It seems that there alluding to it, with the inclusion of Felix who they killed off in a Licence to Kill and the fact they alluded to a bigger "organization" at work... One must consider the idea there going bring back Blofield, since they killed off as sort of a **** you to McClory and the whole lawsuit I believe. So are they bringing back the big B-Man?

I don't think that they're gonna actually bring SPECTRE back, blofield would seem kind of ridiculous now with Austin Powers trumping him horribly, but I do think it would be sweet to see another crime organization develop over time in the newer Bond movies. That would be pretty sweet.

The blofeld of the books is nothing like the blofeld of the movies, so If they wanted to they could bring him back without making a joke out of it

One of the things I was keeping my fingers crossed with was that they would make Le Chiffre banker for 'a larger organization' rather than an independent money-man, so I was VERY pleased to find out that they maintained that part from the book/saga of Bond.

Will it be Blofield/SPECTRE/SMERSH? doubt it- I don't think I want it to be either... BUT they showed with the few villians they had from the organization that they can still have different characters replace but still convey those same archetypes.

Casino Royale= Good ****... this is one of the dorkiest/most overused things I've said in a while, but I'm psyched to see them go all "wrath of khan" on the sequel. As long as they make the sequel dark and character-based, bring it on (although, since the sequel was written this past spring/summer, I hope it continues Bond's character evolution... a little skeptical it may not be character-based)

I personally don't want S.P.E.C.T.R.E back. The name alone sounds too 'cold warish'. The Mr.White crime orginazation is undoubtably the new era Bond's version of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. It'll be interesting to see where they take it with Bond 22. We don't need Blofield back, leave him in the past.

It would be cool to see an updated Dr.No villan though......

I wonder what the "code-names" for the villians are... if they're going with colors (a la Mr. White) instead of numbers. Wonder what 'color' Le Chiffre was too... the more I'm thinking about the movie the more I love it

That's the impact a 'truly good' movie. It has you thinking about it days after you've seen it.....

Felix wasn't killed off in A LICENSE TO KILL. Watch it again.

Yeah, he just lost his leg but was still alive.

Ah I always assume he was killed off because we never seen him again. It'd still be cool to have a huge organization undercover, I heard on another board that this is the beginning of a planned trilogy of Bond films... Interesting...

I don't know if this is still the case but the reason Blofeld and Spectre haven't been directly mentioned since 'Diamonds are Forever' was a copyright dispute over Thunderball, the rights for which reverted back to someone Fleming had apparently borrowed too much of the story from when he wrote the novel.
As the Thunderball novel introduced 'Spectre' this stopped the Broccoli produced films from using them again (though they did show Roger Moore kill an obvious Blofeld type at the start of "For your Eyes Only")

It was also this dispute that enabled a different film company (Sony?) to make "Never Say never Again", bringing back Connery to make an effective re-make of Thunderball.

If that dispute is over with though he could be bought back again, if not then I guess Smersh is the next best option.

Edited to add: Just done a quick google search on the dispute and apparently Sony now own MGM (which was news to me at any rate) and there wouldn't be any rights issues if they ever do want to bring Blofeld & Spectre back.

LOL !!..............you do realise it will be #22 next ?!

Read the book, guys. The organization isn't SPECTRE. It is SMERSH! SPECTRE and Blofeld only appeared like in 3 books but in the movie world his role was expanded into like 6 movies.

So, I think they're gonna introduce SMERSH which was Bond's first evil organization that he had to defeat.

I think they mean trilogy as in 3 films where the stories are directly connected to each other rather than the more standalone nature of just about every other Bond film (ie: from what Eva Green has said the apparently captive boyfriend of her character in CS may be set up as the villain in the next movie).

I think something CR did really really well.....which is what Batman Begins did as well......was leaving the door open to so many GREAT options. They can take the franchise in a number of directions that have fantastic potential......it's great.

^If we've learned anything from the Bond franchise it is that the more serious films are almost always followed by the silliest or a more light-hearted flick.

Russia > Goldfinger
OHMSS > Diamonds
FYEO > Octopussy
GoldenEye > Tomorrow

True......but, I think there's something different this time around. Something tells me that it won't happen.

Plus...this film was probably.....and don't hold me to this really....but probably the most serious Bond interepretation ever.....I sure someone could argue that, but it's a pretty damn serious film....so even if the next one is light hearted, it might still be dark compared to the rest.

Tommorrow>Goldeneye :) Serious is not always better :o

Blofeld coming back is pointless and stupid.
No remakes. At this point, they need to either do books that haven't been movies yet, or make up their own stories.

People always say that but it never turns out that way. Yeah, we all loved Casino Royale but you and they know that deep down you want a classic Bond film.

So, in Bond 22 expect to see Q, gadgets, Miss Moneypenny, etc etc etc.

Blofeld is not coming back. No one said that. It's a stupid assumption people are making. The organization that may show up in the next one is SMERSH not SPECTER.

Cool, cool.

To begin with, do they even own Blofeld? I think Kevin McGlory may still own him or atleast a portion of him. Secondly, Blofeld/SPECTER appeared in 6 (7 if you count FYEO) movies. While he only appeared in three books which has become known as the Blofeld trilogy:

Thunderball
OHMSS
YOLT

While, SMERSH, the original organization that Bond went after have never been featured in the movies. So, I guess, thats the direction they're heading at.

Actually to all those saying BLofield shouldn't be brought back, I'm watching Thunderball... He's kick ass reguardless of whether Austin Powers makes fun of him or not. He could easily be brought back, or they could easily put it something similar, either way it's coming. A mastermind behind the scenes that we don't see, whether he called Blofield or not, it's going be the same arch-type. Which is the point of the thread, so it's not a stupid assumption, i mean it's pretty ridiculous if we're seriously just talking about a name change. But simply an organization with a shadow leader, does it really matter if it's called Spectre or Smersh, it all ends up being the same relatively.
