^Whilst that is certainly true, I don't think we can blame this one on his highness. The prodigal son's only interest in the "internets" is a moral one. This one is on the people in the House (which is controlled by Republicans, though) that are in the pockets of big business. This would really serve their masters well.

I doubt it will get passed, either. ICANN has been pretty clear that they won't be enacting any policies that the U.S. government tries to push in the name of morality or infringing upon the freedom of the internet and that includes giving businesses an advantage over consumers in such a way. That said, our government does suck for attempting such things and it's a blatant example of how the current Republican regime is in the pocket of lobbyists.

And you seem to forget how many of these similar types of things the telecommunication industry has lost in the past. The telecoms have gotten the ***** beaten out of them the last 15 years...this will be just another failed attempt by them to counter the growing threat of the internet to their profits.
