Is Kevin Feige the New Tom Rothman?

Marvel has made it very clear that these characters have years and years of history behind them....any actor (regardless of who it is) has to acknowledge and respect that...I think if RDJ asked to make a change, Marvel would listen and maybe accomodate him, bot Norton expected to be allowed to make changes and got all out of sorts when Marvel said no

for years, we, as fans, wanted the companies that created these books to have control over what goes on screen...now that has happened and people are still complaining?


Whedon is the director....directors, in most films, will make some changes to the script

If Marvel didnt want him to take a stab at the script why did they let him. In fact the director of TIH loved the changes Norton made to the script.
What this all boils down to is Norton and the director wanted a longer cut of the movie and Marvel said no. Had Rothman done the same the collective fanbois would be trying to burn Fox to the ground.

fair enough....I tend to look at the situation itself and go from there....I will give Marvel Studios a bit more leeway because its the actual company that puts out the source material as opposed to a studio that just optioned it for a movie

The duo was quizzed on the negative fan reaction to Wolverine and talked more about their next mutant related movie, X-Men: First ClassOn The Negative Reactions To X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

Jim Gianopulos: "We're proud of the film and we're proud of Hugh Jackman's work in the film. I think one of the things that has always been a balancing act in the X-Men universe is we have this wonderful base of fans that are deeply immersed in the heritage of these characters, and then we have the civilians. And you have to make the property accessible to people who haven't experienced it. So you need to make certain adaptations, creatively, in order to open up the property a little bit. And that's where I think the fans feel that we missed a turn some place."

On What To Expect From X-Men: First Class:

Tom Rothman: "X-Men: First Class was Bryan Singer's idea and Matthew Vaughn has started directing it. Firstly, it's about the foundation of the friendship between Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr and then eventually the evolution of the split between Professor X and Magneto. In many ways it's bigger than we may have been before in the X-films because it's global - it goes all around the world in it's natural story evolution."

Howard & Norton were probably being *****es. Cheadle was better as Rhodey anyway, but I will miss Norton.

Seeing as how they got Jackson for like 9 movies you can't really use him as an example. But, I have to agree lowballing Rourke & Favreau is f***ed up though.

Whatever. He's lucky Avatar made it big, that pretty much saved his job after Fox was releasing flop after flop.

I don't really think Feige's done anything wrong. Fans simply only like to look at it from one perspective. I really like Favreau but Favreau has said some weird stuff too.

The quality of the movies especially say the Fantastic Four films is why we as fans take issue with Rothman.

The quality of the movies is also the reason why I take issue with some of the decisions Marvel has made, but just from a different perspective. Not because the movies are crap, but because it's annoying that they as a studio could strike it out of the park at every turn, and we could have had a sequel up there with TDK in IM2 if JF had been given 3yrs. I would say the first 30/40mins are as good as TDK, but the rest you can tell was rushed and less ambitious due to time constraints.
Same with the Hulk movie, I would have liked the version the director and Norton originally wanted, hell, i would have liked a version with the origin played out again, instead of just being crammed into the credits.

I'm happy with th job Feige has done thus far. Rothman on the other hand has signed off on way too much deviation from the source material for my taste. Some if not most of the changes made we're unnecessary if you ask me.

Yeah I agree with this. X3 basically pissed on some of the main characters like Cyclops, and it was done with such disdain from the studio it was sickening. Also the way the Dark Phoenix story was almost an afterthought.

I also agree about Fiege. He's got to keep a budget. While I thought he mishandled the Norton situation from a PR perspective, if he wasn't willing to pay Norton as much as he wanted, that's just part of the business.

Rothman is doing things such as holding up projects like Silver Surfer because his mismanagement caused the death of the FF movies. And then killing X3 and Wolverine to the point where I believe X-men first class is almost bound to fail.

Rothman is not interfering as much as he used to, and Fox are opening up the time frames for movies and giving them decent budgets.
XMFC has a very good chance of being the best X-Men movie yet, going by Vaughn's work on KA.
