Idris Elba Wants a Bigger Role in the MCU let's recast him

Isn't the quintessential version of Cloak always been a teen? Idris is 45.

Cloak and Dagger are teen runaways. I can't see a version of a 40 something Cloak ever working.

I would be down for Bishop, despite enjoying Omar Sy. (Another actor criminally under used)

Marvel has not stuck to the age of their characters from comics to film. While Cloak and Dagger are teens in the comic books, there is no reason that Marvel couldn't deviate from it.

Except that they've already established the age of Cloak in the MCU, as a teenager. Or at least, it will be established next year when the TV show comes out.

I haven't been keeping up with the show's production. Do you have a link to that news?

Heimdall was a waste of Idris Elba's talents and he should've held out for a bigger and better role.

Idris would own that proud regal arrogance that Namor posses. He'd kill this role. I have no doubt in my mind.

Namor would be awesome. When Marvel first approached Michael B. Jordan, I thought they were approaching him for Namor.

I would love Elba in a more sizeable role, and he would totally rule as Kang the Conqueror, but I am afraid of thinking of him as a lead villain because of how they tend to be downplayed in these movies.

As a star/lead? Captain Britain? Union Jack?

It is a pity the Dark Tower failed everyone.

This is why he shouldn't have played Heimdall. It's a minor, tertiary character.

Namor I would prefer an asian actor, like Hyun Bin (Lee Byung-hun is getting old).

What about Norman Osborn for Elba? Eh? Anyone?

is Namor even Asian doh?

I see Cole Hauser, August Diehl, Liev Schreiber, Damian Lewis, Stanley Tucci or Vince Vaughn as Osborn but not in a Iron Man Jr. movie. They'd be wasted on that garbage with Tucci being the exception.

He's also a Mutant, no?...My knowledge is limited on Namor but from what I remember, His father was an American named Leon or Leonard McKenzie. Now I've never known or heard of an Asian with that name but I guess if they did, They could likely be biracial or adopted.

His mother is from Atlantis which is in the Atlantic Ocean and even though that could technically be anything, it'd make sense that they'd be some kind of ancient Latin/Native decent.

Namor could really be anything but I've never viewed him as Asian at all. Especially when saying things like "Imperius Rex!" hahahha! I always assumed his look is part of his mutation.

One last thing on Namor, I don't want to derail the thread... :woot:
His original appearance to me is a good enough reason for the first asian lead in the MCU, if we should get a movie with him sooner than later.
Besides, atlanteans are blue, it's not like we would expect an half blue actor for the part.
Elba is a great actor IMO but I don't see him as Namor.

I think this news really exposed to the fact that there's not that many prominent black superheroes in Marvel universe, especially when you have to exclude the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

There are also a truckload of white superheroes whose whiteness doesn't matter in terms of who they are, that could easily be cast colorblind if adapted

I say just keep him in this role and give him the mantle of Thor after Thor dies in infinity Wars.

That... could be really interesting. The way Heimdall is you could give him a heck of a backstory retroactively, throw in a little Balder, a little Beta Ray Bill, a little Jane Thor, and twist it into something pretty interesting, face off against Karnilla and more. I'd love to see that.

Them's the breaks unfortunately. Timing is everything. Elba wasn't a movie star then like he is now, otherwise he likely would have spoken up.

As far as A-list actors being cast, I think Marvel Studios should continue on the path of hiring method and character actors. Actors not afraid to make these movie adventures resonate on all levels.

As far as sticking to the ethnicities from comics to movies, Marvel Studios should be more versatile with the ethnicities of characters as the comics were introduced in a different time period in America's acceptance of diversity.

I don't think anyone knows what a 'method' actor is anymore, unless you go by the (Lee Strasburg) Method, where you are supposed to talk, eat and sleep, even wear the same soiled underwear as the character would for 24/7. Not always sympatico with what the great Stanislavski taught.

I want great actors with personality and imagination, whatever technique they use.

You don't hear it too much today, but I read somewhere that Jared Leto was method acting on the set of Suicide Squad, and was in Joker mode all during filming. A technique like that would work for shoots like Avengers 3 and 4 done back to back.
