Italian cruise ship disaster fail

Based on his Lawyer's comments, I think he has Lionel Hutz as his defender.

Back when The Simpsons was in its prime they could have made an incredible spoof of this.

Two years ago I took a cruise through that area...on the Costa Fortuna. :wow:

At least Port Authority guy saved the reputations of Italian men everywhere.
As did the guy who DID call the evacuation order and organize the entire effin' rescue. He wasn't even on the job - he was an off-duty captain for the Costa Concordia's sister ship.

So I suppose where they are ****ups, there also have to be guys who pick up the pieces.

Also, I love the internet: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...s-with-Get-back-on-board-for-s-sake-logo.html

Seeing a huge cruise ship on its side like is frightening. And that captain....wow, what fail.

Cruise Boss Slams Passenger Complaints

A Costa Cruises executive has accused passengers of "sensationalism" over the disaster which saw its ship capsize off the coast of Italy.

Assistant director Monica Bova said to hear passengers who were safe and sound on the docks say "no-one saved us" was outrageous.

"I have read, seen and heard so much nonsense from these survivors, who tended as usual to choose sensationalism rather than information," she said.

"I realise that there may be conflicting opinions and I do not have the expertise to determine guilt and causes of the tragedy, but in a real emergency anything can happen."

The letter written by Costa Cruises assistant director Monica Bova accusing passengers onboard the stricken Costa Concordia ship in Italy of

Monica Bova posted the letter on an Italian website

Ms Bova went on to call her colleagues the "true heroes", adding that without them, none of the guests would have been able to evacuate.

This is despite reports of initial confusion over the seriousness of the accident and some passengers jumping into the water to save themselves.

Her comments, made in a letter she posted on an Italian website, were met with angry reactions.

One reader wrote: "This letter is really useless, ridiculous and self-centred."

At least 11 people were killed and more than 20 are still missing after the 290m-long cruise liner ran aground near the island of Giglio off the Tuscan coast.

Passengers have described the evacuation process as chaotic and experts have criticised crew for not getting people to lifeboats quickly enough.

The ship's captain, Francesco Schettino, has been put under home arrest as he faces investigation on suspicion of manslaughter and abandoning the cruise liner while passengers were still onboard.

He has been accused of causing the accident by coming too close to the shore so he could "make a salute".

wow

Those survivors should sue the boss & company & captain & crew & then some

Costa Cruises should brace themselves from the onslaught of lawsuits to be filed against them, instead of slamming the survivors for their "sensationalism". And that cowardly and inept captain should be jailed for life for causing the death of so many people due to his incompetence.

I'M ON A BOAT
I'M ON A BOAT
Everybody look at me cause I'm failin' on a boat
JUMPED OFF THE BOAT
ON A LIFE BOAT
'Cuz I just ran aground on this motherf***in' boat

The boat ended up on it's freaking side, 20 people are still unaccounted for, the captain jumped ship before he knew everyone was safe, he set the ship on a course that was way too close to rocks, and people had to jump into the water and swim a football pitch or two to get to safety, and they accuse them of "sensationalism"? Seeing the pictures, I don't see how the reports could be sensationalist.

I guess it's not too hard to see where the cowardly captain learned his ways.
Lol, why would that song even be on the ship's playlist? I know I'd never want to hear that, even on a cruise where everything was going smoothly.

It's a beautiful soundtrack but there's no way I'd ever want to hear any of it on a cruise ship.

Schettino: "I wasn´t trying to flee. I just fell into the lifeboat".

That line really is up there with "he fell on the knife... seven times".

I know I'm resurrecting a long dead thread, but I thought I would post that they've successfully completed the 'parbuckling' of the Concordia. Took 19 hours to complete, I checked in on the live feed every now and then as I could during work yesterday, it still was several degrees away from vertical by the time I went to bed last night. News sites have been kind enough, however to create a timelapse video:

Congratulations to those involved on completing this stage and for accomplishing such an amazing feat of engineering (especially on such a huge ship!) without anything seriously going wrong (other than the ship not wanting to budge initially and it taking about 7 hours longer than planned)

Hoping that those working on this are successful in bringing closure to the families/friends of the 2 that were never found.

And hoping that the remainder of the salvage operation continues to go as planned and that the winter months don't do anything to set them back in removing the ship come next spring.

it will cost them around 600 millions. in the name of god.

It's as amazing as it is tragic you can zoom into so much detail on that ship from a satellite in space.
