What's wrong with trying to tie it a little bit to the best, most successful, and fondly remembered adaptation of the character?
It's not a rehash of the show, and it's not like Superman Returns where it relies exclusively on the films before it and not on the source material (even though I loved it); it seems like it'll be a perfect blend of elements and characters from the comic (most of which haven't appeared in live action yet, like Blonsky) with the familiar tone of the classic show. That's the best way to go about a Hulk revamp; it's distancing itself from the first movie, while pleasing comic fans and bringing up fond memories of the show to appeal to older, casual fans.
