Won't be something new, sure War Machine didn't carry the word 'Iron' in his title, but he was a man in an Iron armor.I wonder what this has to do with the recent announcement that Dr. Doom is taking up the Ironman mantle as well? How will that work? 2 Ironpeople?
Well, at least you agree with the fact that these "new characters" need to highjack an old one to get established. Very sad admission. And insultingly dishonest. Poor riri and Jane, no one would have paid attention had they been their own thing. My point all along, .thanksShrug, there's literally no reason to be mad about this. Thor was spacehorse once. If the story is good, great. Jane Foster's Thor is consistently one of the best books Marvel publishes. Superior Spider-Man was the best Spider-Man story in years. Fans who quit in a huff over these things are only depriving themselves of great stories told from unique veiwpoints. God forbid we have some variety in our comics from time to time.
Those who complain about "PC Marvel" obviously know nothing about zeitgeist. Life informs art. If you look at what's in the news today (and I mean literally today) and don't think a move like this has artistic merit, I honestly don't know what to tell you.
As for whether Riri should have been a new character... well, she inevitably will be, once her term as Iron Man is over. This just happens to be a far stronger way to launch her, that won't end in a book cancelled due to poor sales.
Too bad it's written by Bendis, though. He's become pretty stale and his Iron Man run has been flat so far.
what is Dr. Doom's status quo now? I'm not understanding any of this.
Sorry for my late reply but to my understanding His Lordship has reformed and is seeking to make his way as a hero now. After the latest Secret Wars debacle his face has been restored, however I think some *****ey writer will just come along some day and write some crappy twisted story (such as the human skin armor made from his Valeria) that will make him a boring hackneyed evil villain again.
She'll be called Ironheart:

So can everyone take a big collective sigh of relief now and move on?
You know people are going to complain that the book is still called Iron Man and that Marvel is piggybacking off of his name to sell to PC crowd
K now I know this is great for like FEMINISM and like DIVERSITY but personally I think the writers are going the wrong way
When I see this I feel that Marvel's only doing this for one reason
Publicity
This whole forum page is proof that making a big change is the easiest way to gain buzz
This really upsets me because they're making it a girl, not because they actuallyl believe it should be but because they want to make money.
If Marvel really wants to have a big female superhero, be original. Don't just relabel something because right now it seems like you're saying that women should always stand in the shadow of a man. If she's smart enough to create a better suit, don't confine her with the label of iron man, it will give you a chance to develop her character without the fanboys complaining.
I dont see a problem with it. Its a comic book and that cover doesnt look bad. Ive seen far more risque images that no one bats an eye at
