My man DACrowe speaks the damn truth on this Scott/James Marsden matter.

He only took Superman because Fox was lazy in getting X3 prepped and ready. By the time Marsden was well into Superman, Fox still didn't have any type of lock on what direction they wanted to go on with story of X3.

I hate the excuse they use about SR, it isn't like James has a leading role, they just screwed him over.

I agree. I'm not into studio politics, but they do happen. This time, it's so blanant that Fox screwed Cyclops, it's not funny. NOt only does he die, he doesn't get any sympathy from anyone..not Storm or Xavier..

Yes, they did screw him over.

I mean, remember during the production of Superman Returns, Marsden basically begged that he still wanted to be apart of X3 and said he'd do the role "for free."

Again, Fox had nothing in place. Of course, he was going to do another role. The guy has a family to support. He has to keep his name out here.

And because he and Bryan are great friends, of course Bryan was going to offer him something since it looked like they weren't going to bring him back.

I think he is to blame as well.

He destroyed the character of Cyclops in the first two movies and could have tried to work out a better schedule to allow James more time on X3. If Jimmy isn't a MAJOR character in Superman, I will be pissed!

Singer misrepresentation of the character in X1 and X2 basically destroyed cyclops, I had non-comic book friends who wanted cyclops dead before this movie came out, stating he was usless and getting in the way of things being done. face it guys the first X-movies were Wolverine and the X-men, plain and simple and it was Singers choice to write and direct it that way. cyclops is the most abused X-character in the movie franchise due to Singer inital misuse of him.

He was developing the character, something X3 lacks.
what character development, other than the fact that he couldn't lead his team and he knows how to cry for a very long time.

Please . . . he led his team fine in X-Men. Where exactly was a pre-Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Cyclops supposed to be? Give me a break. Nightcrawler and Beast are two of the most beloved characters within in the films and neither one needed previous in depth development in order to make them favorites. The same could have been done just as easily with Cyclops, if the studio would have given him the time, especially given that now more than ever, this was his storyline. I'm not buying this b.s. that he had to have an immensely large role in the previous films in order for his character to matter, Beast and Nightcrawler certainly didn't.

It would have been better if Bryan had Scott leave the X-Men for good at the end of X2.

However, no situation is ever perfect... Everyone did well with what little Fox gave them to work with (actor, director, writers).
