Iron Man's Armor

That, too. I was thinking more of Secret War than pretty much every issue of Captain America for the last five years. :o
He dropped in to help out DD (well, probably because of Black Widow) during Bendis' run, too.

The Iron Man armor not getting an upgrade would kind of be like Reed Richards deciding to not invent things. The Iron Man armor will always recieve some odd end upgrade that falls along these lines. It's not like he's off harnessing the power cosmic now.

Recently, with Extremis, which should enhance his strength all sorts, and let him breathe fire or whatever, it gave him a super tech upgrade which made him some form of technopath (similar to Cable), up to the point he can hack into closed circuit things with ease, and bust through brick walls. The armor itself benefits, because of his physical upgrade, and can move faster, and use his brain as a processor for extremely lightning fast responses. Before, he had some form of psychotech to allow his brain to contact his armor and move it like a second skin, so it's not really new. It's kind of like upgrading your computer. It did everything fine before, it just does it better now.

He's still basic flight, self controlled armor, alarm systems, repulsor systems, laser systems, radar systems (I haven't seen pulse bolts in this one yet, but I doubt they're not in there.) Just with the upgrade that he can easily control other technological junk like his other armors, or split his attention ten ways from Sunday. The only upgrade that felt rushed (though was probably inevitable), was the "Spider Sense" upgrade, which his personal neural net employs to basically use the same frequency function as Spider Man's own. While he's powerful like this, true, he's definitely no match for some of the stronger people like Thor or Hercules or his own Sentry. Definitely when the Hulk comes back, he'll actually require the ploy of a specialty armor (like that Argonaut that was basically destroying the Avengers via Tony's subconciousness.) So basically, the Hulk could stomp him (if Tony drops like every one of these upgrades and just decides to be slow) otherwise, Tony will probably just pose to piss him off, because really, none of his weapons have really hurt the Hulk outside of his specialty things.

Yeah, he's recieved a super mega upgrade lately, but I doubt anybody would place him top ten most power on Earth with any sort of ease. Even with those sonics.

To answer the original question, no, he doesn't just get an upgrade necessary to the situation. At least fifteen times he's been caught with his pants down during CW alone with his armor getting shut down for every which reason that may exist. (Though it was hilarious it took him like ten seconds to reboot his armor the first time, and couldn't reboot it at all the second time.)

Please, don't give them any ideas...

back in the day(early 90's,late 80's) iron mans arms and legs were solid yellow on his armor, did they explain how this was done?

shouldn't this thread be in the iron man forum?

So what happens when he has to go to the bathroom? Is there some sort of storage or recepticle in there?
Yes, actually. I'm pretty sure he's made a mention about that before, and I know he actually stores water in his armor so he doesn't dehydrate, so it would only make sense.
This makes me wish I could have Iron Man's armor more than any number of repulsor rays or EMPs or anything else. Is that wrong?

"3-D knit alloys," according to Wikipedia. The parts of older Iron Man suits that seemed to conform to his musculature were made of some kind of microfiber weave that was really durable yet skintight.

still, nothing is as cool as reed's "unstable molecules".

The knit alloys, no. But, according to Wikipedia, Iron Man's method of constructing the rest of his armor is about a thousand times cooler than silly unstable molecules:
Wikipedia said:
Construction
The armor is not simply a metal suit; in fact, a typical Iron Man armor will have no actual rigid parts, all of them being collapsible in their inactive state. Instead, the suit consists of approximately two million grain-of-sand-sized discrete units, which are shaped to have as large a surface as possible to optimize their effectiveness. The basis of Iron Man´s structural integrity is namely the powerful force field which permeates the armor´s "cells", as well as the whole. Each of the "cells" is a tiny unit in its own right, contributing energy and computing power to the entire armor; this is also why the suit can remain functional even having sustained considerable damage: the basic principle of the suit is holographic (each part contains the whole, as it were). Despite the immense strength and durability of the armor, it is collapsible on the microscopic level, the cells "folding" in on themselves to take up a smaller volume, like a three-dimensional accordion plate. Needless to say, the construction of even a single "cell" would take an enormous amount of time: automated construction is a must. For example, to attain molecular perfection in the construction of extremely small parts in the separate "cells", specialized bacteria are deployed - the bacteria consume minute amounts of specific metals, then arrange themselves on pre-tagged areas on the "chip wafer", then die, leaving a very small amount of iron, or gold, or gallium-arsenide. This method allows great precision in determining the thickness of circuitry. While Tony Stark designs every aspect of the armor, production is practically entirely automated.

that is pretty cool. but isn't it all moot after the whole extremis thing?

I imagine the armor itself is still made of those nanite-esque chips. Only the gold and silver exosuit under the armor is stored inside Tony's pores. The rest of the armor floats onto him whenever he calls it.

the extremis story was cool (GREAT artwork), but i think i prefer my iron man to be...clunkier. like the bob layton years iron man.

i do like the "futurist" tony stark, the "man of tomorrow" vibe they're giving him lately. it's a nice way of building on the character and making him grow, but i think if i could choose, i'd take the old iron man.

i think i'm just jonesing for some classic marvel stories...

Why wouldn't I?

Think "Astronaut suit". And I actually tried to get that out on paper once, the power strain would kill the user.

Yeah, the undersuit that basically acts as the chaffing buffer is only stored in him, the armor tesseracts itself to the suit.

I only like Iron Man blocky when considering his "upper limit" armors, such as Hulkbuster and Thorbuster class armors. Iron Man as he stands models efficiency, which is a heavy stride for anybody who follows technology.

The old Iron Man would be like...Crimson Dynamo if he went back to the past.

I loved the Silver Centurion armor. I wouldn't mind seeing him go back to some variation on that. Iron Man is synonymous with red and gold, though. Another Iron Lad in a variant of the Silver Centurion armor would be cool, though. Maybe Amadeus Cho... that'd be neat.

my version of amadeus cho would be just like he's depicted in the newest hulk preview. i like the idea of a kid on a scooter who just happens to consider the hulk as a friend. i don't want him anywhere near a costume or a suit.

Everyone unusual in the Marvel universe gets a costume at some point. Cho's unusually smart. It's coming... just you watch. :oldrazz:

Amadeus Cho... the Iron Hoodlum!

On a totally unrelated note, does anyone wonder why Iron Man is still called "Iron" Man? "Synthetic Man" or "Tech Man" or even "Alloy Man" would be so much more descriptive of his actual powers and armor than "Iron Man." I don't think any of his armors were made of iron past his original gray one, and that was only because it was built from scrap metal.

i'm sure everyone's wondered that. nothing sounds as cool as "iron man" though..."synthetic man"? c'mon...

Well that depends, which brings me to my next question. What the hell does the armor do with the waste? Just empty it out? Convert it into some type of energy?

That's what I got from it.

Converts it into tasty drinking water, I bet. Or maybe it routes it into the cooling system or something.

Given the complexity of his armor, I somehow doubt that'd be hard to change into water as well.

Actually, most likely, he tries to go before strapping in, or it probably compacts it into a side compartment, or he converts it into energy, or it just releases from the sides of his armor or something.

As for Amadeus Cho, I'd like to see him build his own little armor, then get the smack down for building inferior tech. XD

But nothing sounds as awesome as "Iron Man". It just has that "tough guy" feel to it.
