The New Iron Man is a Woman!

I wonder what this has to do with the recent announcement that Dr. Doom is taking up the Ironman mantle as well? How will that work? 2 Ironpeople?

Won't be something new, sure War Machine didn't carry the word 'Iron' in his title, but he was a man in an Iron armor.
And he was Iron Man for a few years, Tony and Rhodey had their adventures as the 'Iron Duo'.

As for Vic being a new Iron Man, I wonder how that will affect his performance as a monarch.

what is Dr. Doom's status quo now? I'm not understanding any of this.

Shrug, there's literally no reason to be mad about this. Thor was spacehorse once. If the story is good, great. Jane Foster's Thor is consistently one of the best books Marvel publishes. Superior Spider-Man was the best Spider-Man story in years. Fans who quit in a huff over these things are only depriving themselves of great stories told from unique veiwpoints. God forbid we have some variety in our comics from time to time.

Those who complain about "PC Marvel" obviously know nothing about zeitgeist. Life informs art. If you look at what's in the news today (and I mean literally today) and don't think a move like this has artistic merit, I honestly don't know what to tell you.

As for whether Riri should have been a new character... well, she inevitably will be, once her term as Iron Man is over. This just happens to be a far stronger way to launch her, that won't end in a book cancelled due to poor sales.

Too bad it's written by Bendis, though. He's become pretty stale and his Iron Man run has been flat so far.
Well, at least you agree with the fact that these "new characters" need to highjack an old one to get established. Very sad admission. And insultingly dishonest. Poor riri and Jane, no one would have paid attention had they been their own thing. My point all along, .thanks

Sorry for my late reply but to my understanding His Lordship has reformed and is seeking to make his way as a hero now. After the latest Secret Wars debacle his face has been restored, however I think some *****ey writer will just come along some day and write some crappy twisted story (such as the human skin armor made from his Valeria) that will make him a boring hackneyed evil villain again.

Which will hopefully coincide with the return of the FF.

So can everyone take a big collective sigh of relief now and move on?

So she's Iron Man...but not actually Iron Man. OK.

Just saying, it's symbolic of this whole event.

You know people are going to complain that the book is still called Iron Man and that Marvel is piggybacking off of his name to sell to PC crowd

Why did you repost an old article ? And yes people can complain about things that are true. That happens all the time and it makes complaints more valid than ones based on something thats not true. The latter is just plain nonsense

Because of the headline. It's pretty plain to see what's going on here.

I dont see how thats relevant to what I wrote. Its basically the subject of this thread. That article didnt offer anything new to the conversation

I wish they would find themselves the guts to just call the book Ironheart...

Annnnnd now the other side is in a tizzy over Ironheart being a Japanese porn parody title or something
I actually just saw someone on tumblr suggest Marvel must've known and they're purposefully disrespecting Riri by tying her to sexually violent pornography

so for as much as people here can overreact, tumblr still has us beat by a mile

K now I know this is great for like FEMINISM and like DIVERSITY but personally I think the writers are going the wrong way

When I see this I feel that Marvel's only doing this for one reason

Publicity

This whole forum page is proof that making a big change is the easiest way to gain buzz

This really upsets me because they're making it a girl, not because they actuallyl believe it should be but because they want to make money.

If Marvel really wants to have a big female superhero, be original. Don't just relabel something because right now it seems like you're saying that women should always stand in the shadow of a man. If she's smart enough to create a better suit, don't confine her with the label of iron man, it will give you a chance to develop her character without the fanboys complaining.

She's not Iron Man. You're kinda late to the program

MARVEL PULLS J. SCOTT CAMPBELL’S RIRI WILLIAMS IRON MAN COVER

That's understandable. The girl's 15 years old, after all. Not sure whose bright idea it was to try and sexualize her.

I dont see a problem with it. Its a comic book and that cover doesnt look bad. Ive seen far more risque images that no one bats an eye at

Even putting aside its sexualization of a 15 year old, it's just a bad cover.

That's kind of the problem though. Women are horribly represented in comics...yet it's become the accepted norm that it doesn't even phase anyone.
