Watched the Japanese trailer and didnt really get into it. Maybe its me getting older or maybe it is hollywood but action movies these days all feel the same.

Even though "This is 40" is rated R, I feel it has a chance to outperform "Jack Reacher". Based on the book and the talent involved in this, it'll be a great movie. But the advertising really makes it look run-of-the-mill.

Saw the movie last night. I had a lot of fun.

Now granted I haven't read the books so I can't say like I'm a hardcore Lee Child/Jack Reacher fan, but I like what they did.

McQuarrie I think is a very underrated director. I love the way he shot the movie. He builds to the action very well. He does like slow burns. I liked his first movie The Way of the Gun, and he does some good stuff here.

The only thing is, the timing of the movie might be bad because of some of the subject matter, but honestly the way he shot the opening was really creepy and unsettling.

Jai Courtney from Spartacus is also awesome in this movie. I'm expecting great things from him hopefully.

Basically this movie is a modern day rendition of Dirty Harry or Bullitt. Jack Reacher is cut from a similar cloth as Harry Callahan, Bullitt, John Wayne as Brannigan, etc.

The villains in the movie are kind of cheesy and stereotypical, but Cruise is clearly having a good time and with this I hope McQuarrie does get the directing job for MI:5.

This movie being an adaptation of a book is in a different position from other book adaptations in that i think pretty much it's success depends on people who haven't read the book going out to see it.

From what i've heard from fans of the book they are really upset with cruise being cast and that doesn't seem to have let up much.
