http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/827896-two-year-old-boy-who-smokes-40-cigarettes-a-day

Ardi got his first taste for tobacco when his father Mohammed, a 30-year-old fishmonger, gave him a cigarette when he was a year and a half old - and now he throws tantrums if he can't doesn't get his 40 cigarettes a day.
Ardi, from Musi Banyuasin in Sumatra, Indonesia, will smoke only one brand and his habit costs his parents £3.78 a day - in a province where the minimum wage is around £69 a month.

The two-year-old now weighs 4 stone, and trundles round on a toy truck blowing smoke rings as he is too unfit to run with the other children.

His 26-year-old mother Diana, who has been trying to get him to quit but with little success, said: 'He's totally addicted. If he doesn't get cigarettes, he gets angry and screams and batters his head against the wall. He tells me he feels dizzy and sick.'

Officials have offered to buy the family a car if he quits, but his father said: 'He looks pretty healthy to me. I don't see the problem.'

It's in Indonesia, so meh. I hope when a komodo dragon eats the kid that the lizard doesn't get any type of cancer.

Then let him, one less idiot to foul up this planet in 10 years.

It's not the kid who is an idiot but the father. At 2 years old that kid doesn't know any better and is severly messed up health wise for starting to smoke that early.

As SuperFerret said, it's in Indonesia so I really don't care either way...and because of that...I've heard of that saying "get 'em while they're young" but this is ridiculous and humorous at the same time.:hehe:

Yeah, but in that kind of parenting, he's going to grow up just as big an idiot as his father.

Heh yea i see this in the paper today. The dads like "I don't see the problem?"

Don't they have child endangerment laws in Indonesia ?

it's a third world country, I don't think child safety is too high on the list of priorities

They have Sharia Law on some of those islands.:cmad: I'm sure there's something in the Koran that speaks out against s*** like that.

*disclaimer : doesn't think all muslims practice strict Sharia Law
infact most are pretty good people.*

This news is all kinds of messed up, and that father should get a punishment for letting his son get addicted to cigarettes. I'm shocked that the parents won't at least force the child to quit due to the high expenses associated with this habit. As a parent myself, news like this peeved me off big time.

I'm not Muslim but I am religous. So what's wrong with people practicing their religions laws?

Because like any set of laws , religious laws can be abused and/or twisted. The Taliban twisted Sharia law to pretty much enslave the people of Afghanistan. I've read that on some Indonesian islands they practice a strict form of Islamic law.

This isn't Afghanistan? I think most Muslims don't abuse the Sharia

Part of Sharia Law includes stoning of adulterers and apostates. Does that answer your first question?

I was just saying that on some of those islands in Indonesia they follow a strict version of Sharia. It can easily go to the Taliban level if the clerics choose to. That's why I have a problem with Christian fundies even though I'm Christian aswell. They can easily turn America into a larger early 18th century New England if they wanted to if they ever got into power.

I think Sharia calls for due process in such cases, even if some Muslims don't beieve so.

The 26 year old mother has been trying to get him to stop!?!?! He's two freaking years old! If you want him to stop, quit giving them to him!

Agree completely. Utterly ridiculous situation all around.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.

You're assuming too much.

I keep picturing Baby Herman from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"...
