How do you think it would affect the world? Bare in mind that it becomes more more costly than buying a subway ticket, and you can be beamed anywhere on the planet that has a teleport pad.

seems like those *******s from watchmen would ruin it for everybody

With that technology in place, it'll be just a matter of time until some genius creates a personal teleportation device. At the rate of technological evolution, wouldn't take too long for that to happen.

Once that happens, committing crime would be revolutionary. Beam into a vault, grab loot, beam out. Beam into a building, kill someone, beam out.

It wouldn't be legal due to that probably.

i don't think it'd be that simple. if i understand correctly (big chance i don't) teleportation would be kinda like in the fly where you go in one device and are beamed into another. you can't beam yourself from one device into the middle of a basketball court or anything and most likely there would be a record of who/what was teleported where and at what time...kinda like phone calls.

i have no doubt teleportation crimes would exist but i think it'd be kind of hard.

I quite agree with you. But like I said, once the technology is in place, it'll be just a matter of time until some genius creates a personal teleportation device, perhaps the size of a backpack, which would allow a person to be teleported to and from any location at all (though perhaps with a very limited range).

If we want to utilise science fiction as reference, Star Trek is another prime example of the usage of teleportation devices. In Star Trek, one does not require a device at the destination, only at the port of origin.

And in this day and age, even origin of telephone calls can easily be spoofed.

Not to mention that pre-paid cellphones can't be traced.

But once the problem of teleportation-related crime presents itself, I'm sure another genius would come up with an anti-teleportation security system. Perhaps a disruption field that envelopes a building to deter any unauthorised teleportations.

That being said, I bet warfare would change drastically, too. A whole new tactical chapter would have to be written.

And if one can teleport a person, can one also teleport an explosive?

Mind-boggling.

first we need to learn how to survive an acelleration of our particles to lightspeed first.... so I'm not gonna worry about teleportation about now

We'll no longer have any excuse to be late for work or school or a date.

Acceleration is only half of it. We also need to learn how to survive having our molecules taken apart, accelerated to point of destination and reassembled.

long distance relationships, moving, and vehicular transport would be a thing of the past... the tree huggers would be very happy about it.

If I remember correctly, a few years ago, they said that they could deconstruct the human body through a teleportation like device, but they don't yet know how to put it back together...

also you have to deal with the Heisenberg theory...

Someday...

I'm thinking that teleportation devices would be the next WMD's. Banned from all countries except 6 and noone would benefit from them like they were supposed to.

Well I don't think you could just tp wherever you wanted and commit crimes. There's be designated "recieving" locations for you to go to.

Teleportion is my ****in dream. I could smoke pot and talk tp all night!

that would be my thought... but eventually they would be commercialized.

Perhaps in the future, teleportation may not require the disassembly/reassembly of molecules. Perhaps they'd find a way to create a tear in the fabric of space between two geographical points for solid objects to pass through.
