^ Yes, apparently.
I wasn't a fan of TF to begin with, I saw it because a lot of my friends were encouraging me to.
I went in fully expecting a mindless, fun experience because of the material and the Bay factor. But what I got in return was a mindless bore.
TF-2 is most likely going to offer more of the same and reap a huge profit (and spawn a third film). For the fans and Bay, Spielberg and studio execs -- it'll be a win-win.
^ So you're not a TF fan and you despised the movie. Why do you even bother coming here? That seems a little odd to me.
And don't jump down my throat. I'm just asking.
Oh, he will, haha.
In the gay kinda way.
No.... It IS pointless however to expect a script on the level of Godfather or Flags of our Fathers...
Seriously, If you guys are expecting a better screenplay stop kidding yourselves. It's a fun film that brings out the kid in us with mindless fun and action done in the best way possible. The Bay way!
QFT. I go to Batman and Bourne for my beautifully written summer movie awesomeness. I go to Transformers to be eight again.
But even Batman '89 was for the kids but it is as intelligent as Begins is...
Why not this movie then?
^ Batman '89 was definately not for kids.
'89 wasn't quite as "intelligent"/"deep" as BB, sorry. I like '89, but it just isn't the same kind of movie.
TF is a big, huge, CG fest summer blockbuster.
And I'm fine with that.
Yes, it is pointless to hope for a better script. They only took 2 years to make this movie, and it's a CGI-heavy film. What do you think they've spent most of their time on? Surely not the plot and dialogue. It's a braindead CGI action franchise that will make a ton of money because people want an escape from everyday life. They've got a proven formula with the first one. The only difference this time will be bigger robots, bigger explosions, and new locations. Let's hope Bay learns to pull the camera back this time so that the audience can see WTF is going on during the action scenes. If your movie's quality is supposedly all about the action, then the least you can do is allow the audience to tell what is going on in the action scenes. Nolan and Greengrass get a pass for the quick cut closeup cameras in their Batman and Bourne movies because usually they have interesting storytelling, whereas Bay doesn't even pretend to tell an interesting story.
Yes, we should close this thread then. Ask Bay about this, he'll laugh at you.
Hell, he could be watching us now and laughing at us. I'm laughing with you sir.
^^ LOVE HOW YOU GUYS MISS THE POINT OF THE THREAD..so going by you guys..were are suppose to love it...there can never be anyone who disagrees.....b.s. man...u loved it, there are some who have the right not to....stay out the thread if you dont agree with the threadstarter..simple as that
It's really lame that people use the excuse " It's supposed to be a fun action- c.g. fest summer blockbuster, don't expect good writing!" Why lower your own standards and expectations when you go see a movie? There are excellent writers and directors out there that can come up with good dialogue and plots for action-ficiton, Bay and his team are just not capable of doing this. I think the reason most of us come to the transformers thread and "badmouth it" is because we do like the transformers, and we know what kind of movies these could have been. What if the Shumaker batman movies had come out before the 89 batman? I bet people would be saying the same thing, "It's kid stuff! It's supposed to be cheesy and over the top, what do you want, the Godfather?!"
Again, you just got your hopes up WAY to high for something you should have seen coming for miles away. I dont enjoy Micheal Bay movies that much, but I love Transformers, and didn't expect much from him. When I found out that he was producing, I didn't think it was going to be something "amazing", and I actually came out the theater surprised that it was on par with what I remember Transformers being as a kid(ie. stupid, fun, action, comedy).
Did you actually think Bay was going to have an "air-tight" script with loads of backstory and amazing character dialogue? I'm not "defending" TF 2007 as an amazing movie, but one in which if you're that upset about it, then you should've had as much common sense to see it coming before you even saw it. Same goes with the sequel, and AGAIN, with your initial question.
When I say, "good god" or "I swear", it is more implying of your lack of common sense, to acknowledge that a mediocre action-director is taking the helm of Transformers, which if I had to put my money on it, would mean that the acting will be semi good and the action will be everywhere. Which is basically what we got, and we'll get again.
Its like being at a poker table, and having someone ***** and moan that he lost his hand, when all he had was 7-2 off suit. Maybe they shouldn't have bet any money, cause they should have known thats a HORRIBLE hand. If not, then they're just a donkey.
Maybe you're standards and expectations are too high. Did that ever occur to you?
When it comes to movies, for me, as long as there are hot chicks, cool cars and stuff being blown up than I'm happy. t:
that's you...doesn't mean the rest of us have to look at movies that way, nor does it make the rest of us wrong for point ing out a poor attempt at entertainment.
Where did I say anyone had to agree with me? Read my post again. I said 'for me'. I was talking about myself and no-one else. I don't give a damn what you do and I'm not going to tell you you're wrong because an opinion can be, neither, wrong nor right.
Ignore the first sentence. That was just me stirring.
The superbowl spot for TRANSFORMERS blew me away...
Also, the tone looks considerably darker...
Very serious and morbid alien film...
Hell when Shia shouted, "Just go!!" ... I didn't laugh and I think that is a plus...
Also, the camera seems pulled a bio back this time... LE GASP!
All good, lets hope Bay comes through...
I think he will.
It's easy really.... remove the obnoxious stereotypical black characters.... make the high school scenes sincere (like in SPIDER-MAN)... pull the camera back a wee bit and there ya go!!! Presentation can make a world of difference...
I also hope for more autobot and decpticon character building such as...
Jetfire (looking at Lennox): Why do you trust them so much Prime?
Optimus: The humans? They have proven their worth...
Jetfire: I'm an old war-horse... I see fear in their eyes... lack of confidence
Optimus: I see hope and guts... and I trust them. But do you trust me?
*cue crazy whiz bang action scene*
^ There'll be no high school scenes. Sam and Mikaela will be in College. t:
I hate Spider-Man.
Don't worry, Spider-Man hates you too.
I knew that Bay was not a great story-film director and that scripts generally suffer under his direction (that's why I complained about him directing TF back when it was first announced), but again, my focus in this thread is the writing and dialog, not so much Bay's directing.
The first half of the Bay-directed The Island wasn't bad at all in terms of script and characterization, so it is at least possible for Bay to work with decent material.
And before you say that The Island wasn't "for kids" or "based on a cartoon", I'm just using it as an example of Bay showing at least a little restraint and letting some decent dialog slip in before cutting loose with the Baysplosions.
Well, at least you can admit it.
We like what we like of course.
