On the other hand...
After this film's level of excellence in executing it's drama and characters with a wonderful level of depth I think the fandom has gone overboard now with it's expectations for the next installment. I mean, I know that there have been public pronouncements from the creators that lead many to (rightfully) assume that the stakes are high for the next film and that outcomes will be grim... But they also said some things about THIS movie that I would say turned out to be less that 100% accurate. In any case I now think that no... While the stakes will be dramatically high (or as high as they can be in a genre that relies on so much suspension of disbelief let's remember) the next film is the true capstone to ten years of the MCU. They will have dramatic endings to various plot threads that have been built up but now it's like the fanbase is going overboard with their predictions. If this movie was the "Two Towers/Empire Strikes Back" then, yeah, I think the next installment is Return of The Jedi/King.
Also, once more I have to put out there... There was such a big slice of the fansbase that poo-pooed the idea that this film would have death of characters (or that there would even be "the snap") saying in the lead up that such elements were "cheap" or cheezy and would negatively affect the film critically in some fashion. Seems actual depth of emotion and dealing with the characters as more than just the delivery system for gags and quips actually paid off. Who'd a thunk that?
