I'd like to know what you think about Tony Scott.

After the cheesy-as-hell pics such as Top Gun and the horrible Days of Thunder, he's made entertaining flicks such as Beverly Hills Cop 2, Crimson Tide, the thrilling Enemy of the State, but he's also directed two of my fav flicks ever: The Last Boyscout and True Romance (I don't think Quentin Tarantino would've done any better). Both masterpieces for me.

But what's up with the man right now? Man on Fire wasn't that bad, but Domino, Deja Vu? Granted, he's no hack, but he's picking sh***y scripts and I don't really like the look of his recent pics.

The man has so much potential... :csad:

He will always be the least successful Scott Brother

I thought DejaVu was pretty damn good

I need to see it again. I liked the cinematoraphy better than in Man of Fire and Domino, but I don't think it can compete with Scott's earlier flicks.

I love Man on Fire. Deja Vu was rubbish though. Haven't seen Domino.

He will always live in his brother's shadow.

Deja Vu was uber lame. As was Domino.

I like Tony Scott, but come on, he's no Ridley Scott.

Sure, but The Last Boyscout and True Romance are pure genius. That's why I say he's got lots of unexplored potential.

He does, I'll give you that. But, he needs to pick better projects, like his brother does (sans a few bad examples).

I tried watching Domino, that was a huge mistake. He needs to stop using that same visual style he used in Man on Fire, Domino(abusively so here) and Deja Vu. It was fine in Man On Fire, but it got tiring pretty quickly. Other then that, I agree he needs to pick better projects.

I don't know what's with him but I can tell you that I had a very hard time finishing watching Man on Fire.. what's with his editing style..? I could only stand Domino's first 3 minutes -:ikyn- and then turned the tv off

Man on Fire was a visual experiment that paid off well due to strong performances and a decent script but Domino failed due to crappy script (loser that wrote Donnie Darko) and even worse acting. And lack of Christopher Walken.

I like Man on Fire and Deja Vu. I have trouble getting into Domino however. Do think Ridley's better.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Tony Scott still has it.

We don't need to be so quick to get on his case just because his record is 100% spotless. I mean, there's NO successful director out there who hasn't made a couple of failures.

and yeah, Deja Vu was alright...At least for Denzel Washington's acting keeping you interested.

and Ridley's material choices tend to be so much different than Tony's that they're BARELY even comparable.

I did enjoy Enemy of the State now that I think about it.

i thought De-ja vu and domino were ok. never seen days of thunder or top gun. I loved True romance

Deja Vu had its moments... I mean how often do you see a car chase of a guy in the present chasing someone in the past? The ending kind of ruined it though...

Everyone should have died...

i think you should ask what happened to M. Night Shyamalan more than tony scott he started off with :

Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
Signs
Village(i admit i liked this)

then lady in the water sucked and happening i couldn't even watch it i felt bad for mark wahlberg since he played such a ***** role when he always shines as bad ass characters(Fear/Departed/Shooter/Max Payne)

I find it appalling that a thread is made about Tony Scott and not a single mention of his greatest film to date - Spy Game. :down
