"It's a prequel" is now the newest bit of backpedaling/damage control...

There was a whole load of **** coming from Trank on that panel. It was ridiculous. Also speaking of the sequel, why wasn't there a banner of it like there was for the rest of the Fox Marvel films?

What did he say that was so ridiculous?

There probably wasn't a banner for FF2 for the same reason there wasn't an X-FORCE or a GENERATION X banner. The movie isn't coming out within a certain timeframe, and isn't that far along in its development.

Prequel has gained an accepted meaning beyond "an actual prequel to a franchise".

It hasn't but

That he wanted to capture those first panels of Kirby's and Lees FF comic. He didn't. It was ridiculous.

New Mutants didn't have a logo either

Prequel, precursor, origin whatever you want to call it basically leads to the same thing we knew we were getting along time ago so there's not much point in making a big deal about it.

Anything to further the crusade against the bloke.

You can't be serious with this.

You've not seen multiple references in media to various franchise reboots as "prequels"?

I've only seen films refered to as sequels if they're, you know, ACTUALLY PREQUELS.

Definitions don't change just because a hero of yours misused a word.

No, but how people use certain words does change.

"Prequel" is one such word.

Don't know what to tell you. People misuse it.

Let's not forget that there will be a young Reed & Ben in this movie and those two will meet Johnny & Sue for the first time.

"Prequel" is another word for 'precede' or 'before' and both of those above happen before they become the Fantastic Four.

I think people are reading too much into it. He means the story starts with them before they're the F4 rather than with them already as the Team

I've been pretty disgusted at how easily Trank name drops Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Most of the time he has no idea what he's talking about, like saying the early Lee/Kirby stuff were monster horror comics. WTF???

Yeah, you said the definition changed. I called you out. You're now saying you didn't say the definition changed for realsies. :whatever:

Nope.

I said:

I said nothing about its actual dictionary definition changing.

Will it help you more if I say "culturally accepted meaning?"

It's like saying early X-Men comics were sci-fi horror because they featured "mutants."

It's just trying to distort reality so his unfaithful-looking movie looks better than it does.

Don't think that's what he said. I'm pretty sure he said that elements of horror were found in the first year of the Fantastic Four comics that he found interesting.

He never said that's all there was to them.

Shouldn't this have been posted in the Josh Trank thread?

Doesn't seem like a topic that needs a dedicated thread when there's a thread for discussing the Director and what he says already.

If not then why no thread for his "dramatic, character driven story" quote?

Nope.

No, because its still completely false and nothing more than an awkward attempt to defend something stupid that Trank said.

Prequel is just a buzzword.

This is clearly the early days of The Four, and they've been saying since the beginning that they will not resemble the Fantastic Four we know until later on.

How is this not obvious by this point?

It's not backpedaling.

It's pointing out the obvious.

Was Avengers pt 1 called Avengers the prequel?

It's not really a prequel until there's actually a sequel in the history books.

Besides Trank isn't talking you, he's tryng to appeal to us! The naysayers, the doubters. Fox clearly already has your money so step aside so we can watch their song and dance play out.

If these so called horror elements is all that he took from those early Kirby and Lee issues, oh my...

All this craziness over a word. Heck, I don't think "contemporary re-imagining" even got a thread and I would think that would have made people more upset than the film being called a prequel.
