Just controlling it, not necessarily "getting" it. It was really about making sure that Saudi Arabia remained in control of OPEC and that Iraq didn't tap any of it's numerous untouched oil wells. If they were to pump out oil to full capacity the price would drop significantly and Big Oil would never have that. Saddam was pushing it (or threatening to). There is no shortage of oil, just a shortage of morality and awareness.

Well techinically "The War on Terror" and "The War in Iraq" are two different things. The "War on Terror" is something like the "War on Drugs", a psuedo war fought by a variety of means but mostly amounts to a stance against terror than an actual war. The War in Iraq is touted as part of the "War on Terror" but is in itself a separate and distinct entity as it was clear their were other motives even from the beginning.

the first war was about oil, the last one was about revenge for daddy, and being glorious, and immitating war heroes seen in movies and tough guy cowboys. it was a chance for Bush to give speeches and become known as the great leader who lead us to victory.

but don't get me wrong though, Bush's family and oil buddies who donated all that money did make a large increase in oil profits because of this war. It caused the oil not to flow out of Iraq in as large quantities as it did before, which limited the supply, which increased it's value which increased it's price, which increased their profits.

This war was government corruption at it's finest.
