Is the USA a pseudo-fascist state? (Police constantly abusing people)

Gladly to explain. As I have stated in the past there are some things that are feasible for the average citizen to do.

1. don't vote or support any politician/political party
2. turn off your TV
3. don't join the army
4. avoid credit card and loans
5. grow as much as possible your own food
6. don't consume like a maniac shiny things you don't really need
7. limit your family's cars to one and use a bike
8. get involved with open source projects and community stuff

Those come to my mind right now. It might not seem like it is something, but that's what we can do and if it happens in a global scale, then the establishment will lose much of its power and wealth.

And doing this stuff will lead to some sort of Utopia? Where's the study that indicates this or is this something you came up with? It all sounds a bit paranoid and tin foil hat-ish.

Not a utopia, and while his tone may seem vaguely conspiratorial I agree with his sentiments. The human race in general doesn't really have respect for how exactly it is that we live in contemporary society, we've expanded and innovated so much in the last century our progress is too much for us to comprehend in the time period it happens in.

His points relate to very basic concepts, spend less, sustain more, be less dependent on the state to govern you, pay attention to how cyclical consumer society is, attempt to decrease your carbon footprint. They're all things people in general should be aiming for, a lot of aspects of modern society are incredibly unhealthy physically and psychologically.

Unfortunately a lot of people are really too distracted by this circus we live in to realize just how far we've strayed.

Actually paranoid is doing the exactly opposite of those things, just like the majority does today. I didn't say this will lead to some sort of Utopia. It will just make people a bit more independent from the grip of the system and many corporations that have a negative effect on our environment will lose a big chunk of money.

Yeah, but the likelihood of people doing what he suggests on a mass scale is microscopic. People are consumers and want instant gratification. I doubt it's going to change any time soon.

Haven't read any of the Cthulhu stories yet. Is that the actual plot from one of them?

The Dunwich Horror is pretty creepy. And Pickman's Model...even better is "The Great God Pan", which inspired Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror. Recommended!
Not a plot but it's along the lines of what Cthulhu and his eldritch bunch do to humans. Mostly drive people insane and are worshipped as if they were gods (they are referred to as old gods but Lovecraft never specifically states they are).

Cosmic horrors is the theme here and nothing is more horrific than being forced to sing Bieber songs. :funny:

Then the world at large will pay the price. Mathematically and logically if people do not curb their behaviours soon the global population will be very much at risk. I think it's the WHO that predicts a food shortage by 2050, i.e literally not enough food for the entire world to consume. Not the way there is poverty now and people can't afford food, but that there physically won't be enough food. All our so called civility will disappear quicker than an iPhone's battery runs out when we are physically competing for resources again.

It's not tinfoil hattish, it's just how it will be. There are too many people, and we make all the wrong choices.

The sad part is right now we have all the resources and means at our disposal to do the right things, but humanity as a whole won't make the difficult decisions until the eleventh hour.

So, why do this? I mean, if you're okay with someone watching a film online, then what's the problem watching the same content on a TV?

Well, if people keep talking about those things through the internet the sooner it will happen a reality and I don't care if I am not alive until then. I'd like to grow old and die thinking that I contributed for a better world for our children and grand children.

People are consumers and want instant gratification

There was a day when societies were conditioned to burn alive other people for witchcraft and that was a normality and they thought that would never change.
Or in ancient Rome with the gladiators and the christians being fed to the lions.
The same applies to today's world. Things seem impossible to change, but once an idea is expanded and talked about then change is a mathematical certainty.

He's talking about the concept. We're a mass media consuming society, and ironically because we can't experience even a tenth of what we see or hear about we use heuristics and stereotyping to make decisions. Television culture is cancerous, it's a travesty.

They say that about every form of entertainment though. Dancing is still considered a travesty in some subcultures.

I fear we will end up with a scenario similar to Elysium :csad:

You mean where in the end everyone gets free health care and practical immortality? I'm all for that.

For the reasons that Dead Pres said and the fact that major tv networks get a lot of money from you when watching tv. Isn't that how it goes in the US?
Damn, it seems I have gotten a bad reputation among women here in SHH. I attract much criticism from them :csad:

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure you also snagged the male demographic too. No need to single out the women. :oldrazz:

No. that would be the ideal thing
I am talking about the part in the movie before that happens.

I shouldn't, but I'll entertain you, since I'm not arguing to be a prick or because I subjectively believe I'm right or out of any sense of ego. Objectively, you can't compare something like a harmless form of physical exertion to the concept of a show like Jerry Springer or Honey Boo-Boo where we consume, ridicule and perpetuate dangerous and maladaptive behaviours that masquerade as entertainment. We watch talk shows exploiting someone else's pain, televise court proceedings while the public bays for someone's blood and discuss wars from our arm chairs like they're drawings in a kid's sketchbook. In reality, how far are we really from the savages watching public hangings and behaving like philistines?

Some of the most banal, everyday things that we've come to accept so passively are literally the things pulling society apart.

Exactly.

The consumerism may be good for economy but has a devastating effect on environment.
