If you've seen it, your reviews here

Are you seriously making that argument? So you're telling you dont like any movies that critics panned? I find that incredibly hard to believe.

I'm not saying that at all. You're the one that ridiculously said "you're in the minority". Which, number 1, isn't true. Unless you only live in messageboard land. And number 2, even if it was true, so what?

What does this have to do with what I asked you? And honestly, you're in the minority. The movie sales over 3 weeks dont lie. And so what if you're in the minority? Well I just find it curious that your opinions almost always land you in there, its like you revel in the fact that you're in the minority. I;m probably wrong, but thats how you come off.

And for the record, I never called the movie a masterpiece.

People do pay to see films they end up not liking, you know. The only way you could accurately judge overall public opinion of the film is to do a poll.

We're talking about a film here. It falls down alot to personal opinion. If there are ten guys out there who loved it for every one guy who was disappointed or worse, it doesn't mean the guys who loved it are in the right.

And this is a messageboard. One thing I've noticed about boards like this in general, is that alot of people don't have the maturity to debate rationally, and some are too young to have formed a solid opinion on many subject matters. I mean, you tell me - when I make a topic asking what should be done about AIDS in Africa, and about 4 guys come in going "NOTHING!! IDIOT! NOT OUR PROBLEM!!" - whos in the right?

You may not have called the film a masterpiece, but it sure looks like you've taken my dislike of the movie personally.

Personally, heck no. I'm a Star Wars fan dude, I would've killed myself by now if I took any hate personally. I just think its funny that a lot of you are judging the movie for what its not. I mean, the movie doesn't have much of a story, that much is obvious from the first trailer.

Actually the amount of money 300, did is reflective of people actually liking it and word of mouth. If 300 wasn't good, it would have probably had a drastic lag in sales by the 2nd week. The fact that it was barely 2nd on the 3rd week, shows that people liked it.

Want a Cookie?

Sorry you didn't enjoy it.

was this necessary? are you that defensive of this film? i mean with this being the review thread and everything....:whatever:

I couldn’t believe that Leonidas fell on his knees after being hit by two arrows. His warriors had taken more but they kept on fighting. He wasn’t even able to kill a single person in the last scene (as shown in the movie). He sure is more than that.

Still, I don’t mind watching him the whole day. So strong… so hot!

Why yes it was! See, that was clearly what i was trying to say.

I'm sorry, did a cookie hurt you in the past?

I recently watched it....and here's my random thoughts....

1. this movie definately got me fired up....mid-way through the movie, I wanted to run outside and start spearing people at random...

2. the battle scenes were sick...they made the 300 out to be a bunch of bad as$es and made you believe it on top of that....especially strategically...

3. one thing I didn't like is the similarity to sin city....not with the way the movie was filmed, but how one of the endings on sin city where there is an explosive in the cops head in the transaction for the girl.....

the whole idea was picking the right place to fight....an alleyway.....

same thing with 300...a narrow passage between 2 rocks or mountains...and forcing a dogfight trapping your opposition in a small area...

yadda-yadda...that's the only thing I didn't like...

You are aware that the Battle of Thermopolye was directly referenced in The Big Fat Kill? It pretty much inspired Frank to do the full 300 graphic novel.

u r coorect...most ppl have been bashing this film about ow in accurate it is...when in actuality many scolars and historians have said that the film is actually very accurate, i mean other than some of the obvious like the monsters and stuff....i have to find a link to that, i kno i read that somewhere...plus from what i kno from this battle personally, there are is plenty of truth, its just a great story, just to think that "few stood against many"

Well, I saw it last night. It has good and not-so-good.

THE GOOD

1. Visual effects were outstanding. Loved the various 'mutant' creatures (being a fan of mutants!)

2. Battle scenes were brilliant - it made me think Zack could do a great Wonder Woman movie if it began in ancient times showing the Amazons at war... The shot of a hail of arrows blotting out the sun was breathtaking, and had people gasping in the cinema.

3. Very enjoyable and watchable, terrific quality in the production designs and directing (if only it had a little more 'soul' in it). Didn't seem overlong but was pretty close to being too long.

THE NOT-SO-GOOD

1. The movie at times seemed like a visual feast but an emotional famine - not enough 'heart', too much of men yelling various war slogans and too much blood spurting and super-slow/super-quick photography. After a while, those things became meaningless because they were so over-used.

2. Poor dialogue - all testosterone-fuelled, chest-beating war slogans, very little 'real' dialogue at all. Even if this was Miller's original dialogue, it didn't work on film. Not enough quieter moments of human feeling.

3. Cornfield shots (and haunting female vocal music) reminded me too much of Gladiator. In fact this movie was very much Gladiator meets Lord of the Rings.

4. It's very much a men's movie, and i can see why kainedamo (a woman as far as i can see) wouldn't like it. Even though the female parts were increased from the novel, it's very much a male movie - you can almost smell that locker-room man-stink! I think a little more could have been done to increase its attraction to a wider audience.

5. I didn't find it at all homophobic or gay-stereotypical (but it is homoerotic). But, in fact, it could have been more 'homo' than it was, as the Spartans didn't have our silly modern-day prejudices and the male warriors of Sparta had young boy lovers and washed and groomed each other. I can sort of understand why this wasn't in (Hollywood anxieties...zzzzz) but it could have been in...

6. The narrator guy had a funny voice and it annoyed me! (For UK posters, the narrator's voice reminded me of George the hippo on children's TV programme Rainbow!)

7. The unreal-looking giant wolf was the worst part of the whole movie. It looked far too fake, and made me worried that other creature creations would also look bad (they didn't, thankfully)

Wait are you sad that it wasnt more homoerotic?

This movie was so epic it was utterly amazing
End of the movie I was standing outside the theatre with my friends and we all now had the urge to start stabbing ppl
Good thing or bad thing not too sure but was inspirational
I think for the style of movie it was more dialogue and/or story would have made it almost awkward and boring

Oops, sorry! :o

LOL!

Anyway, I saw it last night. Thought it was OK.

Entertaining, but I have to admit I just wasn't blown away by it. The only thing I found annoying was all the chest thumping and trumpeting the Spartans did about "freedom from tyranny". Normally, I wouldn't find that bad in a movie, but knowing what the Spartans really were like through history books and what they subjected the Thespians too, I thought it was like the pot calling the kettle black. Sounded very hypocritical and had to keep reminding myself that this was comic book story. Anyway, putting that aside, it was a good time.

Regarding the "Gladiator and wheat field" reference, I did notice that too, but I took that as a homage to the earlier film and not a direct rip off.

:ninja: Heh! Well, my comments still stand. This was very much a 'bloke' movie... it was over-the-top in its masculine posturing, and that won't be to everyone's tastes (especially women, although they might like the array of nice bods)...:hyper:

I don't think I'm necessarily 'sad' that it wasn't more 'homo-erotic' but it wasn't historically accurate in that sense. But I guess a scene of man-on-man action (tastefully and sensually shot) might have been nice to honour the true nature of Spartan love. Depicting paedophilia would not have been a good idea, but some nod towards the Spartan same-sex culture would be more honest than all the chest-beating. Here's a link about the Spartan sexuality
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartan_pederasty

If you found it inspirational and wanted to start stabbing people, I'm very worried for how easily influenced you are and how much you want validation/empowerment from a Hollywood movie. Yikes! Is the modern man so threatened he needs a Hollywood movie and weapons as props...

And I'll add that I'm not trying to 'bash' the movie by mentioning my 'quibbles' with it (the wolf is the worst thing it had to offer). Make up your own mind. For a budget of $65 million, he gave us a lot more visual beauty than in movies costing three or four times as much (SR = $270m, X3 = $210m).
