I used to hate Tony Scott. I thought he was an idiot who was way more concerned with making the screen flash and doing unjustified speed changes than making a good movie.

I remember when I saw True Romance...I really didn't like it, but at the time I blamed it one Quentin Tarantino's line reuse and racism.

Then I saw Domino (god that was bad...or was it?) and realized that Quentin Tarantino has a sense of humor and Tony Scott doesn't and that's probably why I hate True Romance.

So that's when I realized I hated Tony Scott.

But then I watched Man on Fire last night and I loved it.

Nah, Tony Scott is horrible. So is Ridley Scott - that fool fell off out of the game after Alien. You need to stop watching wack Denzel movies and stick to Marky Mark, bro.

I love Crimson Tide but thats it.

The rest is indeed all flash ... no bang.

But...what about Gladiator?

Ridley's made plenty of good-great films since Alien:

Gladiator
Black Hawk Down
Kingdom of Heaven (director's cut)
Thelma and Louise
Matchstick Men

and last but certainly not least

Tony Scott's more of a style than story guy. His visual style does give me seizures, although I did enjoy "Enemy of the State" and to a certain extent "Man on Fire".
BLADE RUNNER

That new Ridley movie looks like a pile of steamed ****.

Plus Russell Crowe was playing everybody's favorite American hero in a movie about Ancient Rome. And I was offended by the portrayal of Crassus

Did Ridley do Blade Runner? That inspired the rap line "I hit it from the back like Rutger Hauer" so I have to give it props.

But yeah, True Romance was pretty bad. And not the way Christian Slater is supposed to be bad

Oh I'm thinking of Spartacus. So replace Russell Crowe with Michael Douglas Superior and one of those famous Brando-ish guys was Crassus. His name was Oliver or the French version of that name.

I suppose the Latin was wrong in Spartacus too

The whole premise of Gladiator was stolen from Fall of the Roman Empire and Spartacus anyway

you think this is a game? You think THIS is a GAME!?

Speaking of Christian Slater, has anyone seen Hollow Man 2?

It's a sad day when a thread about Tony Scott is made yet his best film to date, Spy Game, hasn't been mentioned once. I had a blast watching Enemy of the State, wasn't too fond of Man on Fire though. But it's because of Spy Game that Tony Scott will always be a respectable director in my eyes, no matter what he does.

Spy Game and Enemy of the State are definitely his best. Man on Fire was okay, if a bit too long. Domino's the one I've been meaning to see.

And I'm surprised no one's mentioned Top Gun, which is one of those few movies I still have never seen, and probably never will.

There are some Tony Scott films I enjoy, especially Enemy of the State and Man on Fire. And I'm definitely looking forward to Deja Vu. But I HATED, ABSOLUTELY HATED Domino, and it's hard for me to HATE a movie (I'm sure there are movies I haven't seen that I'll probably hate, but that's why I don't see the pieces of s**t), but Domino was such an infuriating mess, I couldn't believe it. There was so much wrong with that movie, beginning with the casting of Keira Knightley. Slim Jim's are tougher than she was in that movie!

That was a good ass movie.

I saw part of Top Gun. It was lame.
