n say "yer im proud"

obese doesnt make people ugly, and trying to make convo with people who are quick to judge is difficult.

does this make me a fake? and no im not an emo

I still don't get it. Doesn't being ugly automatically exclude her from being a "rock chick"? Is it the fact that she spoke openly about it?

i agree with you, she was trying to tell the guy what she was interested.. is that such a crime?

She was trying too hard. Yeah, she may very well really genuinely be into rock music, whatever, but why has she got to go around proclaiming it like it's a big deal to people she meets?

From his description, I fail to see how she's somehow phony. We don't all fit perfect stereotypes. I don't fit the geek stereotype in many ways, but I'm 100% geek underneath.

I hate skinny jeans. Man up.

I think you guys are misunderstanding me. I'm not saying you have to look like a stereotype to be the real thing.

I'm admitting that I don't understand. If someone came up to me and felt compelled to tell me about their interest right off the bat, I would think that's something that is really important to them.

You people are so weird. A person keeps telling you how genuine they are and how they're a real rock chick, in the first 5 minutes, and instead of thinking "god, this person is so obnoxious", you think "wow this person REALLY likes rock music and wants everyone to know!".

That's pretty much my reaction to people when I meet them for the first time. Obnoxious or not, it would take awhile for me to evaluate someone and say they are a phony.
Don't worry about trying to further explain it to me. It's not that important.

Unless you're a girl.

Men should not wear skinny jeans.

I don't exactly know what skinny jeans are but I have a feeling we agree on this one.

Geek, dweeb, or spazz?

AAAHHHHHHH!!!! They're breeding!!!!!!

Honestly, after reading some of the fanboy arguements I've seen here, it's obvious a LOT of the Hypesters are in fact geeks/nerds. But we love them anyway.

Anyone who posts here?

Interesting story: I've made several threads/posts here about covering up your geekiness and when I use to date, I'd dress to impress, have a nice car, and take her out. It was only after the woman was into me, that I would drop the cool facade and let my inner geek out.
