I bought the new Harold & Kumar DVD...

I stopped there.

The back cover is sad. $133 milion domesic is something to boast about? A reminder about Hulk's level of recognition? "Incredible marketing muscle?" Those statements are pathetic.

I know. To the ignorant part of the GA that might mean something, but it is only a sad reminder of lukewarm reception for Hulk fans.

i really hope it's not the latter, cause i aint buying the 3 disc.

Yeah...I don't need a digital copy. The normal 2 disc edition will suffice.

You're not paying for the digital copy. It's a bonus. Always have been.

And again, it's not hard to see that the flyer/ad is not for us. It has the box office numbers and all of the films marketing partners. It's obviously something made for studio insiders.

Kind of like when you go to a licensing expo and you get a booklet filled with a bunch of upcoming movies that lists a description, the desired rating, and the audience the movie is geared toward.

Oh, and FYI: The Incredible Hulk was a success in Marvels eyes. A movie doesn't have to make $300M to be successful. :whatever:

Well good, I guess. I still don't need it

Who said it needed to break $300 million to be succesful? I just find the "133 Million Box Office Smash!" thing kind of funny, and unnecesary. I know it's not directed "at us" per se. Like I said, the GA might be impressed.

ah ok, i thought the 3 disc DVD was proportionally more expensive. if its the same price as the typical 2 disc DVDs, i guess it won't make a difference then.

it was really a success because they didn't really make back the money spent on the movie. that's really a success, not making 300 mil.

How so? It cost about $150 and made back $235.

while i know what you're saying, typically, studio only really consider domestic returns to determine success vs. failure. it has more meaning. WW and DVD are bonuses.

it cost 150, got back 133. if the WW was important, they would have used that statistic instead of 133, which i think would have made a bigger impact. 133 really isn't that much, even for the "so-called ignorant" general audience.

Hopefully enough to convince Norton to come on out for the Avengers.

I actually haven't seen TIH. It'd be neat if they could do a bundle with this and Iron Man. Something like, "Avengers Initiative, Phase 1" and put both DVDs together. I loved Iron Man, but I wouldn't mind waiting a few weeks more to get them together, if they could throw some nice bonuses in.

I thought it seemed out of place as well. Movies that have made 600, 400, 300 and even 200 million haven't put their numbers on the box to try and sell it. But the whole "SUPER BOX OFFICE SMASH!" stuff seems to forced.

Being the 9th best performing movie of the summer is impressive, specially this year.

People are jaded now a days with thinking unless you make 300 min. in the US, then you are a failure, just not how the business works, box office rarely means anything anymore, its all about dvd sales.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. :oldrazz:

But, Marvel continues to claim that TIH was a success, so why must people discredit that claim?

Because they aren't making a sequel and are rushing to get the sequel done with Iron Man. If there was money to be made they'd do it. No one says

"Hey that movie was a smash hit!"

"Yeah! A sequel would do even better after even more people see it on DVD! Let's NOT make one!"

"Good idea! Money sucks!"

Oh, yeah. "ZOMG WE'RE MAKING A SEQUEL RIGHT NOW!!!!!!" = success. And if not, then obvious failure. :whatever:

are you saying if they don't instantly want to do a sequel it's an obvious failure????

[cough] the dark knight. [cough]

last i checked, they still havn't made up there minds on whether or not they wanted to do a sequel on that. (and last i checked that was a major success)

While I get your point, TiH still did not enjoy the success of a BB. I really think that it should have though.

That's what everyone seems to thing. :whatever:

Without Nolan, who would WANT a sequel? He actually concerns himself with whether he can top the previous movie.

A Hulk/Iron Man combo would be very cool. They'll probably have those out for Christmas.

how is that impressive? its the 9th of the summer, you're not even talking of the year.

about #2, its unfortunate you think that because it is the exact opposite. BO means the world to the studios, what are you talking about? yeah there have been situations where the movie wasn't great but picked up on DVD sales, but that is absolutely the exception, not the rule.

TIH will probably do pretty good in the DVD sales, simply because you can skip most of the movie and watch the few good scenes.
