If you've seen it, your reviews here

It was...decent. The acting was very good and the cinematography (albeit most of it was done in a computer) was stunning. Visually it was a knock-out. And when it was in the battle sequences (save for the rather cheesy cornering elephants off cliffs, like in the comic book it is too absurd to believe) were brilliant and beautiful.

With that said, the story was much more moving in the comic book. Here the ridiculousness of it comes to screen. While that works in the favor of some films, like say Sin City, it hampers here. The beginning was most noticable of this with the elders and the prologue and the sex scene, etc. It weakened the film a bit. And while I thought Headley was stunning and gave some great gravitas to her character without being a cliche (even though Queen Gorgo is written as such) her parts seemed rather forced, what with the sleazy politican she had to kill and so forth.

When the movie was on the battlefield it was amazing but when it was off it was just okay. It makes for a fun movie, but for a movie where everyone dies at the end (And that IS NOT A SPOILER, read some history books, if you think so)....you are somewhat unconnected.

I liked it though, but while it is visually stunning, I wouldn't call it an amazing or groundbreaking film though.

HI GUYS, I JUST GOT BACK FROM SEEING 300, IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME, IT'S EXTREMELY GRAPHIC AND VIOLENT, DEFINATELY NOT FOR THE KIDDIES, IT WAS VISUALY STUNNING AND GROTESQUE, THE BATTLES WERE BRILIANT 10/10!!!    :D

I'm kind of torn. I've gotten past the stage where I thought I'd go to the movie simply to watch Gerard Butler's abs in action. The cinematography was both good and bad. The darkness of it felt a bit oppressive, and I got very sick of looking at the most hideous creatures ever created. It was like they reused the Yellow Bastard masks, gave them some warts, and pasted them on almost everyone considered a villain.

The story was so-so. The setting and characters seemed to take away from just how much was at stake here. We saw few regular people and little impact on what might happen to their society. Like many movies of this kind, the story took a back seat to the action.

I saw it less than 2 hours ago, and all I can remember is Gerry's beard, a quip or two, and the disgust I felt when I watched the women basically crawl over the... umm... ugly outcast.

It was interesting, a breakthrough in terms of technology, but beyond that, it wasn't impactful in any way to me.

Hey ,I just came back from catching the midnight showing of the movie, and it was great. People laughed and clapped. Towards the end when Leonidas died, one guy got up and left the movie. As he left he exclaimed "that's fuc*ed up". He left becuase he was angry that Leonidas had been killed. He wasn't displeased at the movie, just that I guess he kinda made a connection. He kinda felt it really was his king that had died. I am serious Iam not making this up. As for the ladies, this girl sat behind me . All she kept saying when Leonidas spoke was "damn, damn damn". I think this is a pretty good movie. All I have to say is for those who doesn't know much about the 300.You will get just as angry as the guy in my movie theater. By the way the theater I went too, they were showing 300 in two theater. Both were full and I had to get one of those upfront seats. Word of advice, if you are going to see this film make sure you get there early. So tomorrow make sure you buy your tickets early. I know the Imax theaters in NY,NY are sold out this whole weeked for this movie.Don't take my word for it, you can always check for yourself.Goodnight and good day.

GOT DAMMIT LET SOMEONE PHUCKING KNOW BEFORE THROW IN A SPOLER LIKE THAT. NOT COOL. NEXT TIME POST A SPOILER WARNING. Most haven't seen it yet and just wanted to get some positions on how the movie turned out, and not a learn a major spoiler without anytype of warning.

I never know anything about this flim or the history of it, just saw some tv spot and thought it look cool.
I heard the action doesnt start till a hour into the show. I didnt like sins city that much, Should I see this movie?
Please compare the violence of 300 to zatoichi and lady snowblind.

Goddamn, this movie was just simply amazing. Might sound familiar to other critiques, but the cinematography, sound, script, acting, action, everything about this movie was A-mazing.

Edit:

I disagree with some of the posters here. I think the cinematography was groundbreaking, picking up where Sin City left off with it's versatile use of the green screen and intensely realistic environment settings. While some of the environments were exaggerated, like the sea and rain, they still created an intense mood and setting for the upcoming scenes. I felt some of the dark tones of the movie were absolutely necessary to understand the brutality and relentlessness of the battle. The acting I have to say, was quite good. I mean, if you're going to expect oscar-winning acting in an ancient war movie based on cinematography and intense battle scenes, you're obviously ******ed. For what it was, the acting was good. The battle scenes were definitely groundbreaking, stomping mud holes in movies like Troy, Gladiator, Lord Of The Rings, etc.

GSFOR do you know that you can use spoiler tags? Why didn't a Moderator edit or delete it? Piss me off.

This was a good exercise in style over substance, I now think.

All I have to say to all the people whining about being told King Leonidas I dies. PLEASE be joking!! If your NOT I have one thing to say to you READ A DAMN HISTORY BOOK!!!! 300 is based on a battle during the Greco-Persians wars of 500-330 BC NOT from a figment of Frank Millers' Imagination!

Also know that Leonidas went there to die! Spartans where a VERY superstitous people back then. He went to the Delphi Oracle and was told Either a Spartan King falls or Sparta falls! He chose to be that king since Sparta had a Dual Monarchy system back them!

This is what annoys me about this movie! AS a person of Arcadian Hellenic decent I find it funny that one of the MOST studied battles of ALL Time is not so well known! Any military serviceman/woman, cadet, officer will tell you that Military branches through out the world study this battle to this day!

The movie was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G...Everything about this movie was beautiful....this has to be at least in my top 5 for all-time fav movies.....

And about the ppl complaining about not knowing Leonidas and the 300 Spartians die at the end if u watch the trailers in the movie u can see all the Spartens with arrows hitting them and them falling and u can see Leonidas with arrows in his chest right there tells u a lot and if u actually paid attention to history you should already know the outcome of the movie no matter how old u are....If im not mistaken isn't the battle of Thermopylae in the bible? not sure if it was another war or not but I remember reading about 300 Soldiers in a war but the outcome was different.....But overall It is not a spolier to know the outcome of the end

Alexander III or "The Great" is predicted about 500 years before he was born in the Bible not the battle.

That Movie Was One Of The Sickest, Baddest, Sweetest, Intense Movies I Have Ever Seen!!! Blood Was Everywhere!!! The Fighting Was Amazing!!! I Got Chills Like 5 Times And I Tensed Up During The Many Battle Scenes!!! This Is A Must See, Must See Movie!!!! I Cant Wait To See It Again!!

This is the best way I can think of this film: I wish Snyder would've kept the visuals of the graphic novel and some of the story elements, mixed it with more historical accuracy, add more politics, keep the exact same cast led by the bombastic Butler and partner Lena Headley, make the action more brutal with less slow-motion, and add another hour to it.

That would've been perfect.

As it stands, it's pretty good, not great and definitely not a masterpiece....

I agree on adding another hour. I could have sat there for 3 hours watching that movie!

I think the nudity could have been a bit more graphic. I mean, i would have liked to see a couple of nude oracles getting banged by those hooded disfigured guys up in the mountains. The oracle they showed wasn't all that hot looking to me; in either body or face.

very impressive. the best war movie of its kind ever made. truely stunning, and awesome. highly reccomended.

this is EXACTLY what i am talking about.

are you a homophobe or just overly religious? Cause that is one of the dumbest, shallowest statements you could make. Because the movie shows one ass and a sex scene that had less to offer than an episode of rome you call it "ABSOLUTE HOMOEROTIC" and "PORNOGRAPHIC"? Would you rather it been like the book and had penises in every frame?

I really dont understand that. Everyone in the theater I went to left going "HELL YEAH" and they cheered all through the movie! There was some giggling from these frat boys next to me in the flip flops and abercrombie gear at the King's butt shot. But that is just a testament to their own insecurities and issues with their sexuality.

It is one of the biggest dissappointments to be at a theater of 17 and up and hear giggles when there is a sex scene or nude body... are we still in the 5th grade????

Who said I had a problem with homosexuality or, for that matter, pornography? Hell, I thought it was ****ing hot! But if you didn't catch how hypersexualized the violence was in that movie... you are a eunuch. I called it homoerotic and pornographic, not because of an ass shot, but because the entire movie whether in the sack or on the battlefield was about the glory men penetrating things with their spears (look no further than Queen Gorgo penetrating the sleazy politician). I called it misogynistic because Miller changed the Pythia to the Ephors and made the Ephors ugly so that he could turn the oracle into some kind of rape victim.

Sandman since the movie is about war, what would you have them fight with. I mean back then all they had were spears and sword, as far as penetrating go, what would you have them do with spears and sword. I guess you wanted to see more kunfu fighting with those sword and spears. I guess If they had done that you would still say it was homoerotic, due to all the long stick banging. I guess there is a hidden path, that in the next few month you will find. I guess someone will be penetrating your fiery gate, or would you rather he flanked you from behind.

So can someone tell me about that scene described in many reviews in which leonidas kills like 15 guys in a row in one single long ass shot.

Was it that long and how was the choreography and style? I suppose he did chopped some heads?

After the charging army had been pushed back, the Spartans seperated from their grouping and fought one on one. Leonidas did kill like 15 in a row. It was all one shot/scene. Slow motion swings, then fast motion swings. Like a fast strike, then slow motion seeing the blood splatter. One by one. Knocking back some with his shield, then spinning and stabbing with his spear. The scene was most impressive and one of the best ones in the movie, IMO. It seemed to last 60-90 seconds and at the end, I just laughed because it was just so badass!
