Iron Man Iron Man vs Iron Monger

Iron Man vs Jericho missiles would have been awesome reminds me of when I watched Macross Zero (jump to 35 seconds)

P.S. I also watch alot of anime, especially mecha anime so when I first saw the trailers I thought of the fantastic fight sequences I had scene in anime so you can understand if I was a little let down.
Dude, that video is pretty much exactly what i was talking about.

i watch a lot of gundam wing as well and get to see mechas taking out a multiple array of weaponary at the same time, I believed iron man should have drawn from this genre to make the fight epic.

It would have also have been nice to see those typical anime scenes where a couple of missles apparently hit iron man and a cloud goes around him, stane laughs only to see iron man has survived afterwards..

great video example. an additional jericho esque scene would have lasted about an additiona 90 seconds max but would have taken the fight to a whole new level of awesomeness...

Pros: Witty banter, throwing cars around, unibeam, more about tactics than violence (which seems to suit Tony's character).

Cons: A little on the short side (which is probably the tradeoff of a good tactician), no real use of the hand repulsor rays (which they built up quite a bit), still not exactly clear how Tony survived the fall/arc detonation but Obadiah didn't.

Yeah, it seemed kinda rushed. I just didn't like the way Stane climbed right into the suit and knew how to work everything, while Stark is the one who created the prototype and he couldn't even work it properly right away. After that terrorist attack scene, it would've been hard to top it anyhow...
The thing is that Stane wasnt supposed to wear the suit. It was just a prototype for mass production. He wasnt going to wear it and become a villain and destroy his image as a hard working member of the board. So the circumstances made him wear it.

I didnt like the fact that half the fight was with IM just standing there with no power. His power could have failed a bit later. Though it clearly showed why Tony is the smartest man around and how he beat that giant with his brain.

I too felt that the final battle felt too short and too generic. When I saw the trailers I felt that this fight was going to feel epic, intense, awe inspiring and pretty much something I hadn't really seen before. Basically I felt that it was going to be like the Spider-man 2 train sequence.

The Iron Man fight felt like it was just high point after high point after high point instead of the Spider-man 2 fight was like one long rush. With Iron Man it was freeway, and then the car, and then the bus, and then the flight, and then the ark reactor. It felt like the action was split up into smaller ones. With Spider-man it was like blow, after blow, after blow was exchanged so it felt like one long continuous fluid fight. Also to me the Spider-man fight felt more intense because I could see that he had no protection so when he got hit I knew it hurt. And also many of the shots just looked amazing like when Spider-man had to swing back to the train and when he had to stop it. Not that Iron Man didn't have any cool looking scenes but I just felt that Spider-man's were better. And that brings up another point, the train sequence had an immediate sense of danger because you could see that the tracks were ending. Now I know Iron Man had danger too because if Iron Man lost Stane would have spread the armor and who know's what would have happened, but because it had to be inferred and not seen that immediate sense of danger was not there. The only danger felt was that Tony could going to die, now we also knew in Spider-man 2 that Spider-man could die but we also knew that everyone in that train could too so it adds to the sense of danger. Also on the point of danger I don't know about anyone else but with Spider-man 2 I felt a great deal of anticipation and joy when Spider-man was able to stop the train because I knew that he only had a slim chance of saving everyone and when he overcame the odds and saved the day it was just an amazing feeling. With Iron Man there was some anticipation but when he defeated Iron Monger it was like "Yeah he was beaten but all you did was have a girl push a button, you didn't really overcome impossible odds." Also the lack of a good score really drags down the final Iron Man fight. Scores can really add to a scene and Iron Man's really didn't add anything at all.

I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant but I just feel compelled to defend mine and everyone else's opinion that the final Iron Man fight was not up to par with what a superhero fight should be.

good analysis

and good clip
unfortunately it would have been wasted, for favareau doesn't film action like that

The final battle was pretty long. If it felt short, it's probably because the threat never feels that large.

Pros: Witty banter, throwing cars around, unibeam, more about tactics than violence (which seems to suit Tony's character).

"Witty"? No. Just no.

I think Tony survived because he was blasted away and was shielded by his costume, while Obadiah was directly hit and stayed there, and he was more exposed.

Yeah, and Obadiah had his entire torso exposed, Tony's body was covered except for his head, and we don't know for sure if the arc detonation killed Obadiah. He might have survived if he hadn't fallen into the building and been blown apart when his armor hit the arc.

Iron Monger was very well designed.

He reminds me of an anime robot. Or even BIG GUY (From BIG GUY AND RUSTY)

I hadn't thought of that! Now THAT is a great comparison! Even his voice reminded me of Big Guy! :woot:

Didn't Obadiah fall into the arc reactor and then it detonated? Tony was on the roof (barely) out of harm's way. I don't think Stane died when he got hit with the beam, just the explosion.

Why not? The dialog makes sense, just because it wasn't of good quality,it doesn't mean the banter in the final battle was stupid. I'm not saying the dialog was good, but it wasn't bad either,it seemed average IMO. What they said was coherent. It's not like they were talking in baby language. You could have just said that the dialog was witty, but the exchange of words didn't fall into the good quality category. Speaking of dialog in the final battle, the only good part from it seemed to be the freezing up scene IMO.

I enjoyed it. Build up was great, Monger was immense just tossing IM all over the place. Simple classic ending, villain gets all cocky and sure that he's got it in the bag, talks smack all while letting his guard down leaving him extra vulnerable. I was happy with it all. :yay:

What were some of the things said? I remember the part about the icing problem, and I remember he was saying something while stepping on Tony. It was hard to hear them in the suits, IMO. Don't get me wrong, I thought the voices in the suits were cool, but they were hard to understand sometimes.

Yeah, when comparing the IM fight to the likes of Spidey Vs Ock (IMO both of their fights in that movie are superb, Wolverine vs Deathstrike, and number 1 for me Blade vs Nomak, IM's final battle was pretty dissapointing.

It was alright. could have been... more but glad that Stane is dead after all he back stabbed Tony so wrong :( I Felt for tony

it is not the best fight. but its a good fight. hey the movie actually has a fight. not like SR.

I know Monger called Ironman a prick because he wasn't staying still.
He said "stay still you little prick".. He also said to Potter "You're service(or services) is no longer required.".

Iron Man Vs Iron Monger was a generic lame fight - easily the worst part of the film.

I loved everything else!

The way that Iron Monger moved, I thought it was awesome!!!! I was on the edge of my seat all throughout that battle. I also loved the deeper, mechanical voice for Iron Monger itself.

THIS FIGHT ROCKED!! Man! Some of these guys are just hard to please! As one guy said..."This is comic book gold!"

The Monger was a bad mamma jamma!!

Those boot thrusters on him were awesome!!

^Yeah, he was like a shuttle, taking off.
Iron Monger was fast for his size too, and it was awesome.

Someone said Iron Monger was 7 ft tall in the movie,if he is,then IMO his stature looked larger than that. IMO,the final fight between Iron Man and Iron Monger in the movie is better than most final battles in comic book movies which I have seen.
