Inevitable Remake

Walter, why did you revive this?
It wasnt so much a revive as much as it was something that i wanted to get out of my system, much like my first post on this thread was. the rivatalization of this thread was a side-effect

The Spidey movies getting a reboot should be the very LAST thing on our minds right now.

Now, the focus should be on Spider-Man 4. If Spider-Man 4 turns out to be a disaster (like Batman & Robin), THEN we can talk about a reboot.

I don't know, but talking about a possible reboot now makes me think that the fans are already negative about Spidey 4, and there isn't even a director chosen for it yet! Boooooooo.

Dude, I so dont want spider-man 4 to happen. Even if all the best villains and storylines werent already used, and even if there werent many more stories to tell about Peter Parker growing up, The third one is such a good way to end the series. I mean granted it wasnt a great movie, but it ties up all the loose ends nicely. It's not like the first or second film where it ends promising a sequel. This movie ends the trilogy so well, to tack on another flick would be so, well, tacky.

I think 4 should be it for this series. 5 and 6 is pushing it, in my eyes. Lizard is really the only must-have villain left, with the exception of Kraven. Everything else isn't really movie-worthy.

They'll reboot the series in 20 years (or less depending how desperate Hollywood becomes. Coughbatmancough....coughANDhulkcough).

But what's hard is they're going to have to retell the origin story. And after how near flawless it was told by Raimi in the first hour of SM1 and the introduction of GG (albeit killing Gwen could be an easy way of topping that) I imagine it'd be hard to tell this story. I mean it's not like you can just remake it again....it'd be redundant. It'd be like remaking Richard Donner's Superman movie...oh wait.

Yeah, but the story of Superman had already been told numerous times in all forms of media prior to Superman the Movie in 1978.

But the main thread of the series - Peter and MJ - is left hanging in the final shot. What hapens now?

In many ways it was the only possible ending for the movie, as Raimi himself doesn't know if Dunst and/or Maguire will even be around for Spidey 4. Peter and MJ hugging in a non-specific way that confirms nothing accept forgiveness...is perfectly fitting the episodic, never-ending nature of comicbook heroes.

It was really perfectly executed. If Kirsten doesn't come back, fine, because 4 can just say her relationship with Peter is over (and Bryce Dallas Howard is there). If she does come back, no problem, MJ can marry Peter - on a hill - now they have got through their darkest hour.

True. But the Spidey movie is probably the most popular of the three Raimi pics and its origin (as wlel as the upside down kiss) have become iconic pieces of pop culture for this decade. I could see trying to get it closer to the comics (a la James Cameron) in how he discovers his powers and when he gets bitten, but it would just feel redundant unless it is more like a generation between the reboot (30+ years) and now...which knowing Hollywood is impossible as Batman had a reboot within 8 years, I'd say Spidey will be rebooted in no more than 20 and justr as redoing a Superman origin, even one is different and cool as say TAS's version, would feel redundant after the flawless telling of Donner's first two acts.

I don't think Spidey will get 'rebooted' as quickly in cinemas as Batman.

Batman is open to endless interpretations. You have Batman & Robin in 1997, then Batman Begins a mere eight years later.* Batman can morph to suit the audiences' tastes at the time. Completely different films, yet the same source material. Spidey, like Superman (and just about every other fictional character save James Bond), doesn't vary that much. When the public is bored of Spider-Man, you can't change everything ala Batman Begins or Casnino Royale.

*I would even go so far as to say Batman is now cemented as a character of cinema as much as comicbooks. Batman is the most cinematic of superheroes and he'll never be gone from the big screen for long. The Batman series has a formula like James Bond and it can continue indefinetly.

They are probably going to reboot the series 20 or 30 years from now like others have said. But thankfully not right now because the series is going great so far and I know that greatness will continue in the coming Sequals.

1.) I hate reading your posts because you think these Spider-Man movies are God and there's no wrong in them.

2.) It's spelled sequels.

3.) I pray for a re-make of the Spider-Man franchise and would like at least the first movie solely with Peter in his junior year of high school, facing off someone else that's not Green Goblin, and keep GG for the third movie(since Greeny is Spidey's numero uno nemesis). Venom, yes, I would like to see...and possibly go with the Ultimate versions for most of the villains(Ultimate Green Goblin, who wouldn't wanna see that?) and use the Venom suit as a cure for cancer...I have the hardcover of that story arc and I really enjoy it.

I enjoyed it...it was very much different for the characters of Eddie and Venom, but I actually liked it...it being a suit for cancer made no sense, but in the end, just the way the Venom character looked like, I liked the look with the teeth all over the place; but to each his own.

i think eddies death from cancer would have been a good way to conclude the venom story .

With Eddie being in one movie...him having cancer would be way too much rushing in the movie.

There are a few movies in history they'll never remake (Gone with the wind, Citizen Kane, Casablanca) But this franchise wont be one of them. :csad: I feel old already.

:yay: Man i love Casablanca...best ..movie...ever...

But anyway. If they remake Spidey then it is gonna happen and you're gonna love it or loathe it. If it goes the batman begins (some other guys take on it) - it wont be bad as long as the movie is good! :oldrazz:
I dont mind that at all!

I just simply would not want an Ultimate-ized GG, Doc Ock or Lizard. We already kind of got an ultimatized MJ (at least in the first movie). As for Venom, I really don't care as the character is weak and I support the changes Raimi made to him in SM3, if only he had more character development and screen time.

But to restart in 20 years I think it would be best to start with Doc Ock as the first Spidey villain, make it closer to the comics in origin and have both MJ and Gwen there with confident Spidey (post powers) bouncing off both of them. Then in SM2 have him in a real relationship with MJ, I'm not sure who the villain should be but end up by the end in love with Gwen and committed to her. And then in the third Spidey redone have Norman who has been a shadowy character haunting Harry (who I think cannot be done better than in these movies, so I'm not sure what to do about him, but he and Flash are friends with Peter forming a real coffee house-like gang of kids) as the very cruel and psychollogically disturbing father become GG...and well I mean can we really change too much about what he did to Parker in SM1? Maybe have them not firendly and Osborn find out who Spidey is early and vice versa so there is tension when they are on screen together a la TAS (in the comics it is kind of odd that Peter knows GG is out there throughout the '90s comics making money and could strike at any time and has his daughter and doesn't do jack ****). Of course end it wit hthe Death of Gwen Stacy.

With that said, I'm happy with these movies and how they've turned out for now. If Venom is ever to be redone I say introduce him early and do like TAS. The dopplenganger image is optional, but if they did it twice in 20 years fans will **** a chicken...or not. In 20 years these movies will be excepted by future generations who grew up with them, so maybe there will not be as much whining, then.
