Superman Returns It's a bird It's a plane It's a... belt buckle?!

Nothing personal guys...but is it really gonna matter?

That's the attitude that Superman purists can't stand, because to them, fans who say "it doesn't matter" "it's not a big deal "stop being picky" "it's their movie" sound (to purists) like they don't care enough about Superman. That they have no loyalty to Superman. Or that they don't mind settling for something less than they deserve or the character deserves.

Don't settle for less or accept mediocrity when you can have greatness.

that's exactly the artwork that came to my mind. they said the original artwork hung at the DC offices for decades.

if they actualy did the belt like that, I wouldn't have a problem

I would. It looks lame in my opinion. I wouldn't want an s on the belt in any form, but if they did have to have one I'd choose the SR one over that.

Supeman Comics are so confusing, they should just stop making them for a few years until they gather a real direction to take them in.

Man i just hate you quote (signature)! If i saw that guy that originaly posted it, i would beat him so badly with his damn oversized ego. How arrogant of you to flash that around...

Some people should be better educated, US is not the center of the world...

Actually I was just reciting the line from the new movie Invincible. :O

i hate the fact that they use the actual symbols of the emblem... that's what draws attention to it.

either way, a symbol or "S" is incredibly stupid on the belt.

it's stupid because it seres no mother f***ing purpose whatsoever.
That's true for a lot of comics though. Does Batman's old belt really need the capsules, before it was even explained as pouches? What about the X-Men and their X designs on their belts and then as patches on their shoulders? Does Superman really need his symbol on his cape? It's a design thing. Their purpose is to exist as someone's choice of design. It doesn't have to have a practical explanation. It's arbitrary. Some people try to explain it later or try to make stories that fit their designs but it often comes down to taste.

Meh, I prefer the oval buckle personally...just looks better I think.

Superman "purists". I love it. Being a purist, in my opinion, leads to stagnancy and a stranglehold on creativity. Great ideas can never be found if people are too afraid to try the lesser ideas.

I know. That's why I never truly understood the hatred for catwoman.

And it could have been badass in the film just like in the pic if they had use a better cape design. Attachment close to the neck is fine, but you need volume around the neck so as it's flowing backwards and looks wider around the shoulders because it is anchored further out with the addition of folds and pleats...not some limp faux-leather little red riding hood cape like they had in Superman Returns where the attachment by the neck made the cape look like Superman was wearing a leather triangle from the local fabric store. SR's suit design had some good ideas but overall it was uninspired.

Ya hopefully those slight alterations are made for the sequel. Its still possible. Theyll have to alter alot of the CG models anyways for the sequel since Brandon's proportions may be different.

It's a give or take. Throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. It happens all the time in the comics to varying degrees.

They'll be getting less quantity of $$$... at least mine.

Exactly. That's the problem with purists. The fact is that a film like Catwoman could very well lead to better things for the character but they didn't accept it, and some didn't even see the film. I saw it as an opportunity to explore a different interpretation on the character that might allow her to grow into something greater than what she was. Cino my azz. And in some ways the hulk movie by brokeback mountain director Ang lee brought a lot of fresh ideas to the hulk story that many purist viewed as too unnecessary or whatever. i don't remember. But as we all know nothing's going to change for the sequel. The studio was happy with their film and although Ang lee won't be back, the story established in the first will continue despite whatever it is purists want.

Some purists want faithful adaptations and nothing more, while i think others who are purists but not too purists, are more open-minded to changes that are actually good. i like those purists.

There are good changes that enhance the character as he evolves throughout his very long career. And conversly crap changes that purists, fans, all humans didn't like, like those red and blue supermen. It really depends on what's best for the character, i think, whether a change is considered a good change or not. And that can be subjective.

I don't really care about a design change for the outfit as long as I think it looks cool in the end. Tastes vary (especially on these boards). This much we know. My only preference is that the basic essence of Superman shines through in the end, to me anyway. This doesn't mean that I don't really love the classic design of Superman's outfit. Because I damn sure do.

Oh? I was the under the impression you weren't a current comicbook reader right now.

God why are they doing this. the suit sucks and the general audience has said so. And the worst of all is that Gucci belt. Gucci belts are for women, not for men. Superman is a man. God Mingen-whatever you suck. Now this crap is going into the comics. This just gets worse and worse. WB/DC, aren't you paying attention to the box office. People don't like it so keep it out of the comics and keep the oval belt.

these were the other designs for the belt buckle...

God I wish she would get her story straigt. In the interveiw with her a few months ago on SHH she said that Bryan came in and said "I want a small S" Now It was her pushing it on Bryan to go smaller. Also, Bryan said he at first wanted a big S when the suit first came out. Why dont they come out and say "Bryan wanted a big S, but the 3D made it where this is as big as we could go." Which is the truth. At least Tom Bronson said it when he said "we could not make it bigger and still have it be 3D without folding." Thank god Dayus wasn't costume designer or we would have had a shield the size of a stamp.
