Hey everyone, ok so here's the deal. My mom got a computer from my sister and bro-in law. It works just fine and I just recently installed a genuwine version of MS XP. There was no ethernet card so my mom went out and bought one and tried to install it, but the computer would not recognize the ethernet card after install. Nothing came up saying new hardware was installed.
So I messed around with it yesterday, same thing happened. I finally ran BIOS during a restart and the computer finally recognized it. BUT I still can't get it to connect to the internet. I installed the driver that it came with, went through all of the trouble shooting steps. Set up a new home or small office set up on the computer and all that jazz.
I pinged the modem/ethernet card, I manually checked for newly installed hardware and the computer says that the device is working properly and the ethernet card shows up under the list of installed hardware on the computer.
I spent at least two hours on that damn thing and I have no clue what else to do. I checked all of the connections to the computer and to the router. And I know for sure that the internet connection is good because there was an older computer hooked up before and it worked just fine.
Any help at all will be appreciated. Thanks.
