It's summer, and my school is sending homework through the mail?!!!

I know people who live in California who have to read books in the summer. When they came to visit one summer, they were reading crap for school and I was thinking WTF?

people should watch more that "Jaywalking" segment on Leno's show

maybe then they'd understand the importance of reading and stopped complaining

Wow- they didn't do that ****e back in my day- ahh my lazy summers of youth in the early 80's playing hide and go see with my friends, going to Caldors to buy He-man action figures, Go-bots and Transformers. saturdays spent watching Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, The Three Stooges, and Creature Double Feature by day, the Duke boys and The Hulk by night. and then it was out side again to play a little night game of hide and go seek with my friends- and spying on nieghbors having sex. aahh youth!

What age is a sophomore in the US edumucation system?
Unless its any younger than 11, he should be ashamed he aint read Lord of The flies already.

If you don't want to read it, get the spark notes and do the worksheet.

However, you may be missing reading some quality books that you otherwise wouldn't have read.

This guy is like 15. And it's a grand total of maybe 6 hours tops of reading and worksheets in 2 months of vacation.

Hey! I never read lord of the flies in school. She sat us down for the movie once but it bored everyone so much she turned it off.:woot:

Quit complaining about school and homework and enjoy your life, once you graduate its over my friend! ITS OVER! Then life slaps you in you gut and you have to work and get up at 6am!

in real life, work doesn't stop for the summer

PLAS, I'll explain why this statement is beyond stupid IMO. These kids are not in the real world, they are kids. Why do you want to rob them of the little freedom they have left as kids, because they'll be stuck in a 9 to 5 for the rest of their lives, chained to a desk. Let them enjoy the summers off they have now, before they have to face the non stop reality of "real life".

He'd be 16 or 17.

Which also begs the quetion, Webhead, do you have a summer job?

That's an outrage! The world is ending!
My school sent a package with a book and worksheet for some Summer Reading crap. They want it done by the time school starts in August.
?!!
I read enough. I hate it when they think that NO ONE reads anymore when alot of people do.

I read comics, novels, stuff online (like the Hype), game guides, etc.

I hate being forced to read stuff. I know it'll happen in school, and I'll deal with it...but during the summer? Hell no!

:cmad::down

You should do a report on the online stuff and game guides you read over the summer.

Haha I love that he listed 'Game Guides' as reading material.

We actually made out really good Junior year: Picture of Dorian Gray, The Crystal Cave, and a piece of British literature of your choice.

first of all, being a kid does not mean you don't have to be aware of the reality of your surroundings

I don't want to rob anyone from anything

you know what's one of the beauties of reading? you get to exercise and develop critical thinking, expand your general culture and gives you the chance to become whatever it is you want to be

you don't have to be chained to a 9 to 5 job, if that's what your expectations give you, then so be it, I've had the office gig and lasted only a couple of years

you see, I decided to dedicate my life to the things I like doing, and while I'm no millionaire, at least I make enough to pay for my house and to provide to my family

and all this because of reading, even if it's beyond stupid, after all, it's your opinion

but the fact that this kid is complaining about things he shouldn't is undeniable

I'm taking this AP Government/ Civics class at my school called We the People. Its not an ordinary class, you actually go to competitions and are questioned about politics. I had to tryout to get into it but the summer homework is ridiculous. I have to find 30 news articles, write which Constitutional amendments relate to that topic, and then at the end put it all together in a pretty scrapbook. Then I have to read two textbooks, and in one of them answer all of the chapter questions. ALSO, I have to meet with the other students in the class every week of the summer to practice. This wouldn't be so bad if everyone wasn't an arrogant, elitist, rich bastard. Once I told them that I was 17 and didn't own a car, they looked at me like I had 20 heads. I regret joining this class. :(

drop the class :o

15 is what freshman year? its just a recommended to read, i got that bull as well, however i read a couple and ENJOYED it so much, i started reading regularly, even in the summer, i know shocker.

and game guides, the hype, comic books, should not count as intellectual reading. for instance, you spelled a lot as one word. maybe this whole reading thing will work out in your favor.

I once heard parents complained that children had too much free time. This is why some schools give out homework over the vacation.

Wait, most people never had any homework during there summer break? That actually surprises me. We always had it at my middle/highschool. I guess I just figured everyone had it.

drop the class :o

I should but its a very "prestigious" class and my gpa isn't very good so this could be my saving grace. Also, everyone would hate me because they'd have to find a replacement... although I hate them so...

Christ, I thought having to read an Envi-sci textbook for Bio AP was bad.
