Comics Is Colosuss......?

Check out the rest of the thread, buddy. We're talking about a version of Colossus in an alternate universe.

Still. That is like stating in an alternate universe Hulk is Blue.

Maybe I am wrong, but the irony of an alternate lifestyle in an alternate universe is just too much for me.

Why do it there?

Because the Ultimate line is supposed to be very similar but have some minor and major differences. The Ultimate line would suck if they didn't make drastic changes like that. Colossus being gay changes things big time, when you look at the long run, Kitty and him will never be more than friends. Because of that Kitty is dating Spider-Man and Colossus is dating Northstar.
Its a big differnce but hopefully Kitty and Colossus become best friends in the Ultimate universe, to show that they have a universal connection, no matter what there sexual orientation is.

K. Whatever ... :whatever:

You probably dont like What If comics, or comics like AoA, since they are different, by your logic whats the point.

Uhmmm ... I love Elseworlds because they approach a story from the perspective of taking a character and changing some fundamental event or premise. Marvel doing this is completely different my friend. Completely.

Sometimes its a fundamental event that might cause somebody to be homosexual.

In your mind.

Yes. In my mind. In my mind Marvel continues to prove they are second rate because they pull stuff like "Ultimate" and job it. They have great characters and have writers start things and then have other writers completely screw it up.

They tell the writers to change their ideas like the clone saga and completely destroy a fan base.

It's just my mind ...

Well writers cant stay on the same comic for ever.

And in my mind DC is second rate, they dont take chances, they dont wanna mess with there statis quo. And DC jobs it by retconnig ****, and saying its okay cause it happened because of crisis. They would never have the balls to make an alternate reality where one of there most popular characters was gay. If Marvel never started the Ultimate line, then DC would never have come out with the All Star line. Apperently you dont like the Ultimate Line, dont buy it, stick with the 616 continuity, or just stick with boring old DC.

I believe that Elseworlds has existed for years before Ultimate ... Howard Mackie himself said that Marvel F**Ked up the clone saga ... oh never mind.

Did you know that DC tackled drug use and stepped away from the code? They did it in continuity and dealt with it straight on.

While DC retcons the crap out of stuff, so does Marvel. They just do it in motion ... ie ... Hulk can breathe underwater now ...

My issue is not whether he is gay or straight or Bi. If you are going to do a story like that ... do it right.

Elseworld is not the same as Ultimate. Ultimate is the same constant universe, Elseworlds are various universe that dont even really exist since DC doesnt have a multiverse. The Ultimate Universe really exists in the Marvel Multiverse. What If is closer to Elseworlds than the Ultimate line, and What If's have been around for a while, DC does have 20 years on Marvel so hopefully they'de have something original. What the hell does the clone saga have to do with this. Drug use has nothing to do with there statis quo, it is a risk, but not that big since america as a country has tried to target drug use for about 50 years now, the majority of America wants people to stay away from drugs, its not a riskiny subject to deal with, homosexuality is still a tough subject to deal with, even in todays society. Hulk can breath cause certain forms of the Hulk can adapt and do different things, thats not a retcon. One day Superman has super intelligence than Crisis on Infinite Earth happens, next its gone, than DC decides that he needs it back so they give it back to him in Infinite Crisis. All of a sudden Jason Todd is alive cause Superboy Prime throws a fit, RIGHT. DC crisis are just an excuse to retcon stuff, Thats what they did in the first one, they kept all the characters they liked from each universe and threw them together. How is Marvel not doing it right? cause hes straight in the 616.

Exactly. He is straight in 616. 'Nuff Said.

Ah. And there's the rub.

How did they do it wrong?

Yes and in origianl DC continuity, Superman could only leap tall buildings.
In normal DC continuity Superman landed in America, not Russia like Red Sun. Thats the same as 616 Colossus being str8t, and Ult Colossus being Gay.

I guess I am seeing how certain publishers are doing things that are controversial for all the wrong reasons.

Marvel is not alone in this, don't get me wrong.

I guess if you were going to have a character be gay or straight, and the story was to help people gain insight or understanding, like the DC story on drugs with Green Lantern/Green Arrow ... you do it with a popular character. In a way that shows the story is the subject, not the "issue" per se.

I am so tired of reading stuff here and in the paper where people slam religious people, homosexuality and everything in between.

If Marvel wanted to address homosexuality and to create awareness or understanding ... make it a character that counts and make it that way from the beginning or develop it in a way that shows what homosexuals go through and what they struggle with if they want to "come out."

Doing it with Colossus in an alternate reality blows. It just smacks of sleazy writing ...

A character's abilities being retconned and their sexual orientation are not the same thing ... at all.

Colossus is a character that counts, he is very popular, probably as well known as Green Lantern and probably more popular than Green Arrow. Colossus is also a good character to use, it shows that not all gay people are flamboyant feminine lisp talking gay guys. They have showed what gay people have to go through, Nightcrawler was one of Colossus's best friends until he found out he was gay. And this alternate reality is the reality that calls out to new readers not familiar with 40 years of Marvel continuity, its not a what if-one shot universe, its a universe that might last 40 years on its own. Your tired of people slamming homosexuality, religion, etc... but you are the one bashing Marvel for making Colossus gay.

No there not, but for the topic of retconning they are.

Actually I am bashing Marvel for how they have approached this. Please do not put words in my mouth. And Colossus now and Green Arrow / Green Lantern when the story about Drugs broke in the 70's. Sorry. Not close.

If this "issue" mattered to Marvel and was more than a ploy to increase sales or create controversy .... it would be a Major character. If colossus is so well known, why did he play such a minor role in all three X-movies?

Dude. I know you love Marvel and all but really. Read what I have posted more carefully. I am not bashing them about "making" him gay. I started reading the thread because I didn't want to believe that Marvel could screw this up ... AND they did.

Read my posts. I did not get personal with you. Read the one above this comment.

I am "Bashing" the poor writing ... not the issue.

Marvel has characters like that. Check out Anole from New X-Men. Karolina from Runaways. Hulkling and Wiccan from Young Avengers. Colossus isn't some sort of cop-out. They have characters who've been portrayed as gay from the very beginning, and have struggled with coming out of the closet. And these are new characters that are getting progressively more popular. And let's not forget Northstar, who's been out since the 1980s.

So what are you complaining about? One straight character being made gay in a single alternate universe?

It all comes down to personal opinion, I think its been good writing you dont, it's late so i'll agree to disagree. By the way I do read your posts thats why I respond to pretty much all your comments, if you read my posts you'd realize that.

Great examples that prove my complaint. Wolverine? Spiderman? who else could they choose? Do you get my point?
