Gidget is Coming Back
Source: Variety May 18, 2010

Pterodactyl Prods. and 300 producer Mark Canton are teaming to bring sun and surf icon Gidget back to film and TV for the first time in more than two decades, and will update the Malibu heroine for the new millennium, reports Variety.

Pterodactyl's Barney Cohen ("Sabrina the Teenage Witch") signed a deal with licensor Gidget Worldwide to develop the property for the big screen and small screen.

Launched in a 1957 novel, Gidget spawned several movies, TV series and telepics, and launched the careers of Sandra Dee and Sally Field. "The New Gidget," which aired from 1987-88, marked the most recent screen outing for the can-do surfer girl.

Because if there's any old movie/tv series that will definitely translate well to the 21st century.... it's Gidget.

Whenever I see Gidget, I keep thinking of Widget for some reason

i think of the purple alien cartoon show from the early 90s.

I watched a couple of these recently. What was the appeal? Those movies were boring.

BRING BACK THE FLYING NUN!

They'll update it obviously. They still do the wacky surf thing in Cali, Texas and Miami.

I entered expecting to read about gremlins 3 then realized I confused gidget with gizmo.

So would there be a Sally Field cameo?

I could see it working if they do the "Brady Bunch Movie" approach...make it a fish-out-of-water scenario about a 60s beach chick getting by in this decade. But at the end of the day, who gives a **** about Gidget?

I'm all for them trying. I'm a fan of those old beach movies. Gidget, Muscle Beach Party, Beach Blanket Bingo, it's all good fun.
