Is Tony Scott an acquired taste?

Didn't he also direct Beverly Hills Cop 2....with Red Sonja? I like that a back in the day.

There's another good one! And I completely forgot about The Last Boyscout. I don't care what anyone says, that movie rocked !!

Dont really like Tony Scott. Last Boyscout and Crimson Tide, thats it.

I was fine with him till his movies became science experiaments with Denzel Washington. In my opinion, Spy Game is one of the most criminally underrated films of our generation.

btw, his BMW short film was damn good. My personal favourite of "the Hire" series.

did Bruckheimer produce BHC 2 as well? that's what interested me about Deja Vu

I used to hate Tony Scott. I thought he was an idiot who was way more concerned with making the screen flash and doing unjustified speed changes than making a good movie.
Yup thats about right:up:

I wouldn't mind Domino chugging my cock *shrug*

Okay, so I caught up with the conversation and I've come to a conclusion:

Tony Scott makes either Really Good Action Movies or Real Pieces of Trash...

I couldn't finish Domino if my life depended on it, but 'The Last Boy Scout' is a CLASSIC; Willis's most underrated movie.

'Spy Game' ROCKS on all four!

And Top Gun is cinema history no matter how you look at it; it's 80s Cheesecake Heaven...

'Crimson Tide' was a favorite at one time but I haven't seen it in a while so I don't know how well it holds up...

And I was disappointed with 'Enemy of the State' for his commercialesque approaches.

Tony "hit or miss" Scott.

I have "Take my breath way" in my head now.

Shouldn't have brought this up :down

Yeah, that's the taste you need to aquire to like Tony Scott.

Ever read this Tarantino rant about Top Gun?

Tarantino said:
What's a film about, what's it really about? What genre does it take?

[Duane: What, like the spine? Like one sentence?]

No, I don't, ****ing boy meets girl, I don't give a **** about that. **** boy meets girl, **** motorcycle movie. No, what is really being said? What's really being said, that's what you're talking about. 'Cause the whole idea, man, is subversion. You want subversion on a massive level. You know what one of the greatest ****ing scripts ever written in the history of Hollywood is? Top Gun.

[Duane: Oh, come on.]

Top Gun is ****ing great. What is Top Gun? You think it's a story about a bunch of fighter pilots. [Duane: It's about a bunch of guys waving their ***** around.] It is a story about a man's struggle with his own homosexuality. It is! That is what Top Gun is about, man.

You've got Maverick, all right? He's on the edge, man. He's right on the ****ing line, all right? And you've got Iceman, and all his crew. They're gay, they represent the gay man, all right? And they're saying, go, go the gay way, go the gay way. He could go both ways.

[Duane: What about Kelly McGillis?]

Kelly McGillis, she's heterosexuality. She's saying: no, no, no, no, no, no, go the normal way, play by the rules, go the normal way. They're saying no, go the gay way, be the gay way, go for the gay way, all right? That is what's going on throughout that whole movie...

He goes to her house, all right? It looks like they're going to have sex, you know, they're just kind of sitting back, he's takin' a shower and everything. They don't have sex. He gets on the motorcycle, drives away. She's like, "What the ****, what the **** is going on here?" Next scene, next scene you see her, she's in the elevator, she is dressed like a guy. She's got the cap on, she's got the aviator glasses, she's wearing the same jacket that the Iceman wears. She is, okay, this is how I gotta get this guy, this guy's going towards the gay way, I gotta bring him back, I gotta bring him back from the gay way, so I'm do that through subterfuge, I'm gonna dress like a man. All right? That is how she approaches it.

Okay, now let me just ask you--I'm gonna digress for two seconds here. I met this girl Amy here, she's like floating around here and everything. Now, she just got divorced, right?...

All right, but the REAL ending of the movie is when they fight the MIGs at the end, all right? Because he has passed over into the gay way. They are this gay fighting ****ing force, all right? And they're beating the Russians, the gays are beating the Russians. And it's over, and they ****ing land, and Iceman's been trying to get Maverick the entire time, and finally, he's got him, all right? And what is the last ****ing line that they have together? They're all hugging and kissing and happy with each other, and Ice comes up to Maverick, and he says, "Man, you can ride my tail, anytime!" And what does Maverick say? "You can ride mine!" Swordfight! Swordfight! ****in' A, man!

I liked the first two thirds or so of Domino. Once it stopped being about the charecters and started being about that "complex" screw up and how things went wrong, I hated it. For example, Mickey Rourke has exactly one line in the last like 40 minutes of the movie. Total mistake. It did have that extremely cool scene of blowing the guy's arm off with a shot gun while happy music played though. Haven't liked something like that so much since Mr. Blonde danced around with his beard trimmer.
But ultimately, yeah, crappy movie.

As for the rest of his films, they are hit or miss. I love BH Cop 2. Man on Fire is good. I dig True Romance. The others, not so much.

And as for Ridley.... I have one thing to say:

KINGDOM OF HEAVEN DC

If you haven't seen it, **** with the *****ing.

I tend to think Domino got good when Kiera Knightley took her shirt off and stopped being good when she put it back on.

Then you didn't see the Guy Richie one.

And I think you can say "cock" on here, but you can't pluralize it as in "a bunch of *****" or "***** a gun".

edit

See, right there. WTF? What's wrong with plural guys? can we say *****ucker?

edit

Ahhh that's it. what if we brake it up... ***********.

edit

yep that works.

The only Tony Scott films I didn't like were Days Of Thunder and Top Gun. I thought Domino was pretty cool, until Tom Waits appeared and the movie lost it's balls. The rest falls between between ok to f**king awsome, although i still haven't seen The Hunger (his first film) or his BMW short.

EDIT: Just saw Beat The Devil.....:wow: WOW!
