This morning while I was sitting at the bus stop waiting for the city bus to pick me up, an marine sergant walks up to me and starts asking me all sorts of questions. He told me that I would be a good fit to be in the military becuase I looked pretty fit and looked like I was in good shape. To make this long story short I gave him my phome number, he gave his card, and he's going to come to my house monday morning to pick me up and take me to his office to talk. These two guys at my college were telling me about the positives and negatives about the marines like " chicks dig the uniform" and "my college tuition will be payed for". I have told my mom about this about I haven't told my dad becuase I'm terrified to death! I have no ideal how he's going to react.

Go for it, you get to travel to exotic countries, meet intresting people...and kill them.

Right....."talk".

Chicks love those dead marines in their snazzy uniforms, and all those dead marines going to college, woo! cant get enough of them.

Really think about what youre doing. Im not saying not to, but dont be blinded by the propaganda.

That is a very noble profession. If you feel a calling for that, go for it. I thank you in advance for your sacrifice.

Id pick better wording next time.

right
well my only advice would be that if you are going to go, go all the way
be a NAVY SEAL or GREEN BERET OR A NIGHTSTALKER ARMY RANGER PUNISH DAILY
less chance of dying
plus you look like a Ghost Recon beast coming out of lakes like the lochness

You have every right to be afraid. The American Army will use your life to help repair its damaged ego,and your death will be for nothing and no one will care about your family or how they will be supported because you are gone. Not to mention the pain and anguish they will feel since your no longer with them.

my bro is a marine and has been for the last 12 years...he is just going to retire because they are taking care of his family. he joined because he didnt finish college and knocked up his then girlfriend now wife. he tells me he hates everything about it, but he does it for his wife and kids. he's gone to iraq twice and is going back a third time when he re-enlists. he doesnt talk about what he has seen over there. the only thing he asked me was "What would you do if a little kid was pointing a gun at you and you knew he would kill you if you didnt kill him first?" i recommend you try going to school first or find something you can dedicate yourself too besides killing/dying for your country. there are more noble ways to fight for america. that or if you really feel like joining, go into it with a college degree and do something productive instead of just strapping on boots and shooting any brown person wearing a turbin.

You need to understand this, if you enlist, they WILL send you to Iraq. The only way around that is to take a desk job of some kind. So while they promise to pay for your college, and they will, remember that they will be more likely to send you to Iraq first, then if you make it back, they'll send you to college. Make no mistake about it, this recruiter is a salesman. His job is to sell you on being a Marine, and he will try very hard to convince you to join. Think it over long and hard, because once you enlist, they own your ass.

I don't know many military guys with hot girlfriends. Not to say there aren't, but chicks don't "dig the uniform".

I would have to a give u same advise as Malakai, unless u really need the $ to go college and there's no other way to get the cash, life in the Military can be very boring.
They WILL own your ass, unless u AWOL.

Serving in the military can be a great thing....but it should never be entered into lightly. Talk to more people than just the person being paid to talk you into joining.

whoever falls for that pay college crap is a sucker. sure they do pay for it, but the thing is when the **** are going to find time to go to college? when your in the army, you're a soldier 24/7. trust me you won't be graduating college any time soon. all you'll end up with is a missing limb and or blinded.

I myself fell for it. Was talked into joining the Army National Guard to pay for college. The trick was, I had to pay for college, pass the classes, they the Army would pay me back. Now this was back in '94, but I'm sure not much has changed.

Alot of anti-military hyperbole there, not alot of substance. How sad.

Much like this thread. Alot of broken and misinformed opinions by a bunch of other civilians who thinks that convincing people that they're going to die if they go into the military is 'the right thing to do'. You know what the right thing to do is? Let the people who want to go and fight, fight. We didn't make this country on the backs of a bunch of lazy, death-fearing dumbasses who sit on their computers all day and talk about how horrible the military is.

Let the kid go ****ing represent his country with valour if he wants to. Don't take that right away from him by 'explaining that he's going to die' (hyperbole) or that the military is 'an evil beast that will take control of who you are as a person' (also, hyperbole). I've met and personally had several P.E. classes with recruits.. and they haven't been turned into mindless killing zombies yet. Nor does enlisting ensure your death. If it did, then damn.. we must be screwed because the majority of our armed forces are in Iraq. Better start ordering those few hundred thousand body bags in advance.. :o
