I've read interviews with Kenichi Sonoda where he describes Rally as Indian. I've found via google pages that say she's Native American, but I'm not sure they are definitive. Any ideas on weather she's East Indian or Native American?

East Indian not Native American. Half Indian at least. Her father was Indian and her mother was British.

It's never been actually stated that her father was Hindu... the last name Vincent tends to Indicate otherwise, though it is possible that he could be only part East Indian Himself and the British surname dates back to the British colonization.

I've got the impression that Mister V was at least second generation American, probably more. There was no indication of any Indian culture associated with him. Being an gun enthusiast seems more consistent with a Native American background all though obviously that doesn't mean that East Indians can't be gun nuts too.
This web site states that Rally is half Native American, but since it doesn't state sources I'm not sure it's definitive.

Konichi Sonoda inteview only say "Indian." As a Japanese Native Sonoda might not think Indiana=Native American, the way Americans do, but it the interview wasn't in English, the choice of terms could be the translator's.

I would have to see if he shaves in the story since most Native Americans don't grow much in the way of facial hair, but even that would be absolute proof since some tribes on the west coast do have facial hair.

Well, you may be right that it was never explicitly stated as East Indian and I'm not going to take the time to search through everything because I wasn't a huge fan of the series.

I've always assumed it was East Indian because it seems much more likely for an East Indian to get together with an English woman and have a child in London than it does for a Native American to. There aren't exactly a lot of Native Americans in England, but there are a lot of East Indians.

In a series where we have a former child prostitute who is of legal age now but still looks like she's in grade school, I'm not sure being likely is much of a determinant. :D

Huh, wait, wasn't Rally's dad a Pakistani?

Uhmmm, who the f**k is Rally Vincent?

You know, using Google isn't that hard.

I watched lots of episodes of DBZ, actually.

Seriously, though, what differentiates her from other anime chicks besides her hair? Big eyes, big boobs, triangle nose, tiny line for a mouth, not really a particularly Indian or Native American skin tone, judging from that cover...

Those complaint are fairly similar to things I've heard about American comics. The character's hairstyle and looks are fairly distinctive. She's also a lot skinnier than most manga characters.

Oh, I agree completely, there are plenty of American comic artists who draw identical women except for hair and costumes. I'm just confused about what indicated Rally was Indian or Native American or whatever. She doesn't really have anything to distinguish her as such that I can see.

The writer Konichi Sonoda stated she is Indiana in an interview. I've seen some places where that is interpreted as Native American, and others as East Indiana. I know Bean Bandit is Native America. There was nothing really substantial that would make me think that Rally's father was from India. Since Rally inherited her gun shop from her father, he must have been in the US long enough to learn the skills for gun smithing. Since he is unlikely to have gained these skills in India or England it's seems likely that he's either a Native American or an East Indiana who grew up in the United States.
