Isn't pornography just a form of legalized prostitution?

To make a long post short...

Porn is not prostitution and vice versa.

Because its a free country and people can waste their money on whatever frivolous things they'd like?

I don't need comic books. Or a trip to an amusement park. Or vibrating panties.

I don't think anyone ever claimed that porn was 'vital.' 90% of the things we buy aren't 'vital.'

If porn ain't your thing, don't buy porn. You don't have to understand why people like it for it to be relevant.

Also, how does replying with 'who cares' indicate that I, in fact, care about whether or not porn is legalized prostitution?

But you still haven't clarified to me the appeal of porn. I don't understand this need to have to see naked people in magazines or visit professional prostitutes when I can choose from much more safe, healthier options that don't cost a thing. I don't care about your Free Country crap. I'm looking into the psychological aspect of the frivolous sex trade. I still don't understand why people have to have porn and prostitution. Is an an ego driven thing?

Prove to me the appeal of cherry topping for ice cream. I dislike cherry flavor.

Its not useful. People could pick their own cherries and make topping. Why would they pay for it when they could grow a cherry tree?

You seem to think that you are the epitome of humanity and your tastes are the only logical tastes that exist. F*** that. People like things, people like sex, people like watching other people have sex. Some people like to see people having sex in crazy ways. Some people are lonely and don't have good imaginations.

Quit being an arrogant *****e and understand that people have diverse tastes and its really none of your business to care whether what they spend their money on is "alright" with the almighty Godzilla2000 or not.

It's a biological thing.

Visualization of sexy women turns me on.

Seeing a hot woman therefore also turns me on.

Imagining her do nasty things turns me on.

Watching her do nasty things is even better.

It's purely biological impulse.

Runt pretty much has it nailed... It's our instinct to like sex, it's our instinct to like watching other attractive people have sex- it's a combination of two of humanities biggest desires: Sex and beauty.

Plus, I've found that almost everyone going on a rant about not understanding the need for porn are in fact viewers of porn themselves. Don't kid yourself- we don't have a need for porn, but damnit, we like it. It's the easiest way to "have" sex without actually having it.

Sex is the basis of human life... Why do you think it's in our nature to desire it so much?

Whoooo! Runt and Godzilla2k going at it! *films the fight and then markets it on late night Comedy Central under the title "Hawt Komik Chix Mauling Each Other!!!!!!"*

Godzilla2000's a chick? O.o

Yeah! Okay, now rip each other's tops off and then smile at the camera before you continue thrashing each other. We've gotta do something that will make us stand out amongst all those "Girls Gone Wild" commercials!

Aaaaannnnd....action!

:ninja:

I sorta want Godzilla2000 to explain why she didn't realize why people get off on porn

Probably just doesn't do anything for her. I don't understand why some people like sprouts - but they DO :o

:)

That's fine that it's not for her, but the fact that she doesn't get why other people like it screams ignorance about sexuality and, like, its a well known fact that a lot of people are turned on visually.

She very clearly said that she doesn't need porn because she has a very active imagination. She's just saying that she doesn't identify with the need for porn and that's really about it. No need to get your t1tties in a twist.

LOL! Just reading back and I can't believe I compared porn to sprouts :o

REPENT! REPENT!

Generally men respond more to visual stimuli, and women to intellectual. This is why men buy pornography, and women buy romance novels.

That's very stereotypical.

I don't walk by a romance novel by chance and start getting dewdrops in my drawers, so to say.

I don't need porn, either, and don't make a habit of watching/taking advantage of it. But I don't confuse being less interested in something than many people with speculation on its relevancy at all to anyone.

Gotta agree with Runt on this one. I know a lot of women, my own wife included, who have an appreciation for porn.

Yep. You are able to conceptually understand why some people like it and others don't. G2K is just saying that she really can't even fathom why people like it at all. *shrug*

My point was just that its narrow minded to assume that anything a person can't understand personally is worthless. And that it doesn't need to be explained to that person in order to have relevance.

That's why I said "generally."

That's like saying "Don't be offended but I think you're ugly." That little clause on the beginning doesn't really make the rest of it alright.

People are selling the rights for their image and recordings to be sold, not for the actual sexual acts.
