BvS Is This As Bad As I'm Hearing It Is?

There's a lot of people in this thread that misunderstand how rottentomatoes works.

29% is not a score, it's a ratio. It doesn't make sense to say it 'deserves higher.'

The average score on rottentomatoes is 5/10.

Yeah, people look at it as a score. But i think what they mean is that the movie doesn't deserve so many negative reviews.

As in is this worse than Fantastic Four was?

Absolutely not. Keep your expectations in check and have a neutral mindset towards it. Some of the people I talked to today were pleasantly surprised and a few outright enjoyed it. I didn't get a feeling of animosity from other audience members after I went to a showing last night.

It does have a lot going on, so the narrative is a bit of a mess, but I found it mostly easy to follow. And as someone else mentioned, Snyder takes some liberties with characters that will anger some people.

But go into it with an open mind. If you like it, fine. If you hate it, fine. Don't let anyone else sway you otherwise.

I honestly don't even know anymore. Loved it on my out of the theater, but after letting everything sink in, it's fallen to a shaky 6/10 for me.

Disappointed it wasn't great. Very glad that it was good. IMO it is a three hour movie that was whittled down by thirty minutes because WB wanted more screenings. If you can accept that then you will like it. If you can't then you won't.

Yes. It deserved a lower rating. If you want to keep in the conversation see it and form your own opinion, but my God, your imagination cannot comprehend how much worse it really is. It will exceed your expectations in terms of its badness. That was my biggest surprise. I knew it was bad going in. But seeing HOW it's so bad was something else.

If you are hesitant, don't go see it. I don't care if it's Batman and Superman, I don't see them in this movie anyway to want to go see them.

Worth the price of admission. There are some great action sequences and some very cinematic moments. I'd say its like watching MOS on steroids with more brooding. I won't go see it again but I don't think it was a bad investment.

I'll probably DVR it if it comes on HBO.

No it's not bad at all.

Acting and screenplay were top notch.

F4, GL, Ghost Rider, Elektra, and Catwoman are bad movies. They will all win Razzies.

This movie is not like that, the critics put it on that category because it's a BVS movie. It has a high standard.

And it did not go to the way it was expected. It was suppose to be an Epic Avenger kind of move.

It's not an Avengers type movie.

But it's still great on a different kind of movie. But I see why the critics hated it.

Snyder gave them a movie this reality deserves and not the movie they wanted.

Ehhh. I think this might be Razzie nominated.... oh god.

I'm so happy that Marvel fans aren't belittling us right now. It makes sense. They are so fat by eating slices of that MCU pie each year that they can't move.

I have not seen the film.
But do not believe it is as bad as you think it is unless you come out of the theatre believing that.
Go in with an open mind and you might enjoy it.

Every person is different.

I went in the theater with an open mind, reserved expectations, and a baggage of good will.

I left the theater with a headache, deflated faith on Snyder's JL, and a missing baggage.

The movie is probably just missing 2 scenes being extended that I think would absolutely change the overall movie, plus just a couple of subtle transitions

Depends on which Fantastic Four you are talking about.

I said this in my review, for those wondering about the 30% RT rating. This is as bad as Rise of the Silver Surfer or Green Lantern, it's just bad in a totally different way.

Those films are bad for terrible scripts, lack of vision, sub part acting, miscasting, and a number of other issues.

BvS is bad primarily because of the incompetence of the director and his inability to tell a coherent story.

If you're talking about that abomination of a F4 movie last year, yes this is better but that misses the point.

Snyder is as arrogant as Josh Trank, but he's not a megalomaniac like Trank is, and he's more talented than Trank. But they both share the same blind spot for their weaknesses and refuse to take any input from anyone else.

The simple fact of the matter is that Snyder does not understand these characters and has a blatant hostility toward anyone that would tell him differently. Originally, the "Jenny" character in MoS and BvS was supposed to be Jenny Olson, a gender swapping of Jimmy Olsen. This was later pulled in the late stages of MoS. Just for a FU to the fans, Snyder gives us Jimmy Olsen in this film [blackout] makes him a CIA agent and then promptly shoots him in the head [/blackout].

The movie needs a lot more than 2 scenes to fix it.

Don't go into the movie with your mind made up because of the reviews. Forget the reviews and form your own opinion. I don't understand how someone can say they know a film is bad going into it, doesn't make sense.

FF was crap, but didn't have the same level of hype going in.

It's true, you should form your own opinion. As for myself, I'd say it's underwhelming. There are good bits, Batman and WW come out looking good, but Superman has a really tough time - as in the performance is good but the story doesn't do a lot with him (that doesn't involve him getting his ass kicked).

The thing is, that isn't the film's biggest problem. Like I said it has lots of good bits, but doesn't seem to hang together as a cohesive whole.

Also, and I couldn't believe this,
Snyder of all people doesn't get the big action pieces right (the Batman v thugs bit is awesome, but Bats v Supes and Bats+Supes+ WW v Doomsday aren't that great, Zod v Supes was better, and the Battle of Smallville was waayyy better).

But see it for yourself dude. I'm going for a second helping, just to see if my initial disappointment was due to being overhyped.

I understand.
There is no telling what his reaction will be.
I was suggesting a positive approach because I am going to do that, too.
I hope to see the film tomorrow morning.

i would just say it is worth the ticket money.

No it would be impossible for a movie to be that bad without a crapload of red flags before release. Like on the FF forum last year there was a list of over 20 red flags compiled. And maybe it was because I had such low expectations but I really enjoyed it.

It is a shame that Snyder used enough material to make two great movies and crammed it into one film.

I think the reactions to this film speak for themselves. When I went to the F4 forums when that movie came out, it was unanimous: the movie was BAD. You'd have to scrape through the rubble to find someone who actually liked the film. Everyone was in agreement that it was a failure.

BvS, the fan and audience reaction is split down the middle. There is lots of love and lots of hate and lots both. Aka, this movie is the new Bladerunner.
