I think the character will stagnate. It's just the same old thing, character ages, things get erased, same old thing in a new package, character ages, things get erased, same old thing in a new package and repeat.

And who's to say that character growth and change won't occur... Spider-Man comics have always been about change, and you're narrow-minded belief doesn't exactly convince that things will stay the same. You claim that they want Spidey like he was back in the 70's (or closer to his roots), but yet you say that the 70's had change? Make up your mind... if things are like they were, then change will be forthcoming.

You can have character growth and change without necessarily "aging" the character, which is what I believe will bethe focus on Peter Parker for the foreseeable future. It's not as black & white as your limited a) & b) options, but you have obviously made up your mind about what's forthcoming that tehre's really no sense in talking sensible to you.

Cheers...

:yay:

You call him narrow minded, because there will be change again? Yes this may be and when it gets too far that Marvel's lazy writers feel too cornered or having gone too far they will rewind just as they did with OMD and that will not happen for a while as they don't want him to grow for a long while.

In short, I don't think you have the right to call the OP narrow minded.

Anyway, he already has been turned stagnate and you can bet your ass that at least not until JOey Q is gone will it change.

That's cool... it's your opinion... I respect that... and I still stand by mine.

Read the Amazing Spider-Girl, and that's the kind of story you're going to get... :word:

Preach on!!

Why is it that so many people want to rea about a married Spider-Man with a child that is carrying on the Parker/Spider-Man legacy, and yet, so FEW people read Spider-Girl?! It's THE BEST Spider-book out there...and has been for years.

"Going to"?

He has been for the last ten years.

That's why you see all these reboots and relaunches (clone-saga, chapter one/new volume, brand new day, etc). They're trying to revive the magic, but all the wizards suck.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but it's because it's not about Peter and I don't like Peter with a beard! :oldrazz: When I read a Spider-man book, I want it to be about HIM. But I know a lot of people love Spider-Girl and I wish the book success, truly.

So true. I pick up the trades, so I'm not figured into those monthly sales numbers as one ASG's readers. I just hope there are enough people that pick up the ASG trades to keep the title alive for a long time because it would be a shame if the title were ever closed down permanently.

616 Spider-man is stagnating because writers don't know what to do with him, married or not. What do we get from BND?
Another unoriginal goblin with the unoriginal goblin mystery.
A copy-pasta Liz Allen.
A copy-pasta JJJ, or at least that's what Gale turned him into.
The retcon of Harry Osborn's death. (Seriously, what is it with Spidey writers and retconning spectacular death scenes like Aunt May, Norman, and now this?)
A Black Cat that has horrible fashion sense. (Logic of the spidey-writers, if you run out of ideas for the love interest of spidey, either turn them into a super hero or retcon their character development. Or hell, do both. And yes, I know we don't know who Jack Pot is currently, but it would be pretty ******ed for it not to be MJ in all honesty)
A villain that has no set character design, and is frankly horrible despite that. Cough Freak cough. Besides which his back story is way too M-rated for Spider-man. Why do writers always introduce this sense of a dark element to Spider-man when that goes completely against the nature of his stories.(And yes, I know Harry was a drug addict, but that was to promote a story to raise public awareness against drugs. One of those after school special type things)
... That's it./rant

Sorry, but you are wrong on a few levels. Especially the dark thing. Look at his bloody origin... Very few pages, with one of the most depressing endings in comics full stop.

Why do you think Stan picked Ditko over Kirby? Stan's actual words were that Kirby was to clean for the approach, and the full on inspiration was the early Batman issues. But rather than having a Bruce character feeling guilty, they wanted to actually make Peter the one who was ACTUALLY guilty. Look at the panel of where Peter unmasks the burglar... It's very clearly a homage to the same panel where you see a young Bruce crying over his parents murder. (Which in turn was kinda 'swiped,' visually by the Phantom's origin.) Brush up on your comic history, it's kind of famous how Stan broke the mold and ignored the comics code and all...

Seriously, brush up. Stan was invited to do lectures all over America as Spidey/Hulk etc. were so cutting edge. They may read as quaint right now, but in those days it didn't read like that. It was counter culture. In fact, in the early 60's, Esquire magazine did a survey among college students that revealed that self styled radicals chose Spidey and the Hulk alongside their favourite revolutionary icons such as Che Guevera and Bob Dylan.

Like the public was going to make fuss over a happy clean super hero story in the 60's when the general public frowned upon comics
