If you've seen it, your reviews here

300 was one of the most boring drawn out movies I have ever seen. I swear to Christ it's a good thing I had 2 free passes from Best Buy or I would have asked for my money back. They could have taken all the cool battle scenes and made this into a 30 min movie and it would have been acceptable. Everything else about this movie I just didn't give a crap about. They didn't make you care about any of it. I actually kept looking at my gf's watch to see how much longer we had until it was over. I never do that.

Don't get me wrong I expected and loved the visual style, all the battles and gore. All that stuff was done pretty well. The slo-mo was overdone a little too much I think. It didn't add anything dramatic; it just slowed things down and was just drawn out too long at some points.

I didn't go into this expecting and wanting "crazy action". I go into a film expecting it to hold my interest for the length of it. I expect plot and character development. I expect to be drawn in to the world I'm being shown. I expect to care about the characters I'm watching. I expect characters that at least have some dynamics to their personalities and not be paper thin like in 300.

Making a movie with epic battle scenes is one thing. But you have to tie it all together in a way that keeps the viewers interested for the duration. I'll say this, Zack Snyder is no Peter Jackson. That's for damn sure.

The one good thing about going to see 300 was the new Spider-Man 3 trailer at the beginning which focused on Venom.

My prediction: 300 will easily be #1 this weekend and drop HUGE next weekend.

I think why this movie is so popular with the comic fans are because of howover the top this movie is. Just like the comic books. Remember the first X-men, I know a whole lot of people were upset at how sabertooth was portrayed. I mean in the marvel comic sabertooth was huge, and he was able to speak. Zack took those muscular superheroes from the comic and put them on the big screen. I loved that, those comic book heroes are sculpted and that's what we saw in 300. We also saw those nice the comics usually has. Hollywood directors who planned on making comic book turn movies, please take some notes.

Big fan of the movie.:up:

Although, when that guy riding the white horse cut off the Captain's son's head....where the hell did he go after that? lol

lmao, I was wondering that too, I thought when the Captain took off he was gonna have a one on one fight with the white horse guy, but he just completely dissapeared.

I'm about to leave to see it now. Hope it's good but I'm expecting more action than plot.

Didn't have as many battle scenes as I expected. Just when one scene got my adrenaline pumping, they slowed it down by showing stuff going on back home with his wife, or some dude loses his son in battle. I almost thought that guy was going to pick up his son's head and use it as a projectile against the Persians, but I guess that would have been WAY too over the top even for the Spartans.

Don't really have the time to do a full review, but this was a pretty gangsta ass movie (that means it was pretty dang good for the non-slang initiated ;)).

The over-stylization of the battles actually worked for me, and it brought a freshness to the usual swords-and-sandals battle sequences we get in most flicks like this.

I'll probably give it an 8/10 as of now. I was very satisfied.

Holy crap this movie was so friggin awesome! I think I actually liked it a little better than Sin City.

^ Peter Jackson is one of todays most overrated directors.

Not all movies are created equal, therefore they should not be viewed as such. And you also understand that 300 is not meant to be LORT? Being that 300 was a single comic while LORT was a lengthy book series? And yet, you hold both to the same filmmaking standards? That is like saying you didnt like Robocop because it didnt star Arnold:o The purpose of the movie was to entertain with "crazy action" that didn't meet your LORT standards of blurred shots of swords and feet:o

LOL!
That's all I see too when you watch LOTR.
His cinematography is horrible.

you want character development for a bunch of spartans? yer lucky you even got any wise cracks and jokes from them. seriously, do you think the actual spartans back then had any real personality? they were born n raised to be warriors and nothing else. im not trying to put down the spartans or the movie spartans, im just saying that yer looking in the wrong place for character development. the movie was awesome, spectacular, amazing, great and any other adjective that exists.

I say this in all honesty. Don't be a punk and assume I'm doing this out of spite for the filmmakers or whatever. I spent 10 dollars on this so I have a RIGHT to say what I have to say.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE.

It's a shallow cartoon more than a movie. You won't care what happens. You won't give a crap about the one spartan guy's keanu reeves lookalike son.

I walked out of it, I was so bored of all the repetative videogame violence. It's a dumb badly made movie with a few cool parts here and there. And that's my unbiased view of it.

Take it or leave it.

Wow, 300 times. How long did it take you to think up that gem? Come back and see me when Zack Snyder wins an Oscar for Best Director. Better yet, come back and see me when he's even nominated for Best Director.

Well said sir.

this is not trolling. He didn't like the movie. He has a right to say so, and insulting him is not required. He gave his reasons for not liking it and did not insult those who did like it. Anyone who turns this into a bashing of any posters who did not like will be given probation and anyone who bashes posters who did like it will get the same probation

I am loving this movie, I've already seen it twice. It wasn't the greatest of all time, but it was the greatest of this comic book genre. I am torn between these two scene. I am talking about these visually stunning scenes.
the scene where he is still a young boy and he comes back after defeating the wolf.as they crown him.You know ,when he stand and the gurads are kneeling in front of him as the snow fall. That was beautiful. The second is in the end as Leonidas stands in front of his remaing spartan made into a ball as xerxes approaches. That was bad ass, no fears, no feeling. That scene was incredible. I love what he did as he died.
That has one of my favorite lines of the film too when Leonidas gave Ephialtes teh biggest Spartan insult ever. "I hope you live forever". The look of pain on Ephialtes' face was great.

OK..........

I think the movie had a strong anime flavor to it. Blood spray and all

Second, the complaints (or call it whatever you want) about the movie being infused with homosexual undertones is bull. Okay, sure, you are watching 300 men fight in their underwear. But that does not make it homoerotic (many soliders once fought completely naked). Its a symbol of the "ultimate male", the ultimate warrior - they are so fearless and skilled in battle that they only need a helmet and shield.

Sparta was the first nation state to institute nude athletics and oiling there bodies as a way to enhance male beauty. The idea of the "ultimate male" is identified in kouros in ancient Greek art. Kouros has long been understood to have homoerotic and pederastic undertones which became prevalent again in the work of Michelangelo during the renaissance.

The two soliders who were buddy-buddy were not gay, there was no reason to think that. In every war movie, you ALWAYS have the two soliders who at first hate eachother, then throughout the war, they gain respect for one another and become friends, often being used for comic relief. Legolas and Gimili are perfect examples.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartan_pederasty

And the comments about the spears and swords being symbolic of sexual penetration is grasping at straws as well. There was so much "penetration" because thats how those weapons were designed for use - to stab a victim. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well let's see, did you notice that Queen Gorgo said the same thing to Theron when she stabs him that he said to her when he "stabbed" her? The sword and spear as phallus, and thus as an object of power, was a pretty heavy handed metaphor throughout.

I really don't get why this bothers the people who like the movie. Are people afraid of liking something that was homoerotic? Is it really that big a deal? Is it hard to think of strong alpha-males as having any remotely "gay" quality to them?

Dunno if anyone said this, but in the real Battle of Thermoplyae, the spartans all died, so thats a stupid reason for that guy to get mad for the death of Leonidas. Also, technically it wasnt a spoiler to say that.
