J.J. Abrams' Super 8

I never even paid attention the lensflare thing in Trek until my fellow nerds on Hype pointed it out. Me thinks thats just nit-picking but no surprise coming from the internet crowd.

As for the JJ Abrams hype, geeks over hype every geek filmmaker not named Sam Raimi. Lost only had one great season in my opinion and Alias only had 2, Mission Impossible 3 was decent but forgettable and Star Trek was mega flawed (because of that messy script) but still is good because of the Abrams direction and the actors chemistry/performances.

He has the potential to became a great genre director but it hasn't happen yet, maybe Super 8 will be the movie that he just 100% knocks out of the park on all levels?
its nitpicking to complain or to mention that every shot had lens flares in ST?:dry:

and the only reason i talk about is because when Bay uses LF everyone is complaining but with JJ they did not.

Who are these people complaining about Bay using Lens Flares? I'd like to know because I want to know why they aren't complaining about the shaky out of focus fight scenes, the s**tty acting and the overall crumminess of 99% of his output.

I think what differentiates Abrams from Bay is that Abrams uses his style as the window through which to tell a story and showcase the substance in his movies. More or less, Bay's style is his substance. I still very much enjoy what both directors bring to the cinemas, though.

Whatever the thing is, it's wrecking everything in its path.

That's all I needed to see. :D

Hhhmmm, I was actually a little dissapointed in the teaser, i expected to learn a bit more about what the plot will be, glad they are keeping the alien/creature under wraps though.

What lens flare?

At :07, :08, :18, :23, :25.

Judging from the footage, it's not going to be used as much as it was in ST, but I still find it to be really distracting, redundant glamor, and especially out of place in a film that seems to be a throwback to '70s nostalgic sci-fi.

So I'm at fault for paying attention to the frame?

Quit complaining. You will watch this and you will enjoy it.

I don't know why people are complaining about it so much about it; it's very hyperbolic.

I don't have ADD. I can focus without being distracted.

"Wow, this movie is great so far............Lens flare?"

Awesome superbowl tv spot. I'm looking foward to seeing this movie. The thing that is drawing me to see this movie so bad is the same as cloverfield. I want to see the monster, if it's alien/creature/or maybe even man-made. Anyway it looks good and I hope we see alittle bit more of the creature in this monster movie. While I rank Cloverfield as my favorite monster movie I still wish we could of seen more of the beast.

Quit complaining. You will watch this and you will enjoy it.

this crap about the lens flares is dumb imo...

abrams literally had lens flares in EVERY shot of star trek ( i personally absolutely hated it) and no one complained... lol
people are just finding any reason to hate on bay lol... now his visuals?(the only thing worth making him a decent director lol)

and if anything bay (or spielberg) "invented" the lens flare approach

I was trying to not come off like a nitpicky nuisance, but I guess not. Anyway, just because the project is JJ's doesn't mean it will automatically be good. I enjoyed the trailer, don't get me wrong, but c'mon, that logic is wrong.

I don't know why people are complaining about it so much about it; it's very hyperbolic.

Again, I don't want to be the guy who types in all caps or comes off like that, but I personally think JJ's use of it really hinders the quality of MI3 and ST, not to mention that its present in a lot of shots. There's been strong purpose of its use in the past -- the few, subtle color spectrums in Eyes Wide Shut -- but here its really lame and tacky.

I didn't notice the lens flares in ST until everyone started complaining about them. Maybe because I was so into the movie.

And Dark, Chas was being sarcastic.

I was being sarcastic Dark! I still love you. I got worried about this being too kid friendly per JJ and my bumhole got pillaged. So beware if you complain about lens flare for you too will be pillaged.

We should invite him to the Spider-Man boards. Now THAT'S sarcasm. :awesome:

All that intelligent discussion from our good neighbors.

Like mentioned earlier, I hope the creature is a good guy, but looks as scary as Cloverfield or something. Would be a nice contrast.

I was thinking that earlier myself. A misunderstood monster that's ugly and looks like a threat.

Didnt had the chance to see this until now and wow! This looks like a perfect late 70's early 80's magical scifi spielberg throwback. And i love the secrecy about the creature, it makes it even more exciting when we get the big reveal.

I want it to be an evil sonofa.

Jaybraham used Lens Flare!

It's super effective!

JJ eats the sun and ****s out lens flares... I dont see the problem here?
