J.J. Abrams' Super 8

Actually, in the manga, there's hundreds of "Clovers" across the world. So who knows.

Hundreds? Lame :(

Who says it has to be a prequel though? These kids could just be the ones that stumbled across the mother Clover when she came around. I mean just because the trailer's set in a certain era doesn't necessarily mean it has to be all set in that era.

But most reports that are coming in are saying its a prequel. Granted, sources can be wrong, but if it is, how does that work within the context of the first movie's story? It doesn't really fit. I mean, any interaction with Clover (or his kind) prior to the first movie is kinda contradictory considering how the government was entirely unprepared.

I suppose if it is a prequel, it could be in a small town and was "covered up." But a giant monster in a small town is a bit underwhelming. That still raises the question again, why was the military so unprepared if the monster has been encountered before?

Or this could be his Area 51 project...

This is the first I'm hearing of this. What is his "Area 51," project?

I heard J.J Abrams was doing an alien movie like Cloverfield called Area 51. Oh wells, more hope it's Cloverfield-related!

With all due respect...the bulk of the movie-going public has pretty much forgotten Cloverfield...I dont think that a prequel is really such a big deal that they need to shroud it in secrecy. Many people were underwhelmed by Cloverfield because they were hoping for some big name project (I heard guesses such as Cthulhu, Thundercats, Voltron etc...) so to follow it up with a PREQUEL...which obviously the world survives...is not something that will generate mega-bucks.

Yeah, well, it still did well in the box office for it's budget, so I'm sure the studios care enough to at least give it a shot.

And did someone really think the Cloverfield teasers were for something Thundercats-related

Tron Bonne, people thought it was everything from Thundercats to LOST's Smoke Monster. :hehe:

I do remember a bunch of crazy theories being popped up (Lost, Godzilla, Voltron, Satan, etc.), but I never heard the Thundercats one. Wow, that's just weird, heh

Did you hear the one where people thought it was the island itself coming to life?

I thought it might've been Godzilla at first, but that was a valid theory at the time I think.

Haha, yeah, I actually remember reading something like that once.

That was my first thought, too. I could have seen it as related to Lost as well, since I remember a rumor that they were planning to end the series with a feature film and potentially was the beginning of the hype for that.

Haha, I remember the people that thought it was a Power Rangers movie. :awesome:

I think I'm going to have to rewatch Cloverfield to remember how "awesome" it was...

Im super stoked for this, i love Cloverfield so yeah im totally ready for a prequel which makes sense to a certain extent if the main characters company slusho is a secret govt company. That means maybe the govt. is just in the beginning stages of experimenting. Or it could be the main characters as kids? Just guessing.

I'd be semi disappointed in a sequel cause I kinda want to see the continuation of the story but I hope they make a sequel sooner or later.

Well, we're getting a new Godzilla movie in 2012 so that's always a plus! :D

Personally, I think the success of Cloverfield pushed the reboot ahead.

I get a kick out of super-secret stuff like this.

My friend just sent me a message of Facebook saying he might be able to see the trailer a day early. Sooooo jealous.
