It's Clobbering Time! The Ben Grimm/ Thing moments we want to see in the MCU

I’m watching The Bear now.

He’s a pretty amazing actor and I think he can definitely pull off Ben if he has the right script to work with.

Of all the various rumors, I really want this one to be true.

Came in here to post exactly this. I really liked in him Andor too. He can go from vulnerable to dangerous in a second and I really like that for Ben.

Not much of an update but a quick mention in this interview...

I would imagine this is for lightning and movement reference. Which is pretty brilliant.

That’s so cool! It almost has a harryhausen vibe!

I'm sure it'll be a combination of both...

the practical suit will be use on set for some shoots, an as a lighting/color reference for the surroundings, but, it'll be touched up with CG in post

and we'll probably still get some of the action scenes Mo-Cap'd (the practical suit doesn't look easy to move it) to really handle a fight scenes in

so hopefully they'll be able to match up the CG to the stand in (practical suit) seamlessly

the over all design is good... not sure how to feel of costume on him (maybe should have been short sleeves, or sleeveless) I doubt this is his(or any of their) final design and we'll see the outfits evolve

It's pitch-perfect. Love it.

Do you remember, 20ish years ago, when we got our first glimpse of the Chiklis suit?

It was so disappointing. I remember people saying he looked like a “burn victim”, and I was hoping it was not a full transformation, because he looked too human.

This one, finally, after four films, nails it.

I thought the 2000s look for the Thing was fine. Though it looked like glossy rubber more than rocks. Though it is gonna look worse when this more comic-accurate Thing in this new movie is official revealed. The superhero costumes they had though still look amazing to this day.

I do indeed remember the Dark Ages of this particular Hype Board 20 years ago. Those knock-down/ drag-out SHH thread battles.... :hurt: Oy, we've survived so much--hard to believe that much time has passed since then!

I think Chiklis' suit looked better in post-production with all the CGI layers applied, but I also believe they worked harder on it because of the uproar here, AICN, and elsewhere. 😉 Initially, it did look pinkish, and flesh-like. Burn unit-ish. Some of us blamed it on camera resolutions of the early 2000s. But...looking back in hindsight now? They initially missed the mark with the design. And you can tell they were listening to the fans' gripes because the "Thing Browgate" issue was resolved by time the sequel came around.

But this new look? It's perfection. I'm very, very happy with it. And I adore these new uniforms too, although we all know they'll don various versions of those uniforms in future appearances. The score is...well, fantastic. So at least on the aesthetics front, we're doing good so far.:like:

Yep. I’d say he was the star of the trailer (honestly they didn’t show a whole lot other than him).

And I think that’s appropriate.

I love the delivery during his exchange with H.E.R.B.I.E., and the shot of him running through the city is great.

I’m curious if the scenes with him running through the damaged NYC streets and scene of Sue in similar setting are related to Galactus/Silver Surfer or Moleman.

How great would it be if got something like the cover of FF #1?

Ben's voice doesn't seem quite deep or gruff enough for what I imagine as the Thing. It's a bit too high pitched and too normal sounding.

I had the same initial reaction - I think because of the cartoon and film versions I’ve seen - but I'm getting used to it. And it’s not like he has a high-pitched or whiny voice. It’s just not as exaggerated as other versions we’ve seen.

I have long thought that the team coming together to battle one of the Mole Man's pets would be a perfect way to start the reboot.

I'm rather agnostic about the voice. Ben has already lost everything in terms of his physique. Is there anything wrong with him retaining at least some semblance of his original humanity (namely, his eyes and voice)?

Chiklis did a great job with augmenting the voice (I recall before the first trailer came out people worried that his voice was too nasal and weak).

BUT there were points in the films that I found his voice a bit cartoonish and unnatural, and that was a distraction.

Also, I think his ability to hit subtle emotions with his voice was hampered by the affectation.

I think Ebon has a great voice, and once we get used to it, he’ll be able to give us a richer range of subtle emotions than we would have gotten if he did more of a Chiklis voice.
