Just as some people stated Begins was a prequel to the Burton movies, I was just curious if there's still some ignorant people out there that still believe this series is related to the previous movies.

I actually had a buddy of mine a few months back who swore TDK was going to be a reimagining of Batman 89'

Yes.

"So since they're introducing Harvey Dent, the end of this will connect to the one with Tommy Lee Jones."

yeah, some of my friends do, but only those who still haven't seen Batman Begins (I showed it to about 10 of them for the first time the other day - it was great)

Yup, I just showed my sisters b/f the prologue last night on Blu-ray. He said "so the Penguin and Catwoman are in the next one?" And I said no...and he said "Oh they arent remaking all of them?" I then I proceeded to tell him they arent remaking any of them...blah blah

I hate talking about TDK with other people, cause most of them dont know anything. All they say is "OMGZ ITZ GONNA BEH DEH GERATEST MOVAH EVAH!" While it is true, its very annoying to hear everytime TDK gets brought into a conversation.
One of my friends randomly said "Dude, there is 3 bad guys like spiderman 3, it better not suck"

EDIT: Oh yea, how could I forget. I heard a person say "Is Jack in this one?" Before I Am Legend, after the trailer played

Yeah I remember some tv shows even saying Begins was prequel to the other films, but thats mostly because the events didnt clearly overlap the previous movies continuity for those that arent paying detailed attention. Now with TDKs opening, it will be universally known that this is a reboot franchise.

But its funny to hear some of average joes still dont understand yet, that just goes to show how hard it was to get away from the vortex that was that sinking franchise.

Most, if not all, of my friends know everything about this movie. If they don't, they ask.

For example, I spent some time on the phone - the other evening - telling two girlfriends about BB. After explaining in FULL detail, they still did not get it.

"So. . this is a remake, prequel - what?"

Once I said these fews words - it sunk in: "Pretend the other movies never happened."

Moreover, this thread makes me want to have a Batman Marathon, before the midnight showing.

Yes - I mean ALL the movies. from Adam West, to Keaton, to Kilmer, to Clooney, and then to Bale.

Heres why some still dont get it:

One of the things that made the previous franchise so tough to distance from was the loose continuity between films within it. Each film would MORPH into something slightly different. Burtons partially to blame for that, so when Begins came with this heightened sense of believability, many still thought it was the same franchise.

Is this thread seriously necessary?

I can see what you mean because we all know that this is a reboot but the average person doesn't roam on these boards so they don't know what TDK is about.

We have to get the word out to the masses by going on non-superhero message boards like.....The View, Oprah, Desperate Housewives.

I'll be honest, I thought Begins was a prequel. I only saw the trailer and the TV spots a handful of times, then saw the movie randomly on opening night and was blown away by how awesome it was. Then clearly learned it was its own series.

Batman (1989) was on TV tonight and my sister asked, "So, is Heath Ledger like the Joker when he's older? Why's Jack look so polished and young?". Then yesterday a few of us from work were on our way to the Batpod/Tumbler and got into the whole 1989 vs. 2008 debate and I tried explaining how inaccurate some plot points in '89 were, I felt too nerdy and bailed.

Stand your ground dude. Luckily all my friends are fellow nerds so we never have to explain anything when it comes to the differences between '89 and the Nolan Bat-universe. I am a HUGE, HUUUUUGE fan of Tim Burton. I own every single one of his movies (cept Charlie & The Chocolate Factory), I have Jack Skellington tattooed on my arm, etc. But I still disagree with his portrayal of the Batman universe. Not to say it's complete ****, but it's nowhere near what Batman is supposed to be. It's still entertaining and I still think Keaton is the second best Batman next to Christian Bale. But yeah, it's one of the very few movies I disagree with Burton on (including his remake of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory). Namely The Joker being the one that killed Bruce's parents is one of the biggest cop-outs I've ever seen. I think the only reason they did that was because Jack Nicholson's Joker was so likeable and flamboyant that they needed some real reason for Batman to want to exact personal revenge against him (that right there breaking Batman's #1 rule even from the comics). Cause if you notice, Batman doesn't do jack **** to stop the Joker until he realizes he killed his parents.

I think Nolan's vision of Batman is genius and should go down as the definitive portrayal of the Batman universe in live action media (with Batman TAS being the definitive animated portrayal).

And that was my rant. Thank ya.

To clarify, they were two girls I work with so... was kind of different haha. I mentioned something how the early reviews are raving about Heath, they said no one can criticize him now because of his death (which sadly is true really, think about it), then I said there was a huge buzz for this movie even before that (I COULD elaborate further by sending them to the wiki site haha), then they were saying how Batman 1989 will always be the best, then I said how it was good but they messed up alot of things storyline wise like how Joker didn't kill Bruce's parents and how Batman doesn't kill, then we got off on a different subject before I could elaborate further.

However, there are a few very educated (more than me) Batman fans at work who can openly discuss the topic at lunch, it's great! The friends in the previous paragraph were only casual fans.

It's a head-scratcher for me about those types since it's not like Batman was invented in 1988 & a movie made the following year. There's now about 70 years worth of Batman history to go on, which is what I don't get as to why people think that the earlier films are the only stories/characters to go on.

Ah yeah, I getcha. Most of the time that stuff flies right over the heads of girls (not you lovely SHH ladies!). :woot:

Clearly this movie is a direct sequel to Batman Forever.

I had friends telling me "of course this is prequel previous movies" I said "how?" he said "well you have Joker from Batman 89 and Harvey Dent from Batman Forever." I was like "...." :whatever:

No, I've been lucky so far. I was with two female friends the other day and they mentioned the previous franchise and how excited they were about Heath, but they didn't seem to think it was connected in any way to the old movies, really. Or so I think...

When the details of this movie were first coming out I had people asking me "But how did the Joker survive that fall," or "Why did they change the Joker's name to Joe Chill," followed by "and how does he become the Joker if he gets killed in Batman Begins?" Yes, I am often surrounded by complete morons. But my favorite one was, "I thought Harvey Dent was black?"

I think because George Lucas did his Star Wars prequels that now every movie franchise featuring a younger cast immediately people are crying prequels instead of reboot.
