I think Gambit is underrated.

He's a pretty good character yet he's been shut out the x-men movies. wtf?

Gambit is overrated, and in my opinion, isn't even that interesting.

Why?

Thats making a fact driven statement, without giving any facts.

He some theif, whose neich was "Oh look, he speaks French, and we might not be able to trust him, ooooh, cool coat."

As a character, he doesn't have much to him. Better then bobby perhaps he may be, Scott? I don't think there is much of a contest, considering Scott just has more to him as a character.

While Gambit is essentially "Look, I'm a playboy, and I' speak' wit' dis' broken accent cher."

But the combination of mystery, charm, thievery, and cool superpowers makes him a good character. Not a great character like Spider-man, but good nonetheless.

and he's not a playboy. He's a player. There's a difference. :p

He's not that mysterious anymore, it gets old. He's not that charming either, he just pretends to be, and his powers are only mildly cool.

Overrated, not underrated :P

Gambit is not overrated, and at this point in time he's not even 'rated. Years of ****ty writing have brought the character down. The Nicieza series was great and Gambit seemed to get new depths. He was funny, charming, dashing, you could easily warm up to him.
He was an antihero but not a bastard like Wolverine, and not a goody-to-shoes like Cyclops. I feel like Gambit got a lot of exposition in a short amount of time due to appearing in two series at the same time, his own solo, the cartoon show. The character right now is in a place where he needs to rediscover his roots. We had a chance with Milligan's Gambit solo series, but bad figures doomed that title.

Not a bastard like Wolverine. um, Mutant Massacre ring a freaking bell. Even if he didn't personally kill a single morlock he was instrimental in all of their deaths. The near death injuries incurred by Colossus, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler and Angel.

As a hero and a character he is over-rated.

Uhm. He didn't know what was going on and he had already paid for that mistake ten times over. How many times did you see Wolverine regretting the lives he's taken? I don't remember anybody dropping him in the Antarctic to die.

Gambit hasn't appeared in the movie, he barely appeared in X-men Evolution and he's about to go into limbo.
Somebody explain to me how he is overrated! Maybe he was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away but right now all that Gambit has are the hardcore fans and we are swallowin' copious amounts of s*** for him because we feel he's worth it. If that means he's overrated then fine, he's overrated.

But somebody better explain to me what Wolverine is in that case.

Wolverine is overexposed, not over-rated. And in my mind so is Spiderman, Batman and Superman.

Spiderman, Batman and Superman are flagships. They made DC and Marvel respectively, what they are today. They deserve the attention and the exposition.

Gambit isn't over-anything right now. He is only loved by his fans, and frankly I don't know how long that's going to last. Although, if by now we haven't stopped liking him despite some of the messy stories he has been involved in, I doubt we ever will.

Hell yeah Gambiitis underrated. He is more interesting than people than people think.

First of all. He speaks Cajun not French. Isn't cool that he has different way of talking than most character?

He is a complex character. Gambit isn't a traditional hero. He has done some bad things in his past (thievin' , the morlock massacre) His cocky attitude is just a mask because he doesn't really think of himself as a good person. He thinks fighting with the X-men is way of\paying for his sins. But this is why his personality is cool: he is debonair, charming, witty, flirty and just plain fun. You would never know that behind that personality hides a emotionally scarred man with many regrets.

His fighting style is way cool. Gambit plays head games with enemies, he confuses them, flirtswith them, let's them think he's weak just to get an advantage. Hence the name Gambit. He can even talk his way of a fight. I think his powers are cool too. He can turn any object into a bomb. You have to constantly watch his hands when you're fighting him or he'll charge up your pants and then you will go BOOM my friend.

back when he was the uber mysterious, possible future traitor on the team he was really cool. i think it was a genius move tying him to sinister and the morlock massacre, but i don't think it should've been revealed to the rest of the team. now he's just another one of the x-men, with little to him. he's taken for granted and he's become synonomous with rogue, they really just do everything together.

i think the move to have him join apocalypse was a good one, it gave him the proverbial kick in the pants he needed, though the execution was horrible by milligan and it ended up going nowhere.

my only hope is that in next issue they will reveal that sinister is gambits father. because it looks like they're strongly leaning to that.

Like somebody else said, he's not under or overrated, he's not rated at all. There was a time that I really enjoyed having Gambit on the X-Men. Now I'm just apathetic to him being there. These days they try and make him charming, in the past he was just plain charming.

Flagships they maybe. but considering that each character puts out atleast 3 books a week, toss in their random appearances and theirteam book, i would say that they are overexposed.

Spiderman = It appears that Spidey will be in about 12 issues/titles in the month of June. I would say that is overexposed.

Batman and Superman will be over 10issues the month of June as well. In my opinion that is overexposed.

As overexposed as i and most others say Wolverine is, he's in only 6 issues in June.

Thank you. This is what I was thinking when reading through this thread. If people bothered to learn about the real Gambit, they would see how complex he really is. When in the right hands, he is an amazing character. He is what got me into the comics.

And Wolverine is in the movie, and he's got a cartoon coming out, and there will be an X-men spin-off based on his character.
:)

I never liked Gambit. I hate the way he talks, I don't like his character or his powers. Comon, throwing cards at people!?

^ Thank you for the insigthful reply. You're on the debate team, aren't you?

Whats wrong with using cards as his explosives?

The thread's title makes for a great joke.

Underrated?Are you kidding me?He's a product of the 90s,of course he's overrated.

If anything, he's VASTLY overrated. He's only been around for about 15 years and people try to put him in the same league as Cyclops or Wolverine. He was a typical one-dimensional "badass" 90's creation. Yeah, I thought he was cool when I was eight, but anymore he's just irritating and useless.

He mightve been overrated a few years ago.Not so much now.

Are you like 50 or something? I guess you're 23, that would mean Gambit has been around for nearly 2 thirds of your life, and that's nothing to you?
I don't known if you've noticed this but you're not the only one that has changed. Gambit has grown as a character and he's no longer so one dimensional, not that I think he ever was. It's like Xavier says in Graduation Day
"How many times must a scoundrel prove himself a hero, before he starts believing it"
And he had just started believing it when Austen and Milligan messed with his character and turned him into some poor excuse of what he used to be. Of what he could be.
Gambit fans have been having a really ****ty year, and these talks about Gambit being overrated certainly don't help. It is just a cruel joke.
