Eh it's Devin, I have never cared for him at all. Even though sometimes are opinions may be on the same page one in a great while, I just don't care for him as a critic.

Devin has been against this film more or less from the outset. He opposes it based on the fact that it relies on a nostalgic vibe, despite the fact of course that he runs a website that is mostly based on very nostalgia tinged topics.

The biggest reason I want to see this is because I want to see a nostalgic trip to that Amblin aesthetic. So on that front, I doubt this is going disappoint.

Can't wait!

I hope this movie isn't good because of nostalgia. It should be great on its own and stand on its own as a great story. Sure this film has Close Encounters/ET vibes, but if this movie is great, we won't even have nostalgia. We'll truly see it for the film that it is itself.

If it's good because of the film itself as well as nolstalgia, that's a good thing though.

Nostalgia within nostalgia. We have to go deeper!

This looks like Close Encounters/ET like Tarantino's movies look like Leone's westerns and kung fu movies. Just because a movie is calling back to a past genre doesn't mean it's only banking on the audience's nostalgia for them to enjoy it.

Of course not, I'm only saying that nostalgia shouldn't be the reason this movie could be great. We shouldn't have to rely on that. Sure it will remind us of ET and Close Encounters, as what we've seen so far does, but the quality of the film should stand on its own and be its own thing. It's own quality.

You know, I was very curious to see this when we first had rumblings of it, and my anticipation grew after the teaser. For some reason though, after the newer trailers and TV spots, my interest has been dwindling. The more I see of this the more I actually don't care for it, not to say its a "nostalgia" factor, but something isn't sitting right with me.

Plus because of Super 8, Green Lantern will not be playing in IMAX in NYC, so I have a slight beef with the film now. Guess I'll wait to read some reviews before seeing this.

so...what can we say at this point about the "it" that has escaped? Definitely alien? and telekentic? Is it building a ship to escape? is it even an alien or is it a robot? it seems to be electrical and magnetic...electromagnetism is pretty powerful. Maybe it is an alien and its building a transmission device to call its alien buddies for a ride home. but its desperate and appears to be on a killing spree because it has suffered at the hands of the government and knows the evil that humans do until it meets a few kids? Cuz its scared. I don't know...its gotta be sensitive to light and the flame thrower seems to suggest its easy to flush out with heat.

Alright guy, this is SORTA, not really related to Super 8 but a few weeks ago Bad Robot and Channel One made a contest for High School Students to turn in a three min. long film showcasing your abilities as a filmmaker. I'd like to everyones input on the short film. Here it is, The Bench.
The story of a sons letter to his father.

Good job. Like the story. The acting and editing was a bit meh.

Michael F'n Giacchino!? Yes!

It's obvious that since Speilberg already made Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull plus Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and ET, they will be some sort of grey aliens and a UFO.

Still curious to the aspects of emotion JJ most likely used for the movie. If this is truly is the E.T. of the new generation(despite the monster literally killing people), this could be very interesting.

Also with the main kid's story arc, as his mother probably died years before. Sort of like Elliot's dad in E.T. except that is mentioned once. Maybe this kid's past will be incorporated much more story wise.

Finally, since we know the monster is ruthless, will the kid end up helping it or there more to the situation? Can't wait!

For some intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence, language, and some drug use.

The whole twist is that the monster is just a blunt the kid is smoking while watching a back to back viewings of E.T. and Close Encounters. He freaks out and wants to make a movie about it. He grows up to be J.J. Abrams.

Michael's score on the main site is amazing, but I'm not surprised he is a great composer. Just one more thing to be excited about for this film. It's been a while since I've gone into a film knowing almost nothing, not even the main characters names, and I hope to keep it that way.

Is it biased if I were to say Giacchino is becoming the John Williams of this generation?(no mention of Zimmer because he's been around since Lion King)

Giacchino has created some amazing themes for being in the game only a few years! Up and Star Trek's scores are some of the best I've heard in recent years.

And if the site music is a sign, Super 8 could have one of the best scores of 2011.
